HP: Embrace the Darkness

Chapter 2 Re-understanding Magic

Early the next morning, Asseth got up energetically and got dressed and washed.

Today is the second day of his formal magic initiation, and his father is in charge of teaching him.

He was looking forward to it because compared to his mother who was better at alchemy, his father was better at magic.

Same as yesterday, but the person waiting downstairs changed from mother to father.

The two met and said good morning to each other. After having breakfast quietly and quickly, they went to the basement.

Unlike the gentle and lively Anna, Arthur's father, the Duke of Devonshire, was more harsh in his treatment of his son's education.

"Aces, I heard from your mother that you have mastered first-year magic?"

"Yes, Father, yesterday my mother and I tried all the magic spells in the first grade textbook."

The Duke nodded and asked him again

"Then let me ask you, what do you think is the most important thing in releasing a curse?"

Aces thought back to the release of the curse yesterday.

He didn't use a wand, so it wasn't necessary.

The mother's fluorescent spell did not recite the magic spell, so the spell was not necessary.

As for gestures, he didn't deliberately imitate his mother's gestures yesterday.

"The most important thing is magic?"

Aces looked at his father a little uncertainly.

"That's right. Magic power is also very important in the release of a curse. The strength of the magic power determines the power of the curse."

"But what I want to tell you is that the most important thing for the release of a curse is faith."

"belief?"

"Yes, Faith, even a not-so-powerful wizard, the magic power he can unleash at a critical moment of life and death is far beyond his own level."

"You haven't come into contact with the magic of disembodiment yet. When you start to learn this magic, you will feel how important firm belief is to releasing a spell."

"In the past few years, in the Muggle world, you have also been exposed to some Muggle opinions. Among them, materialism and idealism have always been at odds. But in our magical world, idealism is the truth."

The Duke paused and continued:

"The reason why magic is magical is that it can make people's wishes come true."

Asseth looked at his father in shock. He felt that he had truly entered the world of wizards for the first time, and the mystery of magic was slowly unveiled in front of him.

This feeling made him unable to extricate himself.

The Duke saw the fascinated look on his face and couldn't help but interrupt him.

"What I just said comes true. In fact, no wizard can do it."

"The use of magic by today's wizards is far from enough to achieve the state of achieving what they want, not even Dumbledore can achieve it.

"It is precisely because of the difficulty of using magic that we need to use wands, spells, and gestures to assist us in casting spells."

"Okay, let's verify something next."

Asseth looked at his father in confusion.

The Duke turned around and took out several cages from the side of the basement. In the cages were more than a dozen lively white mice.

He waved the magic spell to fix the ten white mice on the ground, then turned to ask Asseth if he knew the petrification spell.

Aces shook his head. He didn't see this curse in the textbook yesterday.

"Okay, now you can see clearly what I do."

The Duke slowed down and waved his wand.

"Total petrification"

Gray-white light shot out from the Duke's wand and landed accurately on a white mouse.

The movement of the white mouse suddenly froze, and the entire mouse began to be engulfed in gray until it turned into a small stone sculpture.

"Remember? Now you don't have to imitate me, just do what you did yesterday." The Duke asked Asseth

Asseth watched the little white mouse nod his little head seriously.

Then he raised his hand to face the mouse just like yesterday.

"Total petrification"

The mouse was shrouded in gray-white light, and gray gradually spread all over the mouse's body. This process was much slower than the Duke's.

The Duke went up to observe the petrified mouse. The petrification was not good, and the mouse's eyes were still moving.

After observing, the Duke said to Asseth:

"Continue to the next one. This time, recite silently in your mind ten times that I want to petrify the mouse, and then cast the spell."

Asseth nodded and began to recite silently in his mind. After ten times, he raised his hand to face the mouse again.

"Everything is petrified."

The Duke nodded, and Asseth's voice was obviously much firmer this time than the last time.

This time the white mouse was quickly covered in petrification.

After the Duke stepped forward and took a look, he asked Asseth to observe the difference between the two mice.

Aces carefully observed the two petrified mice and found that the mouse he cast the spell for the first time was not completely petrified, and its eyes were still moving.

The petrification of the second white mouse was much stronger than that of the first one, and its entire body was petrified without any omissions.

"Is this the power of faith?"

Asseth murmured.

"Yes, this is the power of belief. A wizard who is firm enough is far more difficult to deal with than an ordinary wizard."

The Duke confirmed his soliloquy.

"Next, you can try the effect of gestures on spell casting. Do you still remember the gestures I made just now?"

"Remember, Father"

"Okay, I need to deal with some things now. It's over there. If you have any questions, come and ask me."

The Duke pointed to the desk on the other side of the basement and said.

"Okay, thank you dad"

Aces raised his little face and said to his father.

After the Duke left, Asses continued to raise his hand, recalling his father's gesture just now, and waved his little hand.

"Total petrification"

He thought gestures had an effect.

He has good control over the magic power, so he just clearly felt that when he released the magic spell this time, the magic power was smoother than the previous two times.

Moreover, it seems to be released according to a certain trajectory.

Aces was keenly aware of this.

Then if I actively control the magic power to be released according to this trajectory, then there is no need for gestures.

So Asses started to try again and again.

Failed.

No, that's not it. It's just a little bit worse.

After failing more than ten times in a row, Asseth began to feel a little irritated. Why did he fail when he clearly released the spell according to the trajectory just now.

What's wrong?

Aces pondered, breaking down each step he took into several nodes for analysis.

Finally he raised his hand again and waved.

"Total petrification"

It worked!

The same fluidity with which he used his hand gestures made Artes aware of this immediately.

It turns out that this is the case, because the wrist is naturally moved when the gesture is waved, so the actual trajectory is different, no wonder it fails.

After thinking about it clearly, Asseth began to release the magic spell again and again. He always felt that the flow of magic power when the magic spell was released had not reached the limit.

He thought that there must be a smoother casting trajectory.
