Floor heating is a facility that both of them are relatively unfamiliar with, and there are several options for building this heating facility.

For example, there are facilities such as fire pits and fire walls, but because the layout of the home is not reasonable, the kitchen, which can save space and fuel, is not connected to the brick house.

The heated kang was not very comfortable, not to mention it was rather hard. It would be extremely hot to sleep on if the heat was so strong.

Mu Xi also proposed to modify the original fireplace to allow the smoke to flow downwards. The bottom of the house is covered with flues. While the burning fireplace generates heat, the smoke generated along the flues can also warm the entire room. Kill multiple birds with one stone.

This idea is not impossible to implement, but it is very troublesome.

Zhao Yeqing has lived a simple life in the mountains for a long time. He hates troublesome things the most, so he always thinks about forgetting it and burning a fireplace to spend the winter. It's a bit cold, but it saves trouble.

After the two spent a whole day digging out the storage cellar, they came up with the final plan to experiment on a small scale with the feasibility of replacing the fireplace with floor heating.

The floor is so warm that the heating fire place is embedded under the foundation of the brick house. If the fire place is at a high place, the smoke cannot go down.

Part of the fireplace itself is built under the fire. The place where the ash falls is usually convenient for removing the ash and shoveling it out from the back of the house. Mu Xi's idea is to put the floor heating and fire place here. The location of the ash pit.

The area of the entire brick house is a bit too big. If it were covered completely, not only would it consume more firewood, but the amount of paving work would also be larger.

The two planned to divide the house into three parts and use thick curtains to make a simple partition.

When it's the coldest time, I guess I won't want to go to the kitchen to cook or anything else. Then there will be some fumes in the room. I use bamboo curtains to divide the brick house into two parts horizontally from the middle, and then separate the sleeping areas. The bed is separated, so the quilt can reduce the smell of oil smoke.

Underfloor heating only covers half of the room where the fireplace is located, and curtains can also reduce heat dissipation.

Curtains are not difficult to obtain. You only need to go to a B&B in a tourist area and remove the curtains together with the curtain rails or rails. The curtains in B&B hotels are basically blackout curtains. They are thick and uniform in color and will not look ugly.

Of course, the prerequisite for this is that the floor heating is successfully installed.

The most troublesome thing is probably the selection of flue materials.

The flue material close to the fire source must be made of metal. The most common metal in the home is aluminum, followed by iron.

It is troublesome to melt iron, as the melting point is too high, and a brick kiln must be set up to smelt a sufficient amount of iron into molten iron at one time.

The melting point of aluminum is only over 600 degrees, so smelting is relatively simple.

The two first melted the aluminum, poured it into a pipe-shaped mold made of clay, and left it to cool and solidify into the shape of the pipe.

And most importantly, the flue material covering half the room from the fire source.

Mu Xi tried using bamboo and found that high-temperature smoke passed through the middle of the bamboo, and even if there was no open flame, it would still turn yellow over time.

It only took less than a day for the experiment to start turning yellow. If the fire is burned every day in winter, it will probably carbonize in less than a month, which is too dangerous.

There were not many materials available locally, so Zhao Yeqing finally made the decision to just use mud.

The foundation is raised, and there is originally a mud foundation underneath, with a red brick cement floor laid on top. If bamboo pipes are used to separate the layer, not to mention whether it will carbonize and catch fire, the heat will also be blocked by most of it.

It would be better to dig out the smoke passage directly from the soil foundation below, just like creating a ravine with nine twists and turns under the red brick cement floor, allowing the hot smoke to pass through, and finally pass through the chimney next to it. discharge.

Mu Xi's eyes lit up after hearing this, "This is good. It not only saves trouble, but is also safe."

In fact, no matter which method is used, there is no escape from having to knock down the floor and re-pave it.

Zhao Yeqing felt that since he was going to do something, he had to do it well. If this winter was still so cold, the floor heating would be very necessary. If it was done successfully, maybe the winters in the next few decades would be warmed by this floor heating.

But you can’t do it blindly. After all, this is your first time doing floor heating.

The two first made a simulated scene outside the yard, dug out the flue, and laid red bricks on it. After lighting the fire, they tested whether they could warm the red bricks.

Perhaps because the scene was not airtight, it took a long time for the red bricks to slowly warm up.

The area of the experiment was not large, and the two concluded that this method was feasible, but it would take a lot more time to warm up half the room.

However, if you really use floor heating, it will most likely be turned on until the temperature warms up. There is no problem of having to spend time waiting for the floor heating to get hot every day.

Once the feasibility is determined, start the operation.

Mu Xi first moved the furniture to the back half of the room, then put away the straw mats on the ground, picked up a sledgehammer and started smashing the floor.

After Zhao Yeqing helped smash the floor, he drove to the tourist area to take down the curtains.

Mu Xi threw all the waste materials from the room window into the backyard, and then dug out the flue from the soil foundation.

The remaining red bricks were barely enough to cover the room, and they would be replenished after the room was completed.

Before winter comes, prepare some red bricks and cement, so that if there is a place that needs to be built and reinforced, you won't be unable to get it out at all.

By the time Zhao Yeqing returned from the tourist area, Mu Xi had already re-paved the red bricks on the floor and was applying cement on top.

When she came back, Mu Xi asked her to put cement in a small bucket in the backyard and pass it in through the window. The cement was not mixed in the room. After all, half of the room was still intact, and it would be too much dust in the room.

After Zhao Yeqing handed him a bucket, he leaned at the window and chatted with him. After he finished using it, he continued to hand it to him.

Mu Xi smoothed the cement on his hands and sighed: "Fortunately, I didn't pry the tiles back to lay the floor, otherwise it would be a pity to knock them out now."

Zhao Yeqing deeply agrees, "After all, ceramic tiles are already a non-renewable and scarce resource within our technical scope. One less piece is used."

There are not many ceramic tiles in tourist areas. Most of them are primitive yurts or houses with wooden structure. Their construction level has not reached the self-proclaimed master level, so they will not easily touch the existing ceramic tiles. It will be distressing if they are broken. die.

After smoothing the cement, he still had to wait for it to dry. Mu Xi lit the fireplace to heat it up to speed up the drying of the cement. The lit fireplace was still in its original normal burning position, without using the part embedded underneath.

Mu Xi was afraid that the cracks would be blown out by the smoke before the cement was dry, so the floor heating could not be started until it was completely dry.

Zhao Yeqing first built the middle part of the curtain. The curtains used Roman rods. After the two pieces were spliced together, they could be better fixed at both ends of the room. When not in use, they could be opened just like curtains. It was flexible and convenient.
