My Rebirth and the Strange Adventure of Black Zhen

Chapter 361: Turbulence in Bathory Castle (Prologue)

As Bronk ended his communication with the Horde Warchief Garrosh, the light of the communication crystal gradually faded.

Over time, Quel'Thalas became a monument to the high elves' endeavor and magical power. Its beautiful palaces resembled the ancient halls of Kalimdor, yet they were intertwined with nature. Quel'Thalas became the jewel that the elves had always desired to create. The Silvermoon Council ruled Quel'Thalas, though the Sunstrider Dynasty also held some political power. A council of seven great high elven lords protected the elven lands and people. With their protective barrier in place, the high elves ignored the ancient kaldorei warnings and continued to use magic in most aspects of their lives.

The high elves lived in peace and harmony in their kingdom for nearly four thousand years. However, the grudge-bearing trolls did not give up. They plotted in the depths of the forest and waited for the number of legions to increase. Finally, a powerful troll army broke out of the Shadow Jungle and launched a siege on Quel'Thalas.

The Amani trolls returned with a thirst for revenge. The troll army launched a long siege on Quel'Thalas, almost destroying the kingdom. Faced with the crisis of national destruction, the high elves had no choice but to turn their attention to their southern neighbors: the human empire of Arathor.

The various human tribes had recently united under the rule of Thoradin, and founded Strom (modern-day Stromgarde) in the highlands south of Lordaeron. Although they too suffered from troll infestations, Thoradin realized the plight of the elves after the arrival of an ambassador from Quel'Thalas. The elves agreed to provide magical training to one hundred humans in exchange for Thoradin's military assistance. Despite his distrust of magic, Thoradin sent reinforcements to the elves out of necessity - he understood that Quel'Thalas and Arathor were in a relationship of mutual destruction. After defeating the armies of Zul'Aman, the elves asked Thoradin and his kingdom for a lasting friendship.

As time went by, Quel'Thalas continued to prosper. When the kingdom of Dalaran was established in the south, some elves traveled there to teach and live, including the crown prince of Quel'Thalas, Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, and the future Grand Magister Rommath. Silvermoon City and Dalaran declared an alliance within the next two thousand years.

Later, King Terenas Menethil II's grandfather successfully negotiated with Quel'Thalas to establish a border between the elven kingdom and Lordaeron.

Nearly three thousand years later, shortly after the fall of Azeroth, Anduin Lothar, the last of King Thoradin's lineage, led his people across the sea to Lordaeron and warned King Terenas of the approaching orcish horde. Terenas immediately summoned the rulers of the nearby kingdoms to a council to discuss the formation of the Alliance of Lordaeron. He appointed Lothar as supreme commander and sent a letter to King Anasterian Sunstrider, who had fought so brilliantly in the Troll Wars thousands of years before, informing him of Lothar's lineage and requesting aid for the Alliance. At first, Anasterian was reluctant to send a small force led by Alleria Windrunner. The king himself remained hesitant about the full participation of Quel'Thalas in the war, believing that the orcs might not be a threat to his country.

Soon after, when the Horde led by Orgrim Doomhammer invaded Quel'Thalas and burned the borders of Eversong Woods, it was discovered that the Horde had received assistance from the elves' old enemies, the Amani trolls led by Zul'jin. The orcish necromancers succeeded in destroying some of the runestones, allowing their magic to be cast, and the forces approached Silvermoon City, but even the red dragon servants of the invaders could not penetrate Ban'dinoriel's defenses. Alleria brought a freshly severed troll head to the Council of Silvermoon City, where it was dropped at the feet of Anasterian. This angered the king of Quel'Thalas, who immediately ordered his entire army to attack the Horde. Sylvanas Windrunner, the ranger-general of Silvermoon City, led the attack. The orcs gave up the fight and laid siege to Lordaeron, but the Amani saw this as a betrayal and decided to fight the unwinnable battle alone. Eventually the Amani trolls were driven back and Zul'jin himself was captured, though he managed to escape and disappear without a trace.

