It was time for lunch. The village chief helped the two men carry their tools. After he was done, he called Lu Chengcheng: "Chengcheng, would you like to come to my house for lunch?"

Lu Chengcheng felt that he had troubled others a lot and felt a little embarrassed: "No need, uncle, I have bread, and I just need some water."

"Bread can't fill you up, and it's not healthy either. Let's go and have a meal." The village chief was very enthusiastic.

Lu Chengcheng couldn't refuse, so he agreed: "Thank you then."

"Don't be so polite, let's go." The village chief took Lu Chengcheng to his home.

His home is a small bungalow, home to a family of six: grandparents, the village chief and his wife, and two children.

I have two children. The older one is in junior high school and the younger one is in elementary school. They eat at school at noon and don’t go home. So there are four of us in my family now.

The village chief had told his family in advance that he would invite Lu Chengcheng to his home for dinner, so when everyone saw that Lu Chengcheng was not interested, they warmly invited her to the table to eat.

Lu Chengcheng thanked him and sat down on the chair a little awkwardly: "Thank you..."

There were three dishes on the table, stir-fried pork with green peppers, lotus root, and egg and lettuce soup. They looked delicious.

The village chief's wife served Lu Chengcheng a bowl of white rice and said with a smile, "It's just a simple meal. I don't know if you can get used to it."

Lu Chengcheng quickly said, "I'm used to it. I usually eat this. It's pretty good."

The village chief's wife was quite enthusiastic: "Then eat more, don't be restrained, just treat it as your own home."

Lu Chengcheng nodded: "Yeah."

Everyone sat down, chatted from time to time, and ate lunch.

The village chief asked, "Cheng Cheng, are you full?"

Lu Chengcheng praised: "I'm full, I'm full. The dishes cooked by Auntie are especially delicious, comparable to the dishes cooked by our chef at home."

The village head's wife was very happy to hear this: "That's good, then you can come to eat again in the evening. During this period of time, you can come to my house for dinner. It's just an extra pair of chopsticks, it's okay."

"Thank you very much, Auntie." Lu Chengcheng agreed and said he would give them some money when the time comes.

The village chief's wife smiled and said, "Don't keep saying thank you. We are all from the same village, so we should help each other."

Lu Chengcheng nodded: "Okay."

After a short rest, Lu Chengcheng went to work.

The village chief and the two men basically moved all the tools here, and then they started to transport materials and tiles. Lu Chengcheng asked to restore the previous roof, so they still used tiles to cover it.

An hour later, two more men came and went straight into the house and started cleaning the tiles off the roof.

The good tiles are picked up and reused, and the bad ones are cleared away.

In addition to tiles, there is also wood. Basically, the wood on the roof is no longer usable. Except for the beams, everything else needs to be replaced with new ones.

The roof was half collapsed, which was a bit troublesome to deal with. Tools were needed to successfully dismantle it. Crackling sounds began to be heard in this quiet village.

Lu Chengcheng couldn't help, she could only clear the weeds in the yard and check on the roof demolition from time to time.

Fortunately, both men were experienced, and although it was difficult to dismantle, they did it smoothly.

They threw down the dismantled wood and gave it to Lu Chengcheng as firewood. There was no natural gas in the village, so everyone could only burn firewood. There was no tap water, so everyone used well water, so life was still quite primitive.

Lu Chengcheng was really tired from working so he sat down on a rock to rest.

It will probably take at least a month or two to clean up this house and make it habitable...

The grandmother who borrowed the sickle came over with a piece of sugar cane and said, "Cheng Cheng, you have good teeth. I'll give you this sugar cane to eat and quench your thirst at the same time."

Lu Chengcheng stood up and took the sugarcane: "Did you grow this yourself?"

Grandma smiled and said, "Yes, I planted some. They didn't finish eating them when they got home, so there was a lot left. I'm too old to chew them, so I'll give them to you."

"Thank you." Lu Chengcheng sat back on the stone, casually and unrestrainedly, eating sugarcane leisurely.

The sugarcane is sweet and crisp, contains rich sugarcane juice, and is icy and cool, very comfortable.

Lu Chengcheng developed an even greater love for life in the village. When she was done with work, she would plant some sugarcane. There were so many abandoned farmlands here that she could just plant as much as she wanted.

After eating the sugarcane and taking a short rest, Lu Chengcheng continued to work.

Time passed by little by little, and Lu Chengcheng was so tired from working that she couldn't even lift her arms. She was a spoiled person to begin with, and after doing so much work on the first day, she really couldn't do it anymore.

Outside the yard, she had already dumped out more than twenty baskets of weeds, forming a large pile there.

Lu Chengcheng was afraid of hurting his arm, so he stopped doing it for the time being. This work didn't have to be finished today.

Sit aside and rest.

Around five o'clock, the children in the village started to finish school. Seeing Lu Chengcheng working happily, the children also ran over to watch the fun.

Among them was a very outgoing kid, about eight or nine years old, still wearing school uniform, named Guo Weijie. He came up to Lu Chengcheng and spoke like an acquaintance: "Sister, are you going to renovate your house?"

Lu Chengcheng turned his head to look at the little guy and found it a little funny: "Yes, you are out of school."

"Let it go." Guo Weijie has a buzz cut, but his facial features are quite attractive and cute. "I have to go back to do my homework later. I don't feel like doing it at all."

Lu Chengcheng said with a smile: "As a student, you should do your homework and not complain."

Guo Weijie shook his head: "I didn't complain, I just felt that it was too much, our teacher really doesn't know the sufferings of the world."

Lu Chengcheng was amused: "You mean you are honest?"

Guo Weijie nodded: "Everyone says so, but don't tell the teacher, he will punish us."

Lu Chengcheng couldn't help laughing: "How dare you talk nonsense then?"

Guo Weijie said seriously: "We are just complaining behind their backs. We don't really want to do anything. If we get to the teacher, it will be a big deal."

Lu Chengcheng said: "Okay, I got it. I won't tell your teacher."

Guo Weijie immediately regarded Lu Chengcheng as a friend: "Then you are my friend from now on."

Lu Chengcheng didn't expect to have such a young friend: "Go back and do your homework. Come back and play after you finish it."

"Okay, I'll go first." Guo Weijie skipped away.

Lu Chengcheng thought it was very funny and that this village was quite interesting.

It was almost time, and the village chief and the bricklayers had almost finished their work. They packed up their tools and walked towards Lu Chengcheng: "That's all for today, we'll continue tomorrow."

Lu Chengcheng nodded: "Okay, everyone, take care, thank you for your hard work."

The bricklayers walked away one by one.

The village chief called Lu Chengcheng to go home together.

The village chief's wife said, "Cheng Cheng, I've cleaned up the room for you. Go take a look. If it doesn't fit, I'll change it for you right away."

Grandma kindly came over to guide Lu Chengcheng: "Chengcheng, here..."

Lu Chengcheng carried the luggage and followed her grandmother to the room.
