LiDAR may be more expensive, but it is safer.

Safety must be put first, which means that pure visual solutions are unreliable.

At the very least, it should be a comprehensive solution of vision + lidar, or a full range of lidar.

Now that Xingyi TV has been successfully developed and will be put into mass production within a week, Wang Yi also has to prepare for the future.

Xingyi Automobile is the next big project, which will take several years to prepare.

The driving solution of Xingyi Automobile is vision + lidar.

LiDAR, like chips, is a scale effect.

If 10 64-line laser radars are mass-produced, the diluted cost will be only a few thousand yuan, and the selling price can be reduced to 1 yuan!

But Velodyne has a unique way of thinking. With so many customers lining up to place orders, they not only do not increase production capacity, expand scale, and seize the market.

On the contrary, they still produce slowly, sell slowly, and sell at high prices.

In the past 2007 years from 2019 to 12, Velodyne's total sales of lidars were only 3 units, but its revenue was as high as 5 million US dollars, and the average price of a single unit was more than RMB.

It was not until the emergence of domestic LiDAR companies such as Hesai Technology and RoboSense that the price of LiDAR was lowered and it gradually became popular.

However, in its previous life, Hesai Technology built a team in the United States in 2013, returned to China to establish Hesai Technology in 2014, and only developed the 2016-line laser radar in 32.

Now that it has not been established and has no output, it’s all in vain.

Wang Yi couldn't wait and had to do it himself.

It just so happens that laser radar is not only used in electric vehicles, but also in sweeping robots.

Of course, the laser radar of the sweeping robot is much lower-level and cheaper.

After all, a sweeping robot only costs a few thousand yuan, and it is not realistic to equip it with a high-end laser radar costing tens or hundreds of thousands of yuan.

In 2010, Neato launched the Neato XV-11, which was equipped with a laser radar, thus opening a new era of popularization of sweeping robots.

The laser radar equipped in Neato XV-11 was stripped of all unnecessary structures and the final cost was reduced to 200 RMB.

Similarly, if Xingyi Technology wants to develop a sweeping robot, it also needs to master laser radar.

We will first practice with low-end LiDAR for the Xingyi sweeping robot, and also help build team coordination and accumulate experience before moving on to high-end automotive LiDAR.