Regardless, Quel'Thalas was a member of the Alliance. After the Second War, the human world began to withdraw from Quel'Thalas, and the high elves fell into a cold war with the rest of the Alliance. These tensions eventually led to King Anasterian's resignation from his support for the Alliance. His official excuse was that poor human leadership had led to the burning of Eversong Woods (although Terenas reminded him that many humans had died defending Quel'Thalas); in addition, after the death of Lothar and the defeat of the Horde, Anasterian felt that his debt to Thoradin and his descendants had been repaid. With the exception of a few of their own people - including some elven priests and clerics, and Anasterian's son, Prince Kael'thas, a member of the Kirin Tor in Dalaran - the elves largely closed themselves off to the magical realm.

Anasterian's decision prompted King Genn Greymane and Stromgarde to follow the example of the High Elf King, a domino effect that had a direct impact on both humans and elves.

About fifteen years later, the plague of undead began to rage in Lordaeron. Terenas' son Arthas, a paladin trained by Uther the Lightbringer, hoped to prevent his beloved people from becoming undead under the Lich King, the lord of the Scourge, through his own efforts. However, it turned out that this series of events was a trap set by the Lich King to find a body for his soul, and Arthas eventually fell into madness due to despair. After arriving in Northrend, he picked up the rune blade Frostmourne and also dedicated his soul to the Lich King.

After becoming the most powerful of the Lich King's death knights, Arthas returned to his homeland, murdered his father, and destroyed the kingdom of Lordaeron. After this, Tichondrius, the leader of the dreadlords and the Lich King's jailer, asked him to resurrect the necromancer Kel'Thuzad - whom Arthas had killed not long ago - so that he could complete the task of summoning Archimonde to Azeroth. Tichondrius also told Arthas the perfect place to resurrect Kel'Thuzad - the mysterious Sunwell, the source of high elven magic deep in Quel'Thalas.

To reach the Sunwell, Arthas needed an insider who could get him through Quel'Thalas's magical defenses; he eventually found the lost magister Dar'Khan Drathir. The cynical elf believed he was being treated unfairly, and Arthas used his ambition as bait, promising Dar'Khan unparalleled power in exchange for his aid and loyalty. Under the protection of "Lord of the Blessing Arthas", Dar'Khan provided the Scourge with two powerful relics - the Lightstone and the Firestone - that allowed the undead to enter Quel'Thalas's defenses without being harmed. Arthas led the Scourge to open up a Death Road from the Elrondar River to Eversong Woods, now known as the Death Scar, and destroyed the runestones at the edge of the forest.

The elves set the area around the destroyed runestone ablaze in an attempt to stop the enemy's advance deeper into Eversong Wood. Yet the Scourge continued to push forward, breaching the elven gates and even Silvermoon City itself. Ranger-General Sylvanas Windrunner defended as best she could, but ultimately succumbed to the power of Frostmourne. Arthas used a foul spell of dominance to tear Sylvanas's soul from her lifeless body, creating the first banshee. Even the Relic of Quel'Delar, King Anasterian, Grand Magister Belo'ar, and the Council of Silvermoon were no match for Arthas and his legion, and were eventually massacred along with the elven people by the tide of undead.

After the destruction of Silvermoon City and the dissolution of the elves, Arthas completed his task and placed Kel'Thuzad's body in the Sunwell, defiling the sacred waters. The necromancer then returned to the human world and became a lich.

When news of the fall of Quel'Thalas reached Dalaran, Prince Kael'thas - now the last of the royal family and the decree leader of the high elves - returned to his homeland and worked with Lor'themar Theron and the other survivors to destroy the corrupted Sunwell to prevent a greater catastrophe in the future. Kael declared that in memory of their fallen brethren, the high elves would be reborn as blood elves.

The Scourge's invasion drastically altered the political landscape of Quel'Thalas. After the death of nearly 90% of the kingdom's population (including the king, ranger-generals, grand magisters, and ruling council), many political decisions were required to fill the gap.

