Harry Potter: Reunion with the Enemy

Chapter 39 Gossip Reporters and Serious News

Two days ago, at the Daily Prophet headquarters building.

Dennis Creevey was working overtime to prepare the content of tomorrow's front-page headlines. It was already late at night, and the photo of Harry Potter smiling in the advance print of the newspaper still made his heart twitch violently.

This was the idol that his brother Colin Creevey admired most during his lifetime.

When Dennis was helping to sort out his belongings, he found a lot of Harry Potter photos left in his camera. Although some of them seemed to be hastily pressed when passing by, Dennis could feel his brother's extremely excited mood at the time.

Dennis would never forget the way his brother's eyes sparkled whenever he mentioned the Savior.

"That's probably what a great person looks like, Dennis! We are so lucky to be in the same school with him!"

It was incredible that two brothers from a Muggle family could both come to Hogwarts to study magic. However, in the summer after the Wizarding War, when Dennis returned to his home in the Muggle world alone, he found it difficult to explain to his parents why his brother would never come back.

People may always remember how the boy who survived the disaster fought wits and courage with the big devil during his seven years and stood up at the critical moment, but perhaps no one knows that there was also an unknown boy from a Muggle family who also wanted to be a hero and passed away quietly in this war.

Who else would remember Colin Creevey? The boy who was petrified by the eyes of the basilisk in his second year? The Gryffindor who dragged his brother to join the DA? The defender of Hogwarts who left this world forever before he reached adulthood?

Perhaps ordinary people are just a small and insignificant footnote in the hero's magnificent life.

Perhaps not everyone will become the "chosen one" and have an extraordinary life.

But Dennis Creevey chose to continue holding up the camera that originally belonged to his brother. Greatness and insignificance are not contradictory.

Dennis Creevey currently works for both the Daily Prophet in the wizarding world and the Daily Observer, the most authoritative newspaper among Muggles.

Dennis Creevey's dual role as a journalist was confirmed following employment talks held jointly by Hogwarts and the Ministry of Magic.

Because of his familiarity and understanding of Muggle society, Dennis was mainly responsible for news content that intersected with the Muggle world in the Daily Prophet, and was mainly responsible for political news in the Daily Observer.

Dennis couldn't compare which side of the job was more frustrating because there were unpleasant elements on both sides.

Muggle political news requires Dennis to keep a close eye on the Prime Minister, MPs and various policy changes, and sometimes he is even forced to cover up scandals for these high-level officials due to various factors.

On the Daily Prophet side, his current direct supervisor is Rita Skeeter.

On this ordinary overtime night, Dennis objected to the current content arrangement as usual.

"Ms. Skeeter, I think the way these news reports are written is inappropriate," Dennis rushed directly to Rita Skeeter's office, slammed the preprinted newspaper on the desk, and said angrily, "This headline "The Savior is in Crisis Again, Black Dragon Attacks the Muggle Prime Minister's Building" is obviously misleading people to think that this incident was directly or indirectly caused by Harry. But there is no indication that this incident is related to him."

Rita adjusted her jeweled glasses and motioned for Dennis to continue with her distant smirk.

Dennis turned the newspaper over. The news on the second page was "The Savior's former captain at school won this honor! England qualified for the Quidditch final." "Merlin's pants, why did the news report about the Quidditch final have to include Harry's name? He is not a player on the England team now, and his old captain Wood has his own name. Quidditch is never a one-man battle."

"And more." Dennis turned to the last page of the newspaper - this was a new section added after Rita Skeeter became the top executive of the Daily Prophet - the gossip and tidbits section.

Dennis and his colleagues secretly called this section "the special section of groundless speculation, exaggeration and fabrication."

"Your assumptions about Harry's sexuality are deeply offensive, especially when you put him together with that blond kid from Slytherin. I don't know what you were thinking, Ms. Skeeter, but I think you're pushing the limits of the Daily Prophet."

"Are you done?" Rita Skeeter asked impatiently, touching the ring on her finger coldly. "Before you give me any advice, I want you to recall who came and increased the sales of the Daily Prophet by 70%, saving this poor newspaper from bankruptcy - it was me!"

"All this is gained by exaggerating and taking things out of context. You know whether you have damaged the reputation of others or not." Dennis was a little angry. He thought of the biographies of Dumbledore, Snape, Harry and Dumbledore's Army written by Rita Skeeter before, "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore", "Armando Dippet: Sea Water or Idiot?", "Dumbledore's Army: The Dark Side of the Veteran", "Snape: Villain or Saint?" These bad books are simply a small amount of truth with a huge amount of exaggeration.

"Don't think these readers are so noble. They like my biography of Dumbledore very much. The sales have proved everything." Rita took a sip of water from the bone china cup in a pretentious manner. Her shorthand pen was placed neatly on the table. "People don't care about a big black dragon flying around on a street and breathing fire everywhere - unless the dragon is spraying their own house."

"I can't believe you take pride in producing such irresponsible information every day," Dennis said coldly.

"I've always thought you were a talented kid, so I kept you at the Daily Prophet to train you, but it seems you still don't understand my good intentions." Rita Skeeter responded in an even colder tone, "Without me, this newspaper with declining sales will eventually go bankrupt, and you self-proclaimed noble and upright little reporters will simply pack up and leave."

Dennis was shaking with rage, but he couldn't deny the fact that the Daily Prophet's sales had been declining before Rita Skeeter's reforms.

But he could not deny that the quality and authority of the newspaper had been greatly reduced after Rita Skeeter's reforms.

"What's the point of being a singing lark in a place where no one cares?" Rita Skeeter stood up, took her shorthand pen, and seemed to be ready to leave. "The newspaper will be printed as it is. Harry Potter has not appeared in public for a long time. Everyone will like these news about him, and three consecutive ones. Tomorrow's newspaper sales may reach a new high, and everyone's bonus will be settled."

Dennis opened his mouth as if to continue to refute, but was blocked by Rita Skeeter's next words.

"If you had published the Muggle Prime Minister scandal you learned about at the Lakeside Club in the Muggle newspaper you work for, you might not have been an ordinary reporter, but a page manager or editor-in-chief. The Daily Observer needs such explosive exclusive news. Once you become editor-in-chief, you can really decide what news you want to publish."

“Before you turn the world into what you want it to be, you need to think clearly about, first, how to survive? Second, how to get others to follow in your footsteps?”

Rita walked out of the office. "It's not a good idea to always follow others. You have to understand who you are first. Of course, I feel sorry for your brother Colin Creevey. I once met him in Hogwarts. Black and white only exist in the world of children. Chaos is the norm. The unity of knowledge and action is the privilege of a few people."

Rita Skeeter didn't look back. The sound of her high heels tapping the ground gradually faded away, echoing in the corridor for a long time.
