One Piece: Under the Throne

Chapter 4: The Fading Smile

A day after the tragedy, the atmosphere in the village remains depressing.

In Leo's house, the house was filled with the smell of herbs. Although Rick was wrapped in bandages, he looked in good spirits.

In order to nourish her husband's body, Susanna hunted a lot of meat. At this time, Rick was struggling with the food in front of him.

"Eat slowly, don't choke."

"Hey, Susanna, your cooking skills are still so great. After eating the barbecue you made, I feel full of energy."

Rick used this method to comfort his family. At the same time, he also knew that ordinary people in this era did not have much time to lick their wounds. He had to recover his body as soon as possible to deal with what might happen next.

Ten days passed like this, and just as everyone worried, the members of the fishing team were attacked by pirates before their injuries had healed.

After dealing with the last pirate, Susanna looked around blankly, leaning on her weapon. The once beautiful beach had already been ruined, with the bodies of villagers and pirates mixed together and scattered everywhere.

Those who were still standing at this time had no time to heal their wounds. They also had to clean up the battlefield and separate the bodies of their companions from those of the pirates. The bodies of their companions were taken back to the village for burial, while the bodies of the pirates were thrown directly into the sea. This would at least make a contribution to the fisheries around the island.

Susanna took a deep breath and said angrily, "Are these pirates crazy? This is their nth attack recently. When did the Sphinx become so attractive?"

A soldier from the hunting team nearby consoled him: "Captain, I have interrogated a pirate and they seem to be here looking for treasure."

"Treasure? We grew up here since we were little, and this is the first time we heard that there is a treasure here. If I know who is talking nonsense, I will make him regret being born into this world."

After venting her emotions for a while, Susannah continued to direct the post-war work. As the main force in the battle, the female hunters had to recover their strength as soon as possible.

Susanna has informed the Whitebeard Pirates of the battle situation at Sphinx. As long as they hold on for five days, they will be safe after Newgate returns.

At night, the female hunters hid behind the rocks to rest. The branches were crackling and the faint fire was swaying in the darkness, as if it would go out at any time.

Leo also wanted to share the pressure with his mother, so he quietly found Susanna: "Mother, maybe we can stop the pirates on the sea."

Susanna was stunned by her son's words, but then she smiled with relief: "Fighting is a matter for adults, children should not interfere."

"Mother, I think there is no need to fight the pirates to death on the beach. We should extend the battle line a little bit."

Looking at her son who was acting like a little adult, Susanna's mood improved a little, so she smiled encouragingly at Leo and motioned for him to continue.

"We can show the enemy our weakness first, and then retreat back to the jungle after a brief blockade on the beach. The pirates will surely be dispersed when they pass through the jungle, and the hunting team can then defeat the pirates one by one."

"What if the pirates didn't split up their team?"

"That's better. We can set the jungle on fire and burn the pirates to death in the woods."

Susanna looked at Leo with a dangerous look in her eyes: "Are you playing with fire in the forest again?"

Leo was confused. How could he not get over this? He was only 3 years old at that time and still an ignorant child. Leo quickly explained: "Mother, I am not kidding you. The jungle is the home of the female hunters. As long as the pirates are led into the jungle, whether it is assassination or arson, it will make the battle easier. As long as the people are still alive, what does it matter if the jungle on the island is burned down?"

Susanna suddenly sighed. They had already thought of Leo's method. Retreating into the jungle was also the last resort, because once the jungle was burned down, the Sphinx would have no way to retreat.

The battle became increasingly difficult in the following days. The people of Sphinx Island worked together and used their lives to repel the pirates' attacks time and time again, finally dragging the time to the fifth day.

Looking at the rising sun, Susanna felt her eyes a little moist. Then, looking at the few companions left around her, Susanna's eyes became sharp again. As long as they could hold on for another day, everyone would be safe.

I don't know if the pirates received the news that the Whitebeard Pirates were coming back for help, but on the last day, more than one pirate group attacked Sphinx Island. There was even a big pirate with a bounty of over 100 million. Maybe they thought this was the last chance to snatch John's treasure.

"Hahahaha, guys, kill everyone on the island. John's treasure belongs to our Buffalo Pirates."

After successfully repelling several waves of attacks from small pirate groups, Sphinx finally faced a challenge. The enemy was the infamous Buffalo Pirates.

Captain George of the Buffalo Pirates is a pirate with a bounty of 1 million. His men are also very powerful. The Sphinx militia couldn't hold on after just one encounter at the beginning of the battle. After leaving behind dozens of corpses, only a few people escaped into the jungle.

George's men were a group of muscular men wearing iron helmets with bull horns. Looking at his men with ferocious faces, George showed a cruel smile and said, "What Whitebeard? He thought he was a big shot after following Rocks for a few years. Today, I, Buffalo George, will destroy his territory with my own hands."

"Young men, the treasure is deep in the jungle. Kill everyone and then we will go find the treasure."

Roar! The muscular men roared to the sky, and the roar sounded like a group of wild beasts.

