A Wizard's Survival Guide to the 20th Century

Chapter 33 33 Get something good

The rented car circled the city several times and finally stopped at the place designated by Levi.

"Thank you, this is a tip." Levi got out of the car with a box and handed a ten-fee note from the seat.

The taciturn driver nodded silently, took the money and drove away.

This was the intersection of the bustling Taylor Street in St. Francis. Levi carried the suitcase and took Charlie into a hotel. This was the Hildy Hotel in downtown St. Francis, which was expensive.

Levi took Charlie into the hotel and spent 20 Philippine dollars to rent a high-end suite in the name of "Ji Bochang".

The receptionist gave Levi the key to his room, and the two of them walked up to the second floor and opened the solid wood door.

"Wow." Charlie sighed, "This is my first time living in a house like this."

The superior suite has three rooms and a large living room, elegantly decorated and covered with carpets with complex patterns.

"Indeed, this is my first time living there," Levi said with emotion.

To put on a full show, since Li Wei wants to pretend to be a false identity, he must find a suitable place for "Ji Bochang" to live.

Of course, Li Wei himself does not have to live here. He only needs to send the signal of the existence of "Businessman Ji Bochang" to the outside world to cover up the "Detective Li Wei" hidden under this identity.

But "Ji Bochang" can't just be a piece of data that exists in the record, so that it can be easily seen. He also needs someone to give "Ji Bochang" the ability to deal with things and the ability to live in daily life.

That is "Charlie Hank, Ji Bochang's servant". As long as Hank shows up often, people will take it for granted that Ji Bochang will also be here.

After the two of them assigned rooms, Levi changed out of his more formal flannel navy coat and back into the old clothes he wore before.

"I'm going out for a trip. I won't be back tonight. You stay here." Levi walked out and warned Charlie, "If anyone comes to visit, just say that 'Mr. Ji' is out on business."

"Okay." Charlie nodded.

"By the way, aren't your family worried? If you never come home." Levi thought for a while and asked again.

Charlie shook his head: "I told Dad, it's okay."

Levi hummed, said nothing, put on his hat and left the room.

He lowered his head and walked out of the hotel inconspicuously.

He walked a short distance down Taylor Street and boarded the streetcar at the streetcar stop.

Taking advantage of this time, Levi took stock of the underworld forces in Oakland and St. Francis.

"The information known about Oakland is still insufficient. We only know about the 'Toltec Family'. Mr. Hua told me that this gang makes a living by selling drugs, private liquor, and tobacco. It is also a well-known force in Oakland."

"To be able to achieve this level, there must be a 'wizard' among their people. Will Martha be in their hands?"

"By the way, there is also the 'tuner' that Hu Zhentian mentioned. Is he from the 'family'?"

"Boss Han should only play a small role..."

"The situation at St. Francis is relatively clear, and Snowden gave me detailed information."

"The dark side here is divided between the Robbins family and the Metalia family."

"They all have apparent industries and legal identities, but I'm afraid they also all have their own wizards, and there are even multiple B-classes."

"I wonder if they have something to do with Martha's incident..."

……

At five o'clock in the afternoon, Levi walked into the North Beach police station again.

There was no one in the police station as always. There were only a few civilian staff on the first floor, and those police officers disappeared somewhere.

Walking up to the second floor and pushing open the door of Sheriff Snowden's office, Levi saw him reading a newspaper inside.

Chief Snowden glanced at Levi and asked curiously: "What's the matter?"

"There is progress." Levi said, "Also, I have to ask you for help again."

"So soon? Isn't there no news this morning?" Snowden said in surprise.

He poured a cup of tea for Li Wei, who happened to be thirsty and drank it all in one gulp.

Li Wei sat down and said, "Help me do something. I need you to help me add the entry record of a person named 'Ji Bochang' to the customs. Can this be done?"

Sheriff Snowden thought for a moment and said, "This is not difficult. Just go to the customs and tell them."

"Okay, the sooner the better." Levi said, "One more thing, help me get some drugs."

"Drugs?" Snowden frowned, "Are you still smoking this? Listen to my advice, smoking this is not good for your health."

"Suck your head." Levi shook his head and said, "I want to sell it."

"Sell?" Snowden was shocked and secretly touched the handcuffs around his waist.

This guy didn't hide it at all, and Levi saw it with a dark look on his face.

Why is it so troublesome to talk to this funny police chief every time?

"Don't rush to arrest me yet, listen to what I have to say..."

Levi sighed and quickly explained.

ten minutes later.

"So you pretended to be a Western drug dealer and went to Oakland to make deals with drug lords there?" Snowden concluded.

"Yes, that's it." Levi said, "The other side may investigate my identity, so I want you to help me get the record of Uncle Ji's frequent visits to St. Francis."

"What about the drugs?" Snowden blinked.

"You can help me get it. I can't just do it with nothing."

It is definitely illegal to do so, and Levi's previous side agreement was for this purpose.

He originally planned to let the police destroy a random drug manufacturing den, and then sell the seized drugs himself - but now it happened that the Central Police Station had ready-made drugs.

"Well..." Snowden pondered for a moment, "I have to remind you that although our California police can be considered a part of the underworld in a broad sense, we still have to abide by the law. Where do we get the drugs here?"

Levi chuckled.

"Of course your North Beach Police Station doesn't have it, but you can go to the Central Police Station and ask for it. They just seized a wave of drugs two months ago."

"It's all about fighting criminals, it's not shabby."
