Be in low spirits

Chapter 30: Investigating the case is the way to go

"That's possible, but why didn't you think of it?" Li Li felt it was a bit unfair. All he remembered was their married life, while she only remembered the marriage certificate.

"I thought about it. It's the marriage certificate and your identity as a member of the Criminal Police Brigade." She inexplicably wanted to defend herself.

"What else?" Li Li really wanted to hear what she remembered.

"And...and some things about my dad and my school and work, which are unimportant." Kong Zhixi didn't want to mention those unpleasant things, and there was no need to tell the criminal police captain.

"Xixi, why do you think we are here?" He suddenly became serious.

"Wasn't it sent in by Fu Yan?" She was also a little confused.

"Didn't you doubt his identity? Why did he send us in? Why do we have no memory of what happened before?" His series of questions also made Kong Zhixi think.

After a long while, Li Li seemed to have made up his mind and solemnly stated the fact he had been thinking about for a long time: "The only explanation is that we are all dead."

"Huh?" She opened her mouth, not quite sure what she heard.

"Think about it, if we are not dead, why don't we have any friends, colleagues, or relatives in this world?"

"But, aren't there Lao Sui and Fu Yan? Isn't there a wooden man sitting in the bureau writing materials? And they are not ignorant of the cases we solved." Kong Zhixi thought that if it was really as he said, then why would she sit here for no reason?

"Fu Yan is our only connection with the outside world. Lao Sui only appears when there is a corpse. After the case is over, they have nothing to do with us anymore." Li Li explained patiently. He also wanted to confirm whether the facts were as he thought.

"Do you mean they are dead too? Or are they NPCs in the afterlife?" She still felt that this result was too absurd.

"I don't know, but after you and I came in, our memories of the past disappeared." Li thought of many possibilities, but only this one was more reasonable.

"Impossible, how could it be? If I really died like this, wouldn't that old man get what he wanted?" She couldn't think of any reason to deny this possibility, and could only think of the old father who suppressed her everywhere.

"What old man?"

"Kong Jianping, my father."

"what?"

"Nothing." It turns out that just mentioning death can make people feel lost.

"If it's really as you said, do we have to investigate cases like this endlessly?" Thinking that such days would never end, she didn't even feel like sleeping.

"We can think about what caused our memory to be triggered. Perhaps with all our memories we can get the answer." Li Li felt that everything should have a result.

"You came earlier than me. Does that mean you died earlier than me? Could it be that my husband died, I inherited your estate, and I have a stable and decent job, and God couldn't stand it?" Kong Zhixi also proposed a scenario along the same lines.

"...Can't you think positively?" Li Li hoped that she could be more serious.

"These are just your guesses. In fact, I think investigating cases is what we should do. Maybe we can get out after investigating enough cases?" Kong Zhixi began to doubt whether this was reality or a game.

"Then get up early tomorrow and investigate who hurt you." Although Li Li said this, his body did not move at all.

"Then come out!" Kong Zhixi still couldn't believe the fact that she was married.

"Oh~ You really have no heart." Li Li stood up lazily and left.

Kong Zhixi let out a long sigh, and watched him walk into the room and close the door before she returned to her own cubicle with peace of mind and patted the mark where he had just sat on the bed.

After returning to the bureau, she carefully recalled what happened on the day of the kidnapping. Combined with the information sent by the handover person, she knew that Dr. Liu was dead, which meant there was someone else behind the scenes.

"Who would want to kill me?" She muttered to herself as she flipped through the documents.

"According to the surveillance video, the murderer disappeared after jumping into the river from the bridge, and his body was not found," Li Li added.

"Before he died, Dr. Liu told me that they all knew a gangster boss. I originally thought that the person who kidnapped me was that gangster boss, but if it was true, he wouldn't have had to escape so miserably." She said to herself thoughtfully.

"Are the results of Dr. Liu's autopsy out?" she asked Li Li.

"There's nothing useful. He was killed with one knife and the murder weapon has not been found." Li Li was also looking through the information.

"Oh, it seems a little abnormal that there has been no crime for such a long time."

"Maybe the situation is getting tense. The whole city is under martial law."

She didn't listen and just looked through the information.

“Can I go and see the scene?”

"Let's go." Li Li said as he picked up the car keys and reached out to pull her, but Kong Zhixi walked straight away.

"You have a really bad temper." Li Li curled his lips.

After arriving at the scene, Kong Zhixi looked around the clinic inside and out, and stared at the person drawn on the ground for a long time. Logically, Dr. Liu was stabbed in the clinic, he should have been able to save himself, so how did he die?

"What is the family background of this Doctor Liu?"

"It's in the information." Li Li now wanted to cure this girl's stubborn temper.

Kong Zhixi raised her eyes and gave him a killing look, and he immediately became timid.

"He is a rich kid. His elder brother is the heir to the family business. His family is very relaxed about their second son. Their only requirement is that he has his own business. So they paid for him to set up this clinic. After checking the financial documents, it has been basically losing money over the years. But his elder brother seems to be a brother-con and loves his younger brother very much."

"Strange, why do these guys have brothers and sisters?" Her hoarse voice was still not healed.

"This should also be one of the conditions for the murderer to choose his target."

"Can't the people who are handing over the case do it face to face? It seems like there's no progress on the case!" She started complaining again.

"They did the on-site investigation, body cleanup, autopsy, family background check, address book check, and interpersonal relationship check. Those thick files were all done by them. Don't complain." He started to make excuses for others again.

"And then? There wasn't a single suspect." She became even angrier when she talked about this.

"You've seen the murderer, but you still don't know who it is?" Li Li felt that Kong Zhixi was just being stubborn.

"I... I'm almost dying, why should I care who the murderer is?" Her brows were almost twisted together.

"Well, this is your duty." Li Li said with confidence.

She realized that Old Li was taking revenge on her and was using the case to tease her.

"Let's go." She was in no mood to watch the scene.

When he got in the car, he deliberately used a lot of force to close the door. Li Li thought he was going back to the bureau and said, "Are you going back to the bureau now? Did you miss something in the file?"

"Unfinished building! Unfinished building!" She was completely enraged by him at this moment and her voice became louder.

Li Li was also shocked by her temper. She did not dare to delay and stepped on the accelerator and drove straight to the unfinished building where she was kidnapped.

When she arrived at the unfinished building, Kong Zhixi was still a little frightened. She touched the wound on her neck and did not dare to step in.

Li Li was unconcerned. He squatted in front of the stool and talked about the information recorded in the file: "The murderer wore a mask the whole time. According to the footprints at the scene, he was between 1 and 84 meters tall and weighed about 1 pounds. With your small physique, there is no need to do anything. You will definitely die."

Kong Zhixi only felt the words "definitely dead" echoing in her ears. She was a little out of breath, so she turned her back and looked at the sky on the balcony, thinking that this might help her feel better.

Seeing that she didn't reply for a long time, Li Li remembered that she was the one tied up here and she was also one of the victims. He forgot that she would have psychological trauma. He walked to her and began to blame himself.

"I'm sorry, I forgot that your injury hasn't healed yet. I shouldn't have brought you here. How about... let's go back, or you can go to the car and rest for a while?" He stroked her back, trying his best to relieve her pain.

"Go back." She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and said coldly.