The Buffalo Pirates quickly entered the jungle, where they finally encountered fierce resistance. The Sphinx Huntresses, led by Susanna, were like ghosts in the jungle. They caught the pirates off guard with their rich hunting experience and familiarity with the terrain.

However, as the battle progressed, the Buffalo Pirates also found an effective way to deal with the situation. They cut down the trees along the way, leaving the huntress with less and less space to move around, and finally forced the huntress to fight them head-on.

Looking at the village not far behind, Susanna knew that they had to stop the enemy here, so she clenched her weapons and led the few female hunters to rush towards the pirates with roars.

The battle became intense for a while. Although the female hunters were powerful individually, they were too few in number and many of them were soon surrounded and killed.

Just when Susanna was about to fight to the death, a roar came from the depths of the jungle. It turned out that Rick and the men of the fishing team came to support them. Rick was like a humanoid monster when he charged, crushing the pirates and killing his way out. Finally, he rescued Susanna and the other two female hunters.

"Susanna, please go back to the village and send the old man and the child away."

Wasn't there any sad drama of you leaving and I staying? Susanna just left with one sentence: "Hold on, wait for me to come back." Then she turned and ran towards the village.

The village seemed to be deserted. Rick had arranged for the elderly and children to wait at the other end of the village before he set out. When Susanna found the group, they had already split into two teams. To avoid being chased by the pirates, the elderly decided to use themselves as bait to mislead the pirates.

Susanna brought the children to the other side of the island. There was a high cliff here, and the pirates could not land here. Below the cliff was a group of reefs, and more than a dozen small boats had been hidden there in advance.

After sending the children on board, Susanna looked at her son and said seriously, "Leo, I'll give you this record pointer. You can return after half a day at sea. Mom believes you can do it."

"I……"

Susanna interrupted Leo before he could finish his words. She rubbed Leo's head and said softly, "Don't worry about us. Mom will definitely drive the pirates away. You've always wanted to go out to sea, so just go out for some fun this time."

Without waiting for Leo to answer, Susanna pushed all the boats into the sea. Watching the fishing boats being carried away by the waves, a trace of reluctance flashed across Susanna's eyes, and then turned into determination.

Just as Susanna was about to return to the battlefield, something strange happened. A pirate ship suddenly appeared from the other side of the cliff, and it was the boat that was transporting the children.

Boom! The cannons on the pirate ship began to roar, and the shells fell not far from the boat. The waves almost overturned the fishing boat. The cry of a child came faintly from a distance, and Susanna's heart was tightened again.

Damn it! Why are there pirates here? Susanna didn't have time to think about it. She immediately grabbed a vine and climbed up the cliff.

……

The pirates who appeared on the side of the island cliff were from another group. They were grinning and aiming their cannons at the small boat.

"Oh! That's great. There are a few children on that ship. Should we capture them and make them slaves?"

"They are just a few kids, not worth much, why not let everyone have some fun?"

So the pirates continued to fire at the boat, and they deliberately missed the target to scare the children on the boat, and then watched the children scream and laughed heartily. Perhaps because he was tired of playing, one of the pirates aimed at a girl on the boat and threw the lasso at her.

"Be careful!" Leo had noticed the pirate's movements long ago. He suddenly pushed the girl away, but he was caught in her place. The rope instantly tightened, Leo was lifted into the air, and then fell heavily onto the deck.

The fall knocked him unconscious, and before Leo could recover, he was kicked in the stomach again.

"Asshole, you ruined my good thing." A pirate came over cursing and reached out to grab Leo's hair.

Suddenly the pirate felt the sky darken, and then his head was stepped on by someone and fell into the deck. "You bastards, go to hell!"

Seeing her son curled up on the deck, Susanna's eyes instantly turned red. She took a stance to protect Leo behind her, staring at the group of pirates in front of her.

At this time, a pirate dressed as a samurai walked out of the crowd and said, "You are pretty good. Do you want to join us? The guy you just killed was a cadre. You can take his place."

Susanna drew out the dagger from her waist and pointed it at the warrior. The meaning was self-evident. The warrior shook his head and said, "I'm sorry, it's a wrong choice. I have no choice but to kill you." Then he drew out the sword from his waist.

After several rounds, the exhausted Susanna was obviously no match for the warrior, and she was chopped several times. She knew she would die here today, but she had to fight for her son's life even if she died. So Susanna changed her strategy and began to focus on defense, resisting the attacks while retreating towards Leo.

The Sphinx Huntress remained focused even in danger, and finally after a hard fight with the warrior, she had a turning point. Susanna used the recoil from the dagger to quickly retreat to the side of the ship, then grabbed her son and threw him out.

Susanna's action made the samurai's face darken. Even in this situation, she was able to save people successfully. The samurai sword flashed with cold light, and with incredible speed, it slashed Susanna's shoulder.

On the other hand, Susannah was fine, and even had a smile on her face. The samurai was furious and wanted to draw his sword to continue slashing, but he found that the samurai sword was stuck by Susannah's shoulder blade.

Leo opened his eyes wide as he fell, and the last image that remained in his sight was his mother's gentle smile that was gradually fading away.
