Chapter 47 Invisibility Cloak
Chapter 47 Invisibility Cloak
Harry and Ron sent Ryan and Hermione on the Hogwarts Express. They made an appointment to continue looking for the person Hagrid said during this holiday, and asked Harry's Hedwig to deliver a message as soon as there was news.
After Ryan and Hermione left, Ron and Harry had too much fun to think about Flamel. The dormitories were entirely at their disposal, and the common room was much less crowded than usual, allowing them to occupy some of the more comfortable armchairs by the fire.
Now, they were sitting there, eating whatever they could with a spit, bread, pancakes, mushrooms, and devising plans for Malfoy's expulsion, even though none of these plans could be put into practice. But it’s always nice to talk.
Ron also began teaching Harry how to play wizard chess.Wizard chess is exactly the same as Muggle chess, but its chess pieces are all alive, so it feels more like commanding an army to fight.Ron's chess set was very old and tattered.Everything Ron owned originally belonged to someone else in his family, and this chess set belonged to his grandfather. However, the fact that the chess pieces are older does not hinder it at all.Ron knew them very well and had no trouble getting them to do his bidding.
Harry was using the set of chess pieces that Seamus Finnigan left him, and they didn't trust him at all.His level is not very high yet, and the chess pieces are pointing at him here and there, which makes people's brains dizzy: "Don't send me there, haven't you seen his horse? Send him, he will sacrifice." It doesn’t matter.”
On Christmas Eve, when Harry went to bed, he only expected to have a big meal and play happily the next day. He did not expect to receive gifts at all. However, when he woke up the next morning, the first thing he saw was a small pile of packages at the foot of his bed.
"Merry Christmas," Ron said sleepily as Harry groped his way out of bed and pulled on his dressing gown.
"I wish you happiness too." Harry said, "Come and take a look, I have received a few gifts."
"And what cabbages did you expect?" said Ron, turning to his own pile of packages, which was much larger than Harry's.
Harry picked up the top paper packet. It was wrapped in thick brown paper, with "Hagrid to Harry" written in flying colors on it.Inside was a crudely made flute, obviously made by Hagrid himself.Harry blew a bit, and the sound was a bit like an owl's hoot.
The second small paper packet contained a note.
"We received your letter, enclosing a Christmas present for you. Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia." Taped to the note was a fifty pence coin.
"Pretty friendly," Harry said.
Ron was fascinated by the coin.
"That's weird," he said. "Is this Muggle money in this shape?"
"You keep it," Harry said, and couldn't help laughing when he saw Ron's ecstatic look. "Hagrid gave it to me. My aunt and uncle gave it to me. So who gave these?"
"I think I know who this is from," said Ron, blushing slightly and pointing to a large, bulging paper package. "It's my mum. I said to her, you didn't think you were going to get a gift, oh shit," he groaned, "and she knitted you one of those Weasley sweaters."
Harry opened the paper package and saw a thick bright green hand-knitted sweater and a large box of homemade fudge.
"She knits us a sweater every year," Ron said, opening his own paper bag. "Mine is always dark purple."
"She's so nice," said Harry, tasting a piece of fudge and finding it very sweet.
The next gift, which was also sweet, was a large box of horseshoe-shaped chocolates from Hermione.
Under Hermione's chocolate, there is a notebook. It can be seen that it was bought not long ago, but it is already full of writing. There is also a note posted on the book, "Harry, Merry Christmas, this is the potions note you need most. Ryan"
Harry couldn't wait to open the notebook. In the notebook, there were neatly written many details about the making of potions. For Harry, this gift really couldn't be more suitable.
There is one last paper packet left.Harry picked it up and felt it. It was light. He opened the paper.
Something like a liquid, silver-grey, slid down to the floor, clumped together and gleamed.Ron gasped.
"I've heard of this," he said in a low voice, tossing aside the box of strange-flavored beans Hermione had given him. "If I think right this thing is very rare and very valuable."
"What is it?" Harry picked up the shiny silver fabric from the floor. It feels strange in the hand, as if it is woven with water.
"It's an invisibility cloak." Ron said, with a look of awe on his face, "I can definitely put it on and try it."
Harry draped the Invisibility Cloak over his shoulders, and Ron let out a shout.
"Sure enough, look down," Ron pointed at Harry and shouted loudly.
Harry looked down at his feet. Strangely enough, they had disappeared. He rushed to the mirror in three steps. That's right, in the mirror, only his head was hanging in the air, and his body was completely invisible. He pulled the invisibility cloak over his head, and he was completely invisible in the mirror.
