The Rebirth of an Orphan

Chapter 108 Adding a Great-Grandson

Zhao Xihua was helped out of the car by Gu Lun. She looked up and couldn't help but marvel inwardly at the huge pine forest. Standing here and listening to the sound of pine waves, she felt refreshed.

"Come on, let's go in and see Grandpa."

Zhao Xihua nodded, and followed Gu Lun to a very finely built building. Standing at the door was a row of guards with swords on their waists. When they saw Gu Lun and Zhao Xihua coming, they bowed and saluted. Gu Lun led Zhao Xihua into the main house. Unexpectedly, as Zhao Xihua followed Gu Lun into the door, a row of short feather arrows suddenly shot out from inside and stabbed Zhao Xihua instantly.

Before Zhao Xihua could react, there was a clang and the arrow was blocked by Gu Lun's sword. He then pulled Zhao Xihua tightly behind him and looked suddenly at the person sitting in the room.

The expression on his face was a mixture of shock, anger and surprise. Zhao Xihua was also shocked, but having experienced too many life and death situations, this little surprise only made her frown slightly, but there was no change on her face.

She could feel Gu Lun's large palm holding her tightly, and sweat had already seeped out of his palm.

"Let them in," Mr. Gu's voice sounded a little muffled, but it revealed a bit of coercion.

Could it be that the old man ordered someone to shoot the arrows just now? Could it be that the old man doesn't like her? If he doesn't like her, why did he come out to help them at the wedding?

Zhao Xihua looked at Gu Lun, hoping that he could give her some clues. What exactly did this mean?

Gu Lun's face was not very good. He just held Zhao Xihua's hand tightly and walked into the main room, then took Zhao Xihua to salute the old man of the Gu family who was sitting on the soft chair.

"Grandpa, today your grandson and granddaughter-in-law are here to kowtow and offer you tea."

Zhao Xihua didn't say anything, but just knelt down following Gu Lun and kowtowed to the old man according to etiquette.

Old Master Gu's eyes swept across Zhao Xihua and then fixed on Gu Lun's somewhat ugly face. He sighed and said, "You are too petty, grandpa was just joking with his grandson's wife."

"Grandpa, I don't think this joke is funny at all." Gu Lun's voice was a little cold.

Old Master Gu's face froze as he looked at his eldest grandson who didn't give him any face at all. This child's stubborn temper was exactly the same as his own when he was young.

He knew that Gu Lun was really angry, so he just sighed inwardly, then waved to the follower beside him, and the man walked up to Gu Lun holding a tray.

Gu Lun knew that his grandfather was a bit childish, and he didn't know what he would do now. The tray covered with silk cloth was brought to Gu Lun and Zhao Xihua.

Zhao Xihua glanced at Gu Lun, and Gu Lun raised his hand and lifted the silk cloth on the tray. On it was a pair of clumsily made clay dolls, a boy and a girl, who looked particularly cute.

Zhao Xihua found it a little funny that this old man still had a childlike innocence. Gu Lun was a little dumbfounded, but his expression softened and the previous gloomy look disappeared.

So he grabbed a doll and handed it to Zhao Xihua, saying with a smile: "This must have been made by Grandpa himself. You have to keep this gift."

Zhao Xihua also liked the doll very much and quickly put it in her arms. She really liked it.

Old Master Gu was in a good mood when he saw that Zhao Xihua did not despise the humble gift he gave her. Although this girl was born in the countryside and did not have the status of a daughter of a rich family, her elegant and steady attitude was something she could show off.

In fact, it’s not that he is stingy, it’s just that he is old now and can’t give much to his grandson. All he can give is his sincerity.

What's more, the wealth accumulated by his grandson is more than that of the entire Gu family compound, and all his forces are cultivated by the Ninth Prince. If the Ninth Prince ascends to the highest position in the future, his grandson will be an important official with first-class merits of following the dragon.

The old man looked at the couple in front of him and smiled, "As long as you like them, I don't have any other ideas now. If you can give me a great-grandson, that would be the greatest filial piety to me."

Zhao Xihua's hand that was pinching the clay doll trembled, but Gu Lun beside him laughed: "Don't worry, Grandpa, that day will come."

Zhao Xihua lowered her head and smiled bitterly in her heart. Will there be such a day? Her heart has grown old to the end. How could there be such a day? Maybe it happened in a dream?

After staying for a while, the two said goodbye to Mr. Gu and took a sightseeing bus to the main building where Gu Yan and Mrs. Hua lived.

Although the relationship between the two parties is too strained, the etiquette of paying respects to elders on the first day of marriage is still essential.

Zhao Xihua followed Gu Lun to the entrance of the main building. From a distance, she saw a luxury car parked at the entrance. She knew the owner was of noble status.

As soon as the two of them walked into the courtyard at the entrance, they heard bursts of laughter coming from the main hall, occasionally the barking of dogs, and then another round of noise.

Gu Lun's face looked a little unhappy, so he took him to the study connected to the main hall, where Gu Yan was concentrating on reading the secret documents and information coming out from the highest institution. Now the Presidential Palace was too uneasy, the fight between several princes had reached a fever pitch, and he was a little undecided.

Seeing Gu Lun bringing Zhao Xihua in, he quickly put down the information in his hand. Before Gu Lun could speak, he pointed at Zhao Xihua and said impatiently: "No need to be polite, get out."

Gu Lun grabbed Zhao Xihua's hand and walked forward to Gu Yan and said, "Father, the country has its own laws and the family has its own rules. Hua'er is the eldest grandson's wife of the Gu family and also the young lady of the Gu family. Father has to accept this gift."

Gu Yan looked down at his son who was kneeling down with Zhao Xihua in front of him, and he couldn't help but feel a little nervous. In front of this kneeling son, it seemed that he, the sitting father, was even shorter than him.

Then he calmed down and ordered someone to take a stack of checks, sealed them with red paper and handed them to Zhao Xihua. Judging from the amount, it should be a large amount, but in Zhao Xihua's eyes, she liked the pair of clay dolls that the old man gave her more.

Gu Lun thanked Zhao Xihua and whispered to her to keep the check. It would be hers from now on. However, Gu Yan looked at Gu Lun and said, "You stay here first. Let Miss Zhao... um... let Huaer go to meet your mother. I have something to say to you alone."

Gu Lun had no choice but to say to Zhao Xihua: "Then go to the main hall to greet your mother. I will be there in a moment."

Zhao Xihua knew that Gu Yan had something important to say to her son, and she was not someone who was ignorant of the current situation, so she nodded quickly and walked out of the study.
