Black Lotus Concubine's Case-solving Notes

Chapter 20 Dealing with the Evil Servant

It rained heavily in the evening. The windows were not closed tightly. The strong wind made the blinds rattle. Raindrops came in at an angle, and half of the wall of the room where Madam Liu lived was wet.

"Xiao Shi? Xiao Shi?" Ma Liu collapsed on the bed and shouted weakly towards the inner room, but there was no sight of Xiao Shi.

Aunt Liu cursed, "Where did this stinky girl die again?!"

Seeing the window shaking and the biting cold wind blowing in, Matron Liu shivered violently. She had no choice but to hold the quilt tightly and drag her sick body to get up and close the window.

It was pitch dark outside.

Nanny Liu reached out to grab the window, but it seemed to be hooked on something, or as if someone was pushing it from the outside, and no matter how hard she pulled, she couldn't open it. Just as she was wondering, suddenly there was a loud thunder out of nowhere.

The lightning lit up the entire yard.

Ma Liu saw a pale face appear by the window. The person's face was covered with thick powder, his hair was disheveled, and his cheeks were covered with raised, horrible purple-black scars!

“Ahhhhhhhhhhh!!! Ghost!!!”

Nanny Liu screamed and stepped back in fear, her back hitting the corner of the table and almost knocking over the candlesticks on the table.

"Madame Liu! Are you okay?"

A little maid stumbled over from outside, put the bowl in her hand on the table, and reached out to help Madam Liu, but was pushed away by her.

Aunt Liu's face was filled with fear, and she waved her hands in the air: "Ghost! Go away! Go away!"

"Madame Liu, it's me!"

Upon hearing this, Nanny Liu took a look through the gaps between her fingertips and finally saw the person's face clearly under the candlelight. It turned out to be the third-class maid, Cui Chai.

"You little bitch! You're ugly to begin with! And you come out on purpose in the middle of the night to scare me! What are you planning to do? Huh?" Matron Liu was so angry that she stretched out her leg to kick Cui Chai, but it hurt the wound on her back and she grimaced in pain.

"Madame Liu, please don't be angry. It's more important to recover from your injuries!" Cui Chai quickly pulled her up from the ground, helped her to the bed and said, "How dare I scare you, Madam? I'm just here to bring you medicine!"

"Send medicine?" Aunt Liu looked at the medicine bottle in confusion. It was indeed the medicine for her wounds in the past few days. "Why didn't Xiaoshi bring me medicine?"

"This medicine was originally supposed to be delivered by Sister Xiaoshi, but it was raining heavily today, and the Sixth Young Master was caught in the rain outside, so he called Miss Xiaoshi over to help serve. She happened to meet me on the roadside, so she gave me the job of delivering the medicine."

"You little bitch! When it comes to the Sixth Young Master's problem, his own mother doesn't care! Do you really think you can climb up the tree and become a phoenix? You're an ungrateful bastard!" Madam Liu was so angry that her nose was crooked.

"Forget it, forget it. I'll give you a chance today. Let you, little bitch, help me apply the medicine. Be careful!"

Cuichai quickly said yes and expertly helped Madam Liu roll up her long gown from her waist to her back. Madam Liu's back was covered with whip marks, some of which had scabs, some were still red and swollen, and some were covered with foul-smelling pus and blood, sticking to her clothes. Cuichai pulled it up and tore off a piece of skin.

"Ouch! You're going to die! Be careful!" Nanny Liu cursed as she felt a burning pain on her back.

"Yes, yes, yes!" Cui Chai responded, but a hint of imperceptible pleasure flashed in her eyes.

The cool ointment was applied to her back, and the burning sensation instantly disappeared. Aunt Liu couldn't help but wonder, "Did you change the ointment today? Why does it feel so comfortable when applied?"

Cui Chai curled her lips, but her tone was flat: "I didn't hear Sister Xiaoshi say anything about changing the medicine. Is it because Sister Xiaoshi is filial and saw that you haven't gotten better in the past few days, so she bought some better medicine for your wounds?"

"Hmph, I, an old girl, finally still have some conscience!" Matron Liu said with some relief.

