The military-industrial scientific research system of the academic master.
Chapter 1009: True Sea and Sky Linkage
Facing Chang Haonan's shock, Chang Shan's reaction was...
Even more shocked——
The former was shocked that someone was planning to launch an all-electric verification ship so early.
The latter was shocked at how Chang Haonan seemed to know this stuff very well...
After the two of them stared at each other for a few seconds, Changshan spoke while thinking:
"Integrated Power System... This name is quite good and very concise."
Chang Haonan then realized that at the moment, domestic research on integrated power systems should still be in the relatively early stages.
So it is very likely that there is no established term to define it.
This unintentional remark of mine might have brought about the birth of this concept earlier.
Of course, after all, it's just a name and it's not that important.
What Chang Haonan is really concerned about is what he, or his research team, can do in this regard.
The Torch Laboratory has only been established for three years, and the first batch of students have not yet graduated, so there is only income but no expenditure, and the overall scale has also increased year by year.
The LNG ship at the Hudong plant has now passed the initial period of frequent problems and has entered a relatively stable stage. In most cases, it is sufficient to let a few graduate students take turns to monitor the situation and report it in a timely manner.
It is equivalent to liberating Liu Fangping and Lei Zhixing.
Originally, Chang Haonan's next plan was to have the two gradually transition to the research of non-contact magnetic bearings and permanent magnetic fault-tolerant power generation systems.
Both of them come from the mechanical industry, so it is only fitting that they are responsible for sending traditional rotor bearings (as well as their junior students in the same major) to the grave.
The only problem is that Torch Lab’s technical accumulation in this area is... relatively limited.
Chang Haonan has indeed tried to apply the permanent magnet fault-tolerant power generation system on the SeA650 engine, but on the one hand, he was only verifying its feasibility. In fact, the full set of mechanical rotor bearings were still intact. On the other hand, except for the design itself which was led by him and the 606 Institute, most of the core components were selected from foreign suppliers.
Even so, the relatively simple, mature and reliable switched reluctance motor is still chosen as its core power generation equipment.
In order to achieve high power density performance over a wide speed range, this type of motor needs to establish a large air gap to accommodate material thermal expansion and mechanical spacing specification requirements. As a result, the output performance is poor and the volume is difficult to further compress.
A more ideal choice is a permanent magnet motor.
However, let alone the Torch Lab, even looking around the world, there are no particularly mature technologies and products.
Germany, the United States, Britain, Russia and Switzerland each have related models, but they are all experimental equipment, and their reliability and volume power density are generally not ideal.
In addition, as SeA650 is a civil aircraft engine produced through international cooperation, the scope of supplier selection can naturally be relaxed.
However, most of the projects of the Aviation Power Group still involve military use, and the demand for bearing support components is large, requiring a stable supply. It is impossible to rely on imports for everything.
Therefore, no matter from which angle, we have to find a way to make the permanent magnet motor ourselves.
The opportunity to participate in the development of an integrated power system is like a pillow for a sleepy person.
Although there is still a huge difference between warship power and aircraft power, when it comes to the integrated power system, one of the key technologies is the permanent magnet propulsion motor.
Of course, it is impossible to move the products directly into the aeroengine, but the technology is always the same.
Therefore, Chang Haonan simply asked directly:
"I wonder if Changshan General Manager would be so convenient to tell us what specific progress you have made so far?"
"If you are in a hurry... our laboratory can first send a technician with relevant engineering experience to assist..."
Chang Shan looked at Chang Haonan, who was suddenly more proactive than himself, and couldn't help himself:
"It's not that we need to catch up with the progress..."
He waved his hand:
"Currently, this project is mainly led by Academician Ma. It is the first project he has led after being elected as an academician, so it is going very steadily."
Hearing this name, Chang Haonan said to himself, "As expected."
The name of Academician Ma Weiming is absolutely well-known, even though he had hardly any dealings with the navy in his previous life.
At the beginning of the century, Academician Ma's name was not yet a household name, but in fact he was already a leading figure in the field of ship power supply systems.
He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2001 largely because the ship power supply system he developed won the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award the previous year.
Of course, on the current timeline, Chang Haonan and Ma Weiming have never had any direct contact, and they certainly cannot appear to know each other too well.
Therefore, Changshan on the opposite side did not notice anything and just continued to speak calmly:
"We just completed a feasibility study at the beginning of this year. We are currently discussing whether to choose a medium-voltage AC solution or a medium-voltage DC solution, so the next step is to conduct a round of ground experiments in Jiangcheng."
