Rebirth in a Book: The Road to Breakthrough
Chapter 19: Lush meets wolves
Ever since learning martial arts from Grandpa Nan, Tiezhu’s favorite thing to do is to go hunting in the mountains with Uncle Dazhuang.
Yu Congcong was not in a good mood. She couldn't walk before she met Gou Wa.
Gou Wa followed his uncle. He didn't dare to get too close to him and only dared to walk in the forest beside the road. His uncle didn't know what he was doing. He just walked slowly and was not in a hurry. But it was hard for Gou Wa. There were not so many small animals on the road, but there were snakes, insects and ants everywhere in the forest. He had to be extra careful.
Speaking of snakes, Yu Congcong was frightened to tears by a rat snake. Yu Congcong suddenly felt something crawling at her feet. She looked down and saw a rat snake coiled there, with its head raised and its tongue sticking out, staring at her with cold eyes. Yu Congcong's heart was instantly grasped by an invisible big hand. She opened her eyes wide in fear and her mouth opened wide, but she couldn't make a sound.
Her legs seemed to be nailed to the ground, unable to move an inch. The rat snake seemed to sense her fear, twisting its body even more triumphantly and moving closer to her.
Finally, Yu Congcong's fear reached its peak, and she cried out "Wow", the sound was sharp and piercing, echoing in the mountains and forests. Her body was shaking, tears rolled down like beads with broken strings, her face was full of fear and helplessness.
Tiezhu turned around and grabbed the snake by the waist, and quickly comforted it: "Congcong, don't be afraid, this snake is not poisonous. We can still have a good meal!" Yu Congcong was so scared that she shook her head and dared not look: "Take it away, take it away." Tiezhu had no choice but to let Huzi take it. Seeing this, Huzi pulled out a few long-leaf grasses from the side of the road, picked it up with his hands, and tied the snake around his waist. As he walked, the snake's body swayed, and Yu Congcong was so scared that he didn't dare to look in that direction. "Tiezhu, are there many snakes on this mountain?" Yu Congcong asked with a trembling voice.
"It's not bad. There are more snakes in the west near the underground river, and they are all poisonous. Most of the snakes in the East Mountain and the North Mountain are not poisonous." Tiezhu replied. Yu Congcong was terrified. Even if the snakes were not poisonous, they were still snakes. They were cold-blooded animals! She kept screaming in her heart.
Gou Wa also encountered a snake, a poisonous one, which was dozing on a branch. Gou Wa took a detour very carefully, but he deviated from the route and lost his uncle. Gou Wa was so anxious that he had to go back. In this way, he passed by Yu Congcong and the others without noticing them.
Yu Congcong and his friends kept walking along the road, but they still didn't see Gou Wa. They started to get nervous, so they sped up. They ran, but still didn't see him. Hu Zi was so anxious that he shouted, and his voice echoed in the forest, but he didn't hear Gou Wa's response. Yu Congcong found traces of people scratching in the jungle by the roadside, "Tie Zhu, do you think this is a trace of someone walking? Let's follow the traces to find it." Tie Zhu looked and said, "Okay, let's follow this trace." Tie Zhu walked in front, holding Yu Congcong in the middle, and Hu Zi walked behind. They followed the traces left by Gou Wa and walked further and further in the wrong direction. As they walked, the grass and trees became more and more dense, and the trees blocked their heads and they couldn't see the sun. The calls of various animals in the distance seemed like the soundtrack of a horror movie, which made Yu Congcong feel more and more uneasy. She tried hard to control her fear and resisted crying.
Tiezhu noticed that Yu Congcong was extremely nervous and thought she was exhausted. He hurriedly asked, "Congcong, can't you walk anymore? Let me carry you." Before he finished speaking, he squatted in front of Yu Congcong, put his hands behind him, and carried Yu Congcong steadily on his back. Yu Congcong was already extremely nervous from being frightened, and her hands and feet were weak as she lay on Tiezhu's back. "Tiezhu, can you do it? I'll take a break and then get down and walk by myself." Yu Congcong said shyly. Tiezhu responded, "Congcong, I'm very strong, and you're not heavy." At this time, Huzi suddenly shouted, "Listen, what's that sound?" Yu Congcong and Tiezhu stopped talking and listened carefully. There was an "oh woo" from the north, and then more and more "oh woo" sounds came one after another. Yu Congcong said in a trembling voice, "It's the howling of wolves. Hurry up, run in the opposite direction."
Tiezhu ran wildly in the opposite direction of the wolf pack with Yucongcong on his back, and Huzi followed closely behind him, rushing all the way. At this moment, a thin layer of mist filled the forest, as if covering the whole world with a mysterious veil. The sunlight shone through the gaps in the leaves, casting mottled light and shadows, swaying with our footsteps.
The sound gradually faded away from us, and everyone felt a little relieved, but they did not stop and continued to move forward.
As we walked, Tiezhu's expression suddenly became serious. He stopped and said, "Congcong, we are lost and have lost our way." Yu Congcong got off Tiezhu's back, turned around and looked around, trying to recall the directions we had taken from the time we entered the mountain to here. But she was confused, so she had to pick up a branch and draw on the ground.
