Lords of Camelot
Chapter 623 The End of the War
The final result of the war is naturally needless to say, Davian and Arthur can be called invincible. The moment they entered the battlefield, they had already destroyed the morale of the Saxons. What power did the enemy have to resist the combination of these two?
The initial fear of defeat was just the knights' unfounded worries. In the end, the battle was undoubtedly a victory for King Arthur. Forty percent of the Saxon warriors were completely annihilated in this battle. This can hardly be called a war, but a one-sided destruction.
If it weren't for the losses on his side, Arthur would have thought of killing all the Saxons, but in the end he decided to give up, so as not to cause too much loss to his side.
The Saxons also swore that they would never set foot on British soil as long as King Arthur and the Lord of Camelot were still alive. This was a natural result, and Davian and Arthur's efforts were to drive them out.
At the foot of the mountain came the voices of soldiers who were inspired by the victory, while Davian and Arthur stood on the mountain. It was clearly a great victory, but neither of them had the slightest expression of joy on their faces.
Because Davian knew that today's war indirectly confirmed one thing: without these tens of thousands of soldiers, Davian and Arthur could destroy the Saxons by themselves. In the final analysis, it was just meaningless killing.
The isolation of Arthur and himself is an inevitable fact, which is helpless but must be accepted.
"Forget it, let's think about something happy. It hasn't even been ten years yet, and we have already wiped out the universe and solved the problem of the foreign races in Britain. The next thing is the problem of this land itself."
Davian mentioned this, and the two smiled knowingly. But after this relaxed laughter, Arthur could only sigh that nothing could be hidden from Davian, and there was indeed something wrong with this piece of land itself.
"I'm not stupid. The land has been declining year after year, and there are ferocious monsters. I asked Sir Lancelot, and France on the other side of the river doesn't have so many problems. There must be something wrong with the root of this land, otherwise things wouldn't have turned out like this."
He explained the matter very clearly, and Arthur could only say that it was true.
"It has been seven years since I started my rebellion, Davian. It took us only seven years to razed this island. Now we have to find a way to change the nature of the land itself so that the people living on it can survive."
Arthur's words drew Davian's approval, and that was all they had to do next.
"But... Arthur, do you really not care? You have to know that this is the kingdom you worked so hard to build, but in the end you were isolated by your people and became an existence that was incompatible with them. If I were you, I would have already cried."
"Hmph~ You always think of me as the boy who raised horses in the village before. Now I am King Arthur. If being isolated by the people is my fate, then let it be. Besides, don't I still have you by my side? I am not alone."
When Arthur finished speaking, Davian approached him and gave him a big hug. This unexpected move made Arthur stunned, but then he couldn't help but feel that Davian's embrace was very warm.
"Alright, alright~ Stop trying to be so stubborn. Why are you pretending to be so strong in front of me? I'll just give you a hug as a reward. But you're right. You are not alone."
Davian's encouraging words made Arthur laugh, and the two men separated after hugging for a few seconds.
"The era of wars that relied on heroes has come to an end. Even if there are wars in the future, they will only be small-scale, scattered battles. Now Britain has finally gained a moment of peace. This is good."
"We have completed the prerequisites, and the next step is to slowly transform this country into the ideal country in our minds."
The two people talked about their common goal and spent countless efforts to finally get everything they have now. The next step is to slowly nurture it and let it continue to thrive.
With the Battle of Badon Hill, the nine-month expedition finally came to an end. When they returned to Camelot, they were welcomed by the people.
Davian rode on the Blue Lion, and King Arthur rode on Don Stallion, heading toward the palace in the distance. The cheers from both sides made the Knights of the Round Table and the warriors behind them feel extremely happy. This was a joyful fact.
Then, unexpectedly, Davian jumped off the lion and started playing with the children around him. Although he felt that there was a gap between him and the knights, he was still very close to the people he protected.
There were even some people on both sides of the road who were forcibly relocated to the surrounding areas of Camelot by his decision, but the huge prestige brought by the expulsion of the Saxons had made everyone forget the little dissatisfaction in their hearts.
The people around him subconsciously wanted to kneel down, but Davian motioned for them to stand up. Then, on the side of the road, Davian said to everyone:
"There is no need for this, my people. We protect you, we fight for your future, this is as it should be. As I said before, we have an obligation to hold you high, because even the slightest loss of your whereabouts would be unworthy of our identity."
The people around burst into huge cheers at this moment. David's simple words won more people's hearts. He is very good at doing this kind of thing. He has this extraordinary affinity.
However, in the dark alley nearby, a young man wearing a simple hood murmured, "That's...Knight King Arthur and Lord Davian of Camelot."
"That's right, that's the opponent you should target. He's the enemy you must defeat, Knight King Arthur." The woman who was also wearing a simple hood and a black and blue veil said this to him from behind, and upon hearing this, the young man only showed a distressed expression.
How could he do this? Not to mention the king, the lord... Mordred had never seen such a friendly person. Just standing at a distance, Mordred could feel the lord's strong will, which was stronger than his strength. How could Mordred summon the strength from his heart to defeat him?
The dragon was too far away, but the lion was so close. At this moment, Mordred had already thought of leaving his mother behind him. He decided to serve the lion knight and become the sword of that adult.
[If only that man was my father... but how could I be worthy of him...] Mordred even had such a lament in his heart. After just their first meeting, he was already fascinated by Davian and immersed in the brilliance of this adult.
"Okay, it's time to go. Mordred, from now on you will act together with your sister. Join the First Legion, acquire all the skills of the Lion Knight, and then become someone who can replace King Arthur." Morgan said here, and left with Mordred.
Mordred hummed and followed Morgan. Going to the First Legion? That's great... But can someone like me attract the attention of Lord Davian?