Kael'thas Sunstrider declared himself the legal ruler of Quel'Thalas, succeeding his father, Anasterian Sunstrider. He chose not to be crowned, but referred to his father as the last king, while he adopted other titles (Prince, Lord, Sun King, etc.).

Sylvanas Windrunner's former lieutenant, Lor'themar Theron, was appointed regent of Quel'Thalas, charged with protecting the kingdom in Kael'thas's absence.

Halduron Brightwing, Theron's close comrade-in-arms, was elected as the new Ranger-General of Silvermoon City, leader of the Farstriders, and military leader of Thalass, replacing Sylvanas Windrunner.

Quel'Thalas after the Darkness.

Archmage Rommath becomes the new Grand Magister of Quel'Thalas, replacing the previous Grand Magister Belo'vir Salonar.

The Silvermoon City Council, which was completely wiped out by Arthas and Dar'Khan, no longer exists. Kael becomes the dictator of the blood elves.

The elves rejoined the Alliance forces and renamed themselves blood elves to commemorate their lost compatriots. However, the humans of the Alliance began to despise their elven "comrades". The leader of the remaining Alliance forces, Grand Marshal Garithos, who had serious racial ideas, often gave the blood elves tasks that were beyond their capabilities and even equivalent to suicide. Kael'thas was forced to ask for help from the night elves (led by Malfurion Stormrage and Tyrande Whisperwind, who were hunting down Malfurion's brother Illidan), and later on Lady Vashj and the naga.

When Garithos discovered that the naga were aiding Kael and his people, he sentenced the blood elves to death for treason. However, Kael and his companions were rescued by Lady Vashj and the naga, who brought them to Illidan in the ruins of Outland. With the promise of magical supplies, Kael swore an oath to Illidan that he would lead the blood elves in service. After setting up camp in Outland, Kael sent Rommath back to Quel'Thalas to assure his people that Kael would one day lead the blood elves back to glory. Rommath reunited with Lor'themar Theron, the regent lord of Quel'Thalas, and informed him of Kael's order for the blood elves to pack their bags and pass through the Dark Portal to the "Ultimate Land". Rommath also brought back what the prince had learned from Illidan - the ability to draw arcane magic from outside sources, whether objects, creatures, or humans. This was invaluable to the elves, who were starved of magic after the Sunwell's disappearance and lacked energy. Rommath and the magisters used powerful magic to rebuild the western half of Silvermoon City almost overnight. Kael'thas also brought back a naaru guardian, M'uru, who was defeated in Storm Fortress, to Quel'Thalas. The blood elves gradually mastered how to manipulate the divine power in him and used it to create a group of paladins, called blood knights.

At the same time, Dar'Khan Drathir was also killed by a group of blood elves, dragons and Sylvanas. Anveena's true identity will be hidden forever in Quel'Thalas.

After negotiations with the Alliance failed, the blood elves turned to the Horde for help. The Forsaken were the main force supporting their becoming part of the Horde, as their leader, Sylvanas Windrunner, had been a ranger-general during the Scourge invasion, and a large number of the Forsaken were also high elves who died in the war. There was only one major problem left to be solved: the Scourge remaining near Quel'Thalas was advancing from the Deadtholme Fortress at the southern end of the Death's Scar. The resurrected Dar'Khan Drathir commanded the Scourge within Quel'Thalas, and only by killing him could the blood elves truly become part of the Horde.

Quel'Thalas was later shaken by Kael'thas's betrayal to the Burning Legion. Kael'thas attacked his homeland to steal M'uru in order to summon his new master, Kil'jaeden, from the Isle of Quel'Danas, and the Shattered Sun was formed to stop the prince's dark ambitions. Lady Liadrin traveled to Shattrath City to ask her blood knights to join the new alliance and retake Quel'Thalas. In a conversation with A'dal, she learned that M'uru knew his fate before being captured by the blood elves; he had volunteered to serve the sin'dorei, knowing that his death would bring a better future for the blood elves and Quel'Thalas.
