Harry Potter: Reunion with the Enemy

Chapter 18 In the Spotlight

Social animals may always look for something to compete with in order to let others know their position. This item can be a bigger house, a more luxurious car, or a valuable bag.

"Money should be spent where others can see it." The Forsyths have always adhered to this philosophy.

For most Muggle parents who consider themselves elites, their children are the most important part of their external evaluation system. This is not only reflected in the fact that they must get their children the best schools and the most expensive tutors, but also that their children must sit on the highest throne in their group and become the focus of all spotlights.

"I feel like I'm a high-end decoration of my parents, hanging outside to show off to other parents at any time." Alex filled out the drama registration form out of boredom. "When I joined the school orchestra before, they insisted on me playing the lead violin. This time, they insisted on me playing the lead role. It's like if I run a step slower, I'll be abandoned by the whole world."

"I thought you didn't care." Harry suddenly realized that Alex's seemingly lazy appearance did not seem to be consistent with his inner thoughts.

"Don't care about what? I can't do anything now if I leave my parents. It will take a long, long time for me to be able to stand on my own." Alex quickly filled out the form and continued, "So now I can only hold the script in my hand and act until I can leave."

"You will." Draco, who had been silent on the side, suddenly said this.

"Tutoring, socializing, competitions, and endless pressure, as if my life is over if I can't get into the Ivy League." Alex lowered his head and scratched his palm. He usually looked like he didn't care about anything, but suddenly he showed a confused side.

"At least you don't have to suddenly find out one day that you may have to fight a dark lord to the death, or be told one day that you live only to die one day." Harry wanted to say something, but remembered that he could not reveal his identity as a wizard, so he quickly covered it up vaguely.

"What dark devil? Is this also part of the play?" Alex curled his lips.

"It's a metaphor," Draco explained.

"We cannot decide where we were born, what path our family or elders planned for us, and what concepts we initially accepted," Draco said softly. "It is possible that you have been walking on a path that you do not approve of for a long time, and it may take you more than ten years or more to wake up."

"Human cubs grow more slowly than other animals. While lions, tigers, deer and other animals are able to hunt and live independently at a very young age, humans cannot. Infants, teenagers, young adults and even adults are still as vulnerable."

“But I also asked myself the question, what can a child do?”

Draco lowered his eyes as if to hide his emotions.

"What can be done?" Alex looked up.

“He was able to grow up.”

"Since you have been thinking and questioning everything you are in for a long time, I believe you will figure it out earlier than I do. It is never too late to figure it out and start again." Draco rubbed Alex's head gently.

Harry, who had been listening nearby, seemed to have found a flaw in Draco's seemingly calm face, and suddenly reached out and grabbed Draco's shoulder.

"Hi..." Harry felt like he wanted to say something, but he didn't know where to start.

Draco turned his head in surprise and looked at Harry. The distance was too close, and he seemed to feel Harry's cold glasses touching his cheek. Draco raised the corner of his mouth and patted Harry's hand.

"So, let's help our great wine taster, Alex, figure out how to perform the current script well."

Alex didn't understand for a moment why his two tutors suddenly looked at each other as if they were sharing a secret.

However, Alex vaguely felt that Mr. Malfoy, who was kind enough to help him with his homework every day, was right.

Everything he was acting out at this moment was a preparation for the great escape in the future. One day, he would finally be able to choose not to do the test paper that was stuffed into his hands, or not to act out the script that was stuffed into his hands.

He is also waiting to grow up, whether he becomes a lion, a tiger, a deer, or even a nameless sparrow.

------------------

A week before Alex's audition, he decided on his own to use part of his math tutoring time to practice the play.

Thinking that Matthew would definitely ask about the final arrangements of the play open to parents, Alex gritted his teeth and memorized his lines.

"So what story does Hamlet tell?" Draco flipped through the script with some curiosity.

"The story of a Danish prince seeking revenge for his father," Alex summarized briefly.

"At the end of the story, the prince finally killed all the bad guys and won a great victory?" Draco raised his eyebrows.

"No, they both died in the end." Alex shook his finger in denial.

"And now you are competing for the role of the prince who will die together in the end?" Draco asked.

"Yes, otherwise I might have to play the king's ghost or something, and Dad would be angry." Alex held up the script and made faces, and it was obvious that he wanted to show a rich expression.

"Ghost? How do you act out ghosts? Are there ghosts or something similar here?" Draco imagined inviting Nearly Headless Nick to guest-star in a Muggle drama.

"Just walk around. After all, we can't float on the ground. This is a tragic character." Alex pretended to stiffen his hands.

"But most of the main characters in this play died. The difference is that they were poisoned, died in a duel, were framed, drowned or something else..." Harry played Hamlet's lover Ophelia and recited lines with Alex.

Draco obviously lost his only interest and stuffed the script back into Alex's hands. "Forget it."

"This is a great work of literature. I can't believe you haven't read it in its entirety." Alex could see that Draco was not interested, but at this moment he still wanted to defend Shakespeare.

Harry thought to himself, as a child who grew up in a wizarding family, Draco's favorite literary masterpiece would probably be The Tales of Beedle the Bard... A bunch of stories that Ron mentioned when searching for the Hallows popped up, such as The Fountain of Luck, The Legend of the Three Brothers, Babbitty the Rabbit and Whatever...

"I prefer to read stories about green-eyed boys fighting big villains." Draco made a face, as if he could see through Harry's thoughts.
