Later one day, Deng Weihong felt that his practice had made great progress, so he went to find the old man to report and express his gratitude.
Then the old man told Deng Weihong that he was going to move as he was old and would go live in the city where his son lived. Before leaving, he gave Deng Weihong some of his inheritance and information.
The old man’s descendants are officials in the south. It is certain that they will not come back in the future, and no one will be engaged in this line of work.
Orthodox practice is a very boring thing. If you don’t have a true passion for it, few people can persist in it.
Cultivating cultivation is the most difficult thing in the world, and failure to achieve success is the norm. If everyone could achieve success easily, the world would still be like this.
For example, due to the local climate and the incompatibility of one's constitution, if one wants to cultivate the ability to slay demons and monsters in a place full of them, with this aspiration, one will probably be defeated before even leaving the novice village.
Everyone has different innate talents and the energy they are born with. Some people have good innate talents and amazing bones. They can refine the elixir and combine the five energies, and everything will go smoothly. Their bone marrow will be strong and full, and their primordial yang will be sufficient. If they get the right method or even the formula from a public account, they can make rapid progress.
For some people, even with the guidance of a true master, it is still difficult for their inner secrets to emerge. The dragon and the tiger cannot interact, the four symbols cannot be combined, and they endure years of hardship. Their innate deficiencies are not fulfilled, and after they are born, they often encounter difficulties. Their bone marrow dries up early, and their primordial yang leaks out early. If the method is not in harmony with them, or the fire is slightly weak, then their essence will be damaged, and the elixir will leak out. How can they achieve success?
Some people have a strong character, are wholeheartedly devoted to Taoism, have eliminated the three poisons, and focus on purity. They are truly immortals. Even if they do not practice Taoism specifically, they can still learn from various schools of thought and understand the mysteries of Taoism.
Some people have weak minds, change their minds every day, and destroy themselves by doing things. They are greedy for the six desires and are attached to the seven emotions. It is really difficult for them to be born as human beings. Even if they have the guidance of a true master and the secrets of immortality in their hands, they may not be able to succeed in cultivation. They may even fall into the wrong path and cultivate evil ways.
There are also some people whose minds are not in harmony with the Dharma, and who go against their nature, and practice the Dharma, and endure great hardships, but still cannot wait for any enlightenment.
There are also people who practice blindly, or meet evil teachers, or learn false secrets by mistake, or have incomplete lineages, or are supported by evil spirits. After three to five years, they can all be ruined in one day. If they make a mistake in their thoughts, the underworld will torture them to death, waste their essence and energy, and reduce their blessings. When the retribution for their karma comes, it will be difficult to escape.
Some people point to those folk witchcrafts and want to become immortals, or they learn Taoism but keep the five evil spirits as their own, accept monsters and evildoers and call it the fact that all things have a heart towards Taoism. They learn sophistry and evil methods and believe that there is no good or evil but only human heart. How can they achieve anything if they deceive themselves like this?
Some people do not understand the key to practice and think that they can succeed just by working hard. However, they do not know that if they do not get the true secret, they will believe in the so-called alchemy books that say they can replenish their essence and nourish their brain, but will only end up with burning desires that cannot be relieved.
Or perhaps you don't know how to feel the fetal breathing, and your spirit and energy are released outside your body all day long, allowing evil spirits to steal your energy and essence. How can you ever achieve perfection?
Or they just refine the turbid essence, thinking that they can refine it back to purity, but they don't know that this method is not the ultimate one. No matter how you refine it, it will always be turbid. You need to understand the principles of human ethics before you can know the opportunity and the limits.
Or maybe one is of a solitary nature, without the company of like-minded Taoist friends, or companions in alchemy and Dharma practice, and when he goes through the customs and takes the medicine, he is disturbed by the external environment, such as tigers and wolves invading, snakes and insects biting him, and he is even threatened by water, fire, swords and weapons, which lead to the failure of his Qi circulation and he becomes possessed by the devil.
Or maybe you indulge in socializing, without distinguishing between the noble and the humble, the rich and the poor, the wise and the foolish, and you are led astray by the spirit of their poor and humble origins, thus wasting your Dharma affinity, getting entangled on the path, taking more bumpy roads and less straight paths, wasting your life. How can you not be sad?
