Being a villain in apocalyptic writing

Chapter 21: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

The hand was very thin, with the joints protruding in a frightening way, and the various new wounds on it looked extremely hideous, but fortunately, they had been carefully coated with medicine.

Jiang Ye looked in the direction of his hand and saw that it was He Ziye.

The boy, about fourteen or fifteen years old, had not yet grown taller, but was taller than Jiang Ye who was sitting.

So even though he lowered his head, Jiang Ye could still clearly see the slightly frowning expression on his face.

He Ziye still didn't say anything, but he put the herbs into another medicine basket. He also turned the roots and leaves upside down and placed them safely according to the direction of the herbs in the basket.

Then he stepped aside and returned to his empty state.

Jiang Ye witnessed the whole process. She raised her right eyebrow and a hint of interest flashed in her eyes.

Then, she looked up inadvertently and found that Luan Ning had also noticed He Ziye's actions. The two looked at each other, and Jiang Ye curled his lips and smiled silently.

Luan Ning continued to teach her how to identify medicinal herbs, and Jiang Ye listened attentively, but she made more and more mistakes.

For example, she frequently put "Sanqi" into the "Ginseng" basket. Even though Luan Ning had repeatedly explained the difference between the two, she still maintained an error rate of 80 to 90 percent.

In the end, the good-tempered Luan Ning turned his head away, unable to bear to watch.

Jiang Ye was still not satisfied, so he put the "Gedaqi" into the "Sanqi" basket, and even moved it to a crooked position on purpose.

He Ziye finally couldn't bear it anymore, he strode forward, and with a serious face, he put the dozen or so medicinal herbs that Jiang Ye had placed in the wrong baskets back into the correct baskets one by one, and arranged them neatly.

The frown finally relaxed a little.

He turned his head and glanced at Jiang Ye, his eyes filled with condemnation and anger, his face clearly saying "How can you be so stupid? You keep putting it in the wrong place!"

Jiang Ye tilted his head and asked knowingly, "Why did you mess up the herbs I sorted?"

He Ziye suddenly opened his eyes wide, shocked at Jiang Ye's unreasonableness. It was obviously her who disrupted the medicinal materials!

Jiang Ye slowly stretched out his hand, pulled out a plant from the bottom of the "Sanqi" basket, and then placed it tiltedly into the "Ginseng" basket in front of He Ziye.

Luan Ning looked away again.

He Ziye's eyes widened even more, but he still kept his mouth tightly shut and said nothing. His body was tense as he stared at Jiang Ye angrily.

The latter seemed unaware and threw another portion of "Gedaqi" into the "Ginseng" basket. The medicinal materials that were originally neatly arranged by He Ziye were suddenly in a mess again.

Seeing that Jiang Ye was going to continue, He Ziye could no longer bear it and shouted, "Stop littering!"

He seemed to be still in the voice change period, his voice was a little hoarse and soft, and his roar sounded like a cat sharpening its claws, which could not scare people at all.

But Jiang Ye stopped when she heard the voice. She made a "please come in" gesture to He Ziye, then rolled her wheelchair to the side to make it easier for him to come forward.

He Ziye stood there hesitating for a while, but looking at the medicinal herbs that were messed up by the ginger leaves, he still slowly moved forward and put them in order one by one.

Then his brows relaxed again.

Jiang Ye chuckled, causing He Ziye to turn around and give her another condemning look before he walked back to his original position.

Want to go back again?

Jiang Ye pushed the wheel a few times, caught up with He Ziye, and pressed his shoulder: "Hey, young man——"

He Ziye was caught off guard and was pulled by her, causing him to lose his balance and fall backwards suddenly!

Jiang Ye's wheelchair also began to slide backwards, and seeing that the two were about to overturn, Luan Ning strode forward, holding He Ziye with one hand and steadying the wheelchair with the other.

The three of them breathed a sigh of relief at the same time: "Hey..."

The voices were too much in sync. After a moment of silence, the three of them looked at each other, and Jiang Ye chuckled.

Luan Ning and the other person also curled up the corners of their mouths.

But the next moment, He Ziye's expression changed slightly, the corners of his mouth drooped suddenly, and then returned to his calm look.

Seeing this, Luan Ning sighed softly, then looked at Jiang Ye, wanting her to stop teasing the child.

But he found that at this moment Jiang Ye was tilting his head, looking at He Ziye thoughtfully.

His eyes were curious, inquiring, and even a little indifferent, as if the person in front of him was not a child who had just lost his mother, but a threatening stranger.

But as he was distracted, Jiang Ye had already returned to his previous nonchalant self.

She smiled at He Ziye and said, "Young man, do you have obsessive-compulsive disorder?"

He Ziye didn't say anything, nor did he even look at her, but his stiff body shook almost imperceptibly.

"If you don't say anything, I will take out one-third of each of these baskets of herbs, mix them with the ones that haven't been sorted yet, and then put them back."

"...Jiang Ye." Luan Ning shouted, trying to dissuade him.

But He Ziye suddenly turned his head and said, "No!"

Luan Ning stopped right there.

Jiang Ye's eyebrows moved slightly: "Don't want what? You have to explain it clearly."

The muscles on He Ziye's face twitched a few times, and his expression changed back and forth, but he finally gave in: "Don't... disrupt them."

"But I can't tell them apart." Jiang Ye reached into a basket of herbs. "I didn't mean to mix them up. Doctor Luan can testify to that."

Looking at the child with a visibly changing expression, Luan Ning closed his eyes and made a decision that went against his conscience: "I will testify."

"How about you tell me and I'll put it there?" Jiang Ye kept looking at He Ziye, and seeing that he didn't respond, he picked up another plant of "Trifoliate Grass" and turned the wheelchair with one hand towards "Cyperus rotundus".

He Ziye suddenly became anxious: "Put this there!"

He pointed to the corner behind Jiang Ye to the left, where there was a pile of Tripterygium wilfordii.

A look of surprise flashed across Luan Ning's face.

He and Jiang Ye...had never classified "Tripterygium wilfordii" just now, and had never mentioned it in their conversation.

Jiang Ye, however, acted as if nothing had happened. He turned his wheelchair and put the trifoliate grass over to him. "Oh, I see! Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"..." He Ziye, whose demands were met, did not show any sign of relief on his face this time.

He didn't understand why Jiang Ye was so stupid and so annoying!

But Jiang Ye ignored his sulking and immediately picked up another herb, shook it at him and grinned.

He Ziye frowned, pointed in the direction of Guizhi with his stiff fingers, and then stared at his hands with an unpleasant expression in thought.

But he couldn't dwell on it for too long, because Jiang Ye would always put the wrong herbs in when he was silent, forcing him to keep paying attention.

This person is really annoying!

He Ziye, with resentment, finally helped Jiang Ye classify all the fresh medicinal herbs in the room.

During this period, he also encountered some that he didn't recognize, but as long as Luan Ning classified them once, or even as long as Jiang Ye recited the characteristics to him, he could draw inferences from them and accurately identify them.

Luan Ning exclaimed: "Maybe he has a potential to study medicine."

But He Ziye obviously didn't care about what he said. His frown finally relaxed after he saw the medicinal herbs neatly classified and arranged in the room.

But after admiring her for a minute, he suddenly glared at Jiang Ye again, and then, as if the power of a machine was cut off, he put away all the expressions on his face, walked behind Luan Ning, and returned to his previous appearance.

After watching his entire move, Jiang Ye turned around and met Luan Ning's solemn gaze. She spread her hands and said, "I can't do anything today. He's not tired, but I am."