"Once the technical route is determined, you can send someone over... Anyway, these preliminary tasks have little to do with the specific technical research and development. In other words... Instead, we need to eliminate external influences and see which solution has greater advantages..."
Regarding the choice between direct current and alternating current, Chang Haonan, with the benefit of hindsight, of course knew that the correct answer should be the former.
Moreover, even if it is based on his own needs, he will definitely choose the former——
AC technology can be used in land-based power system equipment. Engineering research and development only needs to solve problems such as improving the adaptability of equipment for ship loading and full system integration. The project is easy to implement, but it has high requirements for the speed regulation performance of the prime mover and the improvement of system power density is limited by the power supply frequency, which makes it difficult to compress the volume and weight. In addition, the parallel connection conditions of AC generator sets are harsh, and it is only suitable for objects that do not have high requirements for power density and are powered by the same type of power supply.
If the shipbuilding industry says your thing is too big, then it must be really big.
Americans chose communication technology, which seemed to be a shortcut, out of confidence in their own technological research and development capabilities.
Then a bunch of problems arise.
Of course, DC systems also have technical difficulties such as high system integration, strong nonlinearity, and tightly coupled electromagnetic characteristics.
But these parts are concentrated at the power control system level, which happens to be the part that China is relatively good at, and solving them is at least not as difficult as the AC system.
For a moment, Chang Haonan even had the urge to directly speak out the conclusions of this analysis.
Fortunately, I managed to control it in the end.
No need.
On the one hand, even though Chang Haonan is now famous, the naval engineering system is unlikely to change the project plan directly because of a word from an outsider like him.
On the other hand, China's technological research and development in the field of integrated power systems has basically not encountered any particularly catastrophic setbacks, and there is a giant like Ma Weiming in charge.
In this case, allowing them to complete the entire R&D process normally is actually a necessary condition for achieving rapid development.
So when the words came to his lips, he changed them into a question:
"So what Chang Shan means is that we need Torch Group to improve the fault fusion diagnosis system and install it on the verification ship?"
"Yes."
Changshan nodded:
“The integrated power system is good, but all technologies have two sides.”
"The centralized management and distribution of energy for the entire ship means that system risks can affect the entire system. Once the power system fails, it will not only be affected by the ship's power system. In the worst case, it may even cause the entire ship to be paralyzed!"
“Therefore, in addition to minimizing the failure rate of hardware and setting up sufficient system redundancy to ensure backup after a failure, we also hope to estimate the failure risk of the entire ship before a failure occurs and solve the problem in the bud.”
From this incident, we can see that projects led by bigwigs are indeed different.
The problems are clearly sorted out, the solutions are clear, and there are multiple backups.
Reduce project risks to a minimum.
It is no wonder that China in the past was able to catch up with the world in terms of ship electrical systems.
“Fault fusion diagnosis first requires sufficient understanding of the electrical design of the entire ship, so I can’t guarantee anything before I see the specific plan.”
Chang Haonan did not take on too much responsibility, but answered very cautiously:
"So... after you select a specific plan, I hope to send a technical team, or at least a technical representative, to join your project and follow up on the development of this technology verification ship throughout the entire process, rather than just being a party B that provides subsystems."
This is equivalent to the exchange conditions proposed by Chang Haonan.
Changshan understood immediately and pointed at himself:
“Like I am in the QC300 project team?”
"more or less."
Chang Haonan replied:
"I don't insist on taking the position of deputy chief engineer...but the people I send over must join your project decision-making level."
After hearing this, Changshan hesitated for a moment:
"Your request is indeed reasonable, but I am not the project leader, so I cannot agree to it on behalf of the entire team."
"But I will report the situation to Academician Ma. He personally asked me to discuss this matter with you, so he should not refuse..."
Having said that, it’s basically equivalent to agreement.
It's just that there are some administrative procedures to go through.
"Now, we are literally one in the same."
Chang Haonan joked half-jokingly.
Chang Shan was stunned when he heard this, and then he laughed as well.
The 703 Institute has now participated in the QC300 project led by the Aviation Power Group.
Torch Group will also send people to join the integrated power system research and development work led by Shipbuilding Heavy Industry.
The sea and air are linked together.
After some joking, Chang Haonan stood up and extended his hand to the other party:
"Then...wish us a happy cooperation in advance?"
"Pleasant to work with."