Then he asked, "I heard that you were transferred to work in Ninth Miss's room these days?"

Cui Chai's men kept saying, "Yes."

Madam Liu snorted, "I'm telling you, when you work in this mansion, the first priority is to know who is in charge and who is your master! Remember this! The eldest lady can decide your life or death with just one word, so don't betray your master! Don't forget that your indenture is still with the eldest lady! If you offend her, she will send you to that dirty fourth-class brothel! You will live a life worse than death!"

"I dare not disobey Madam!"

"That's good. That Ninth Miss is just a lowly concubine's daughter. The First Lady has long wanted to get rid of her! Since I'm injured and you're in that person's house, you can help the First Lady to be a spy and keep an eye on her. You must report every move of the Ninth Miss to me. Do you hear me?"

However, there was no movement behind him.

"You stupid girl! Did you hear me?"

Still no reply.

Nanny Liu was annoyed and was about to slap Cui Chai, but she saw that she was looking at her with wide eyes in astonishment, and pointing at her shoulder with a trembling hand.

"Ghost, ghost, ghost, ghost!"

There happened to be another flash of lightning outside the house. Matron Liu didn't know whether she was frightened by the lightning or by Cui Chai's scream, but her neck shrank suddenly like a quail.

"Bitch! You dare to scare me?!"

"No, Ma'am, there really is a child lying on your shoulder!" Cui Chai's face was filled with horror, and the medicine in her hand spilled on the ground, leaving not a drop of residue.

"What child? Where did the child come from?!" Madam Liu saw that Cui Chai's frightened expression did not seem to be acted, and there was a hint of hesitation in her voice.

"There really is a child! Aunt Liu! Oh my! She stuck out her tongue! Her tongue is so long! It's wrapped around your neck several times!"

Nanny Liu subconsciously covered her neck, as if she was really being strangled, and her face turned pale.

"This child! I seem to have seen this child somewhere before!" Cui Chai seemed to have just remembered something and suddenly screamed, "Oh my God, isn't this the young lady?!"

"It's the young lady's wronged ghost who's here to claim her life!"

Cui Chai screamed and stumbled out.

Nanny Liu was also scared half to death. Seeing Cui Chai disappear in a flash, she felt shocked and angry!

"You little bitch! How dare you leave me here alone!"

Aunt Liu didn't want to stay alone with a ghost, so she stood up and tried to run. However, when she reached the door, she tripped over the threshold and fell on her back with a bruised face and nose.

Seeing that she couldn't escape, Madam Liu could only kneel on the ground and mutter, "It's all fake! It's all fake! The fourth lady said there are no ghosts in this world! It's all fake!"

But she said this, but she felt uneasy in her heart. A few days ago, Xie Lanzhao said that she heard the young lady crying, and the fourth young lady said that the little bitch scared her on purpose. How come even Cuichai, that dead girl, can see the young lady's ghost now?

Once is fake, twice is still fake?

Could it be that all of this is fake, and it really is the young lady's ghost coming to claim her life?

Just as she was thinking about it, there was another flash of thunder in the sky, and then a faint crying sound came from the dark yard. At first it was very subtle and vague, a bit like the cry of a kitten, and then the sound became clear. Madam Liu pricked up her ears to listen, and indeed heard the crying of a little girl.

Another flash of lightning illuminated the entire yard, and at this moment, Matron Liu clearly saw a black shadow flash past quickly at the corner not far away!

“Ahhhhhh! There really is a ghost!!!”

Aunt Liu was so frightened that she wanted to scream but was horrified to find that she couldn't scream loudly at all and could only make gurgling sounds in her throat.

If she had some doubts just now, now she was completely convinced! Because she heard it with her own ears! She saw it with her own eyes!

The wronged ghost of the young lady really came to seek revenge on her!

"It wasn't me! It was the Madam! It was the Madam who forced me to do this! Little Miss, if you have any grievances or hatreds, go find the Madam! Go find the Madam!"

Suddenly, Madam Liu's eyes widened and she felt an indescribable feeling spreading from the soles of her feet, followed by a fishy smell. She looked down and saw that her legs were wet. She was so scared that she peed her pants.
