Rocot: Reborn

Chapter 269

The darkness dissipated, and Roccod suddenly opened his eyes, and what he saw was a cold metal wall. He struggled to sit up, and felt as if all the bones in his body were falling apart. The severe pain made him gasp.

"Awake?" A hoarse voice sounded in the room. Locot looked in the direction of the voice and saw a hunched old man sitting in the shadow of the corner, his cloudy eyes flashing with an inexplicable light.

"Who are you?" Rocot asked warily. He looked around and found himself in a small room with nothing but a metal bed and a table.

"You can call me... 'Scavenger'." The old man said slowly. He stood up from the shadows and walked in front of Roccod. "I know who you are, Roccod, or... the former 'King of the Night'."

Rokod's pupils shrank slightly. He subconsciously tried to mobilize the power in his body, but found that his body was empty. The shadow power that once controlled the world was now gone without even a trace.

"Don't bother yourself," the scavenger seemed to see through his thoughts and sneered, "You are nothing but a waste now, an abandoned experimental subject."

"Experimental subject?" Rocot frowned. "What do you know?"

The scavenger did not answer his question directly. Instead, he walked to the table, picked up a metal box, and opened it. Inside was a potion that was glowing with a faint blue light.

"Do you know what this is?" The scavenger shook the potion in his hand, with a hint of madness in his eyes. "This is 'Nirvana', a miracle drug that can give you a new life."

Roccod stared at the potion with a hint of doubt in his eyes. Of course he knew Nirvana. It was the world's most advanced genetic modification potion in the future. It was said to be able to give humans unimaginable power, but it also came with great risks. Once it failed, they would turn into irrational monsters.

"Why are you helping me?" Rocot asked in a deep voice. He didn't believe that this old man of unknown origin would be so kind.

"Help you?" The scavenger laughed as if he had heard a funny joke. "I just need you to do me a small favor. In return, I can help you regain your strength, and even... become stronger than before!"

Rocot didn't say anything. He knew there was no free lunch in the world and that this scavenger must have some ulterior motive, but he had no choice now. He needed strength and revenge!

"Tell me, what do you want me to do?" Rocot took a deep breath and asked in a deep voice.

The scavenger's smile gradually faded. He walked up to Rocot and said in a low voice, "I want you to... help me kill someone!"

Roccod's heart shuddered, and he felt a chill running from the soles of his feet straight up to his head. Who was this scavenger? And who was he trying to kill?

"Who is he?" Roccod asked, suppressing his uneasiness.

The scavenger smiled coldly and said word by word: "His name is... 'Creator'!"

"Creator"?

Roccod repeated the name as if he was chewing a piece of strange-tasting candy, strange and yet with a hint of dangerous sweetness. He had once been powerful in the shadow world and had seen countless ruthless characters, but the name "Creator" seemed to have popped out of a myth or legend he had never heard of, exuding a sense of evil.

"That's an interesting name," Roccod pulled the corner of his mouth and showed a cold smile, "But why should I help you kill him? Just with that bottle of broken stuff in your hand that I don't know if it's effective or not?"

He pretended to be dismissive, but secretly observed the scavenger's reaction. The temptation of the Nirvana potion was too great for him. Now he was like a tiger with its teeth pulled out, full of ambition but unable to use it. He wanted revenge and wanted to take back everything that belonged to him, so strength was his indispensable weapon.

The scavenger seemed to have expected him to say that. He was not angry, but just chuckled. The sound was like two rusty pieces of iron rubbing together, harsh and creepy.

"Boy, don't think I don't know what you're thinking," he stared at Rocot with his cloudy eyes, "You want power, you want revenge, but the 'Creator' is your biggest obstacle! He is like a mountain, pressing down on you and me, making us unable to turn over forever!"

He slammed the table, and the metal surface made a dull sound. "How do you think you died? Who turned you from the high and mighty King of the Night into the half-human, half-ghost you are now?"

Roccod's heart was shaken. A fear he had never experienced before was like a poisonous snake that wrapped around his heart, making it almost impossible for him to breathe. He had always believed that his death was due to the betrayal of his men, but now it seemed that things were not that simple...

"The 'Creator' controls everything," the scavenger lowered his voice, as if he was afraid of being overheard. "He has the most advanced technology in the world and can even control people's life and death at will. You and I are just chess pieces on his chessboard!"

He walked up to Roccod and pressed the metal box containing the blue potion into his hand. "Nirvana was created by the Creator. Only with it can you have the power to fight against it!"

"You want me to kill the Creator, and then what?" Rocot clenched the box in his hand, with a barely perceptible tremor in his tone, "What do you want from him?"

The scavenger did not answer his question directly. He just walked to the corner of the room and dug out a palm-sized metal plate from a pile of scrap metal. "Do you know what this is?"

Roccod shook his head. He had never seen anything so strange. The surface of the metal plate was covered with dense lines, which looked like some ancient writing or some mysterious symbols.

"This is the source of the Creator's power," the scavenger pointed at the metal plate, his eyes flashing with greed, "As long as we get it, we can control the whole world!"

Roccod looked at the metal plate and suddenly had a bad feeling in his heart. He felt that this scavenger was not telling the truth...