Or maybe one is not very attentive when a true master imparts the secrets, and then regrets it after receiving the Dharma. Or maybe one misses out on the secrets, and the master no longer teaches the ancient teachings, and in the end, there is a slight mistake in one's mind and will, and one cannot achieve the ultimate goal.
Or perhaps you are ignorant of the rhythm of heaven and earth, the movement of the sun and the moon, wind, rain, thunder and lightning, and the mysteries of the rotation of the Big Dipper. You get the seasons and directions confused, and are attacked and killed by the evil spirits of heaven and earth. Your body is filled with evil spirits and hidden diseases. If your body cannot be controlled, how can your mind be controlled?
Or some people like to teach others, discuss the Dharma with idle people, ruin people's wisdom and life, reveal the true secrets, and are secretly taken in by the ten demons. They are examined by the gods and faced many tests. They accidentally corrupt the Dharma and destroy the pure rules, and become complacent, without realizing their mistakes, and eventually go astray and lose the opportunity to become an immortal.
Or maybe you are arrogant and conceited, your temperament is not compatible, and the three poisons are rampant, and when the immortals come to teach you, you neglect the opportunity and destroy your own path.
Or if one has not been able to repay the fourfold profound kindness, has not been able to benefit the three great beings, does not accumulate merits and deeds, and only knows how to sit in meditation, how can one attain liberation from the law of cause and effect?
It is difficult to practice Buddhism, as the three obstacles and ten evils stand in one’s way. No level is easy, and each level of demonic obstacles, karmic obstacles, and calamity obstacles is more difficult to overcome than the last.
The reason why people have demonic obstacles is because they are tempted by greed, anger, and ignorance, which are also called the three poisons. There are two types of greed. One is when people successfully obtain something, they still want to get something better. The second is to get things that are not theirs, even at the cost of harming others. This is greed.
The so-called anger is the resentment and anger that arises in adversity or despair. If you fail, you will feel resentment; if you don't get what you want, you will be angry. People who are controlled by anger are often prone to acting on impulse and are irrational.
The so-called obsession is a state of not being able to distinguish right from wrong, being unreasonable, and not being able to distinguish between black and white. People who are controlled by obsession will not think about the essence of things, but will only force themselves to look at things according to their own ideas, will not listen to what others say, and will be stubborn in their own opinions. This is obsession.
Karma is caused by the five heinous crimes and the ten evil deeds. Karma refers to the consequences of a person's actions. We know that a person's behavior is controlled by his or her heart. The reason why the five heinous crimes and the ten evil deeds happen is because a person's heart has changed. Therefore, practitioners must first control their own minds and prevent them from being disturbed by the outside world, so that they will not do any evil deeds. This is the way to eliminate karma.
Disasters and obstacles arise when people suffer from the three disasters and eight difficulties. The so-called three disasters are wind disasters, fire disasters, and flood disasters. The eight difficulties refer to the difficulty of being born as a human, the difficulty of changing from a female to a male, the difficulty of having a complete body, the difficulty of being born in the Central Plains, the difficulty of meeting a virtuous ruler, the difficulty of having a kind and benevolent nature, the difficulty of having a peaceful country, and the difficulty of meeting the Three Treasures. These three disasters and eight difficulties are the causes of disasters and obstacles.
Everyone can talk about big principles, and when we don’t encounter disasters, they seem easy to overcome.
But in fact, Deng Weihong has been practicing since childhood, but has never been able to find a way.
Later, he received guidance from the old man and embarked on the path of cultivation, but he encountered dangers at every level.
Even if it were not for spiritual practice, and if he simply relied on his family to support himself, Deng Weihong felt that he must have lived a better life than what ordinary people consider successful.
When you really start practicing, you will find one thing: some things are really addictive.
As the saying goes, there are 360 professions and every profession has its top talent. But what has been pursued by the elites of the times from ancient times to the present, generation after generation, is not as simple as it seems.
No one is a fool. If it is not useful to oneself and can really gain something, how can so many people believe in spiritual practice? It would have been swept into the ancient garbage dump long ago.