"There was a note," Ron said suddenly. "A note fell out of it."
Harry took off his robes and grabbed the letter. On it, written in a slender, circle-within-a-circle font that he had never seen before, were the following lines: Your father left this thing to me before he died.It should be returned to you now.Use it well.I sincerely wish you a Merry Christmas.
No signature.Harry stared at the note in a daze, while Ron marveled at the invisibility cloak. "If I can get such a thing, I don't need anything," he said, "I don't need anything. What's the matter with you?"
"Nothing," said Harry. He found this matter very strange.Who had sent the invisibility cloak? Did it really belong to his father before? Before he could say anything else or think anything more, the door to the dormitory was suddenly pushed open, and Fred and George Weasley rushed in.
Harry quickly hid the invisibility cloak. He doesn't want others to know yet.
"Merry Christmas" George and Fred said in unison, their tacit understanding truly worthy of twins.
"Hey look, Harry got a Weasley sweater too" Fred and George were both wearing blue sweaters, one had a big, yellow "f" on it and the other had a big , yellow "g".
"Harry's is better than both of ours," Fred said, holding up Harry's sweater. "Obviously, Mum is more considerate to people who are not her own."
"Why don't you put yours on, Ron" George asked. "Come on, put it on, this sweater is nice and warm."
"I don't like dark purple," Ron complained half-seriously, pulling the sweater over his head.
"You don't have letters on your sweater," George commented. "She probably thinks you won't forget your name. We're not stupid either, but she often calls us Jorred and Fudge."
"What's the noise about here?" Percy Weasley poked his head through the crack in the door with a dissatisfied look on his face.Apparently he was opening his Christmas presents, too. He had a bulging sweater draped over his arm, and Fred grabbed it.
"P means prefect. Put it on, Percy, come on, we're all wearing it, even Harry got one." Fred said, pointing to the letters on the sweater.
"I don't want to wear it," he said vaguely, but the twins didn't care and just put the sweater on Percy's head, knocking his glasses off. "And you're not allowed to sit with the prefects today," said George. "Christmas is a time for family reunions." They carried Percy out of the room. His arms were bound by the sweater and he couldn't move.
Harry had never been to a Christmas party like this in his life.A hundred plump roast turkeys, mountains of roasted meats and boiled potatoes, platters of delicious little sausages, bowls of buttered peas, plates of thick gravy and lingonberry jam Every few steps you take along the dining table, there are piles of wizard packets and firecrackers waiting for you.
These wonderful colorful firecrackers are not like the shabby Muggle firecrackers that the Dursleys usually buy, which only contain some small plastic toys and very flimsy paper hats.Harry and Fred smoked a firecracker together. Instead of a dull bang, it exploded like a cannon, engulfing them both in a puff of blue smoke as it exploded from the inside. Take out a rear admiral's hat and some lively white mice.
At the guest of honor, Dumbledore changed his pointed wizard hat into a bonnet decorated with flowers. Professor Flitwick had just told him a joke, and he laughed happily.
Turkey is followed by flaming Christmas pudding.Percy's piece of pudding was wrapped in a crescent-shaped piece of silver that nearly chipped his tooth.Harry watched Hagrid ask for drink after glass, his face getting redder and redder, and finally he kissed Professor McGonagall on the cheek. To Harry's surprise, Professor McGonagall giggled and blushed, her tall black top hat tilted to one side.
Harry left the table with a bunch of stuff from the crackers in his arms, including a bag of non-exploding glitter balloons, a small device that mimicked a sarcoma, and his own set of wizard's chess pieces. The white mice were gone, and Harry had a very uncomfortable feeling. He suspected that they had all ended up as Mrs. Norris's Christmas dinner.
Harry and the Weasley brothers had a snowball fight on the playground and had fun all afternoon. They had a great time. Then, out of the cold, soaked and panting, they returned to the common room fire.Harry tried out his new chess pieces and lost miserably to Ron.Harry murmured in his mind that if Percy hadn't kept giving random ideas, he wouldn't have lost so miserably.
After a tea of turkey sandwiches, pancakes, jam pudding and Christmas cake, everyone felt full and a little sleepy. They didn't want to do anything else before bed but watch Percy chase Fred and George around Gryffindor Castle as the twins snatched Percy's prefect badge.
This was the happiest Christmas in Harry's life. However, throughout the day, there was always one thing lingering in his mind.It wasn't until he went to bed that he had time to think about it: the cloak, and the person who had given it to him.