"Tiezhu, is the direction we entered the mountain from the north?" Yu Congcong could only distinguish left from right. It was too difficult for her to distinguish east, south, west and north. Tiezhu replied, "Yes, the winding mountain road we took extends from north to east." Then he also imitated Yu Congcong and got a branch. He squatted opposite Yu Congcong, pointed to the first turning point and said, "The first turn should be to the north, and then to the east. The direction of the sound just now was northeast, and we were running in the opposite direction. This is the northwest direction. If I remember correctly, I will continue to move forward and should be able to find that road." Well, this is the only way. I hope we don't have a wrong memory. Tiezhu was about to squat down and carry Yu Congcong on his back again, but Yu Congcong didn't let him carry her. Because of the shock just now, she has overcome her inner panic. Huzi was tired from running and sat down on the ground to rest. Tiezhu looked at him and suggested, "Let's rest for a while. I'll find a tall tree to climb up and take a look." Yu Congcong replied, "Okay, go ahead and take a look!" Yu Congcong was actually unsure and didn't dare to be sure whether their analysis was right or wrong.
At this time, the village was in an uproar. After Gou Wa returned to the village, he went straight to Su Mingrui's house to find Tie Zhu. Su Mingrui was also curious when he learned that Hu Zi, Yu Cong Cong and Tie Zhu went to find him, so he asked, "Why didn't they come back with you?" Gou Wa said puzzledly, "I didn't see them?" "Hu Zi took them to find you." Su Mingrui looked at Gou Wa and said. "Ah, he didn't get lost!" "I got lost and came back. What can I do? Dongshan is still very dense. Villagers rarely go to Dongnanshan, and no one is familiar with it!" Gou Wa was so anxious that he kept turning in circles. Su Mingrui blew a whistle, and the little eagle flew over, "Little Eagle, Cong Cong is lost, let's go find it." After that, he explained the matter to the tribe leader, and hurriedly asked Gou Wa to lead the way to Dongnanshan. The tribe leader was very anxious, and he couldn't leave here. He had to find Goudan who was playing nearby and asked him to inform Xiaocao. Call Gangzi over and ask him to lead some people to search. Be careful not to make too much noise and do not let Fourth Uncle and the others notice it.
Tiezhu used his hands and feet to climb up as fast as he could. The trees around him were too dense to see anything, so he looked at the ground below through the gaps between the leaves.
Tiezhu was a little anxious because he couldn't see the road, but he was still calm and looked around carefully. He looked in the direction of the sound, and there were a lot of green lights moving towards them. He took a closer look and was shocked. It turned out to be a pack of wolves! Although Tiezhu was very scared, he didn't panic. He shouted at the lush green trees and the lake below: "Hurry up and get on the tree, the wolves are coming!"
Yu Congcong was so frightened that his face turned pale, his legs were cramping, and his body was as soft as noodles, so he couldn't climb up at all. When Hu Zi heard Tiezhu's shout, he stood up immediately and climbed up the tree next to him.
When Tiezhu saw this, he slid down from the tree, picked up Yu Congcong on his back, asked her to hold him tightly, and then climbed up the tree again with a grunt.
The wolves were getting closer and closer. Yu Congcong recovered a little and got off Tiezhu's back. She held on to a branch above and hung there. She told Tiezhu to go up first and she would slowly move her feet up. Tiezhu was a little exhausted at this time and thought it would be better to go up first and then pull Yu Congcong up.
The wolves had already arrived under the tree, about a dozen of them. It was dark all around, with only a faint ray of sunlight shining through the gaps between the leaves, barely illuminating a small area. The cold wind blew the leaves, making them rustle, as if it was the prelude to death, making people shudder.
Yu Congcong was so frightened that she almost fell down. Her feet were not stable and her whole body was hanging in the air. In this deep forest, her face was as pale as paper and her body was shaking, like a leaf in the wind, about to fall.
Tiezhu climbed up the branch above Yu Congcong's head and pulled her up. The branch could not bear their weight. Tiezhu hurriedly hugged the main trunk and climbed up. After finding a thicker branch, he wanted to pull Yu Congcong up, but Yu Congcong was timid and afraid because of her fear of heights. Yu Congcong sat on the branch, holding the main trunk tightly with both hands, not daring to look down or continue to climb. Tiezhu had no choice but to sit on the branch he had just climbed to rest and replenish his energy, so that he could rescue Yu Congcong at any time when she was in danger. Huzi was on another tree. Because he was lighter and braver than Yu Congcong, he climbed to the top of the tree.
The wolves crouched down below, waiting for their prey to come down. The wolves were very alert, and they rested in batches, some standing, some lying, determined to spend a long time.
Su Mingrui followed the little eagle into the mountain where Yu Congcong and the others were. The little eagle circled back and forth in the mountains, while Su Mingrui searched for traces along the road.
Su Mingrui successfully found the fork that led them into the depths of the woods.
