Half an hour later, Li Erlang opened the lid of the pot at the right time, and a large amount of steam exploded from the pot, instantly blinding everyone's eyes. They came over and saw Li Silang and Li Yu retreating repeatedly, waving their hands to fan away the mist in front of them.

When the steam dissipates, the boiling sauce in the pot is bubbling and wrapping around the colored goose meat. It looks like the taste will be good.

Li Erlang poured the side dishes into the pot and waved a large spatula to stir them continuously so that the side dishes were also coated with the sauce.

At this moment, a man from outside pulled aside the heavy curtain and said, "Second brother! Brother Ji! I found out the identity of that monk!"

It’s Saburo!

After saying this, Li Sanlang suddenly started coughing violently. Li Erlang pulled him into the kitchen and helped him calm down.

Li Sanlang coughed as he took a deep breath. It was cold and he ran faster, so his throat was throbbing with pain. Even so, he couldn't help sniffing and looking into the pot: "Second brother, it smells so good. What are you cooking?"

Li Silang quickly pointed at the pot and explained: "Brother Ji taught my second brother to stew a goose in an iron pot, and added a lot of fresh vegetables! The sauce and spices are enough, it's so fragrant!"

Li Erlang glanced at Silang, then quickly handed Sanlang a bowl of warm water and urged him to speak quickly.

After drinking a bowl of warm water, Li Sanlang felt better. He said in a hoarse voice, "I saw the words 'karma' engraved on the Buddhist seal, but I didn't know what they meant. Because the government banned Buddhism, the academy couldn't find any books related to Buddhism. Fortunately, Du Yuan followed his grandmother to worship Buddha and knew the meaning of 'karma'. I deduced Bai Qingshan's identity as a monk from the words 'karma'."

After explaining the meaning of "karma", Li Erlang also figured out: "'Karma' was introduced to Dali from the southern region along with Buddhism. It was supposed to be a way to manage temples, but it was abandoned due to climate and soil incompatibility. The Karma monk is the abbot. Knowing the time when Karma disappeared can tell us the last person who held the Karma mark, and the last person who held the mark is the monk Bai Qingshan!"

Li Sanlang nodded: "Karma disappeared more than 300 years ago, when Baiqingshan Temple was built not long ago..."

Ji Qingyue answered excitedly: "So the first abbot is Monk Bai Qingshan!!"

"Ah."

Li Erlang and Ji Qingyue quickly recalled the information they saw last night about the first abbot of Baiqingshan Temple. The kitchen suddenly became quiet, with only the crackling sound of burning firewood and the gurgling sound of the pot.

Seeing that no one was paying attention to the goose meat in the pot, Li Silang hurriedly stepped forward, stepped on a small stool, raised a wooden spatula and turned the food in the pot, and did not forget to remind his brother: "It's time to make the pancakes!"

I really didn't forget to eat at all.

Li Sanlang volunteered and took the wooden basin from Li Erlang after washing his hands. He took out a small piece of the dough, randomly pinched it into a pancake, and then patted it on the edge of the pot.

Ji Qingyue didn't speak for a long time, and Li Erlang was even more silent with a frown on his face.

The two of them couldn't help but sigh in their hearts, why did it have to be the first abbot.

The first abbot of Baiqingshan Temple is the most mysterious of the five abbots. He lived the longest time and left the least information, not even a single calligraphy or painting left. The only clues about this abbot can be found in travel notes and diaries that deliberately conceal important clues.

More than 300 years ago, when Buddhism was prevalent, a wealthy businessman donated money to build Baiqingshan Temple. It is reasonable to find a famous monk to be the abbot after the temple is built to attract pilgrims to burn incense, but Baiqingshan Temple did not do so.

"The records in the temple don't mention much about the first abbot's life before he shaved his head and became a monk, so his surname is unknown. It is only mentioned that the first abbot's Dharma name was 'Lingji'. Master Lingji became a monk at the age of 15 and was ordered to be a disciple of a senior monk. He entered the Fu'an Temple in Chang'an. At the age of 32, he became the first abbot of Baiqingshan Temple. He passed away at the age of 65." Li Erlang remembered it very clearly. "This Master Lingji acted very eccentrically after becoming a monk. He was obsessed with worldly desires. Whether in Chang'an or the northwest, he always drove three carriages when traveling. The front carriage carried scriptures and theories, the middle carriage was for himself, and the back carriage carried prostitutes, maids and food. Therefore, people called him 'the Three-Wheel Master'."

Ji Qingyue was amazed. It seemed that this Lingji master did not follow the six major precepts of being a monk. "Enter the Fu'an Temple in Chang'an?"

Li Sanlang saw that the pancakes were already cooked, the goose meat was soft and the vegetables were tasty. He turned off the fire under the stove and said, "The county history in the academy records that the wealthy merchant who donated to build the Baiqingshan Temple was named Yuchi. Yuchi is an unusual surname."

The food was ready, and the two children were so hungry that their stomachs were growling, so Li Erlang had to pause the conversation and eat first.

In order to make it easier for children to pick up food, he put the food in the iron pot into a large ceramic bowl, and then placed the large ceramic bowl on the charcoal stove. This way, the food would not get cold quickly when they could cook it over low heat while eating in cold weather.

Ji Qingyue set up a simple cloth shed on the bridge and burned a charcoal stove to keep warm. He placed the small pot of goose meat that was allocated to him on the charcoal stove and ate while roasting the fire.

This master of Lingji was most likely born into a wealthy family in Chang'an, or even a noble family.

Yuchi is the surname of the Sai people, and it once became the national surname. As the ethnic groups migrated south into the Central Plains during the integration, the establishment of the Dali Dynasty was inseparable from the contribution of the Yuchi family. Now Yuchi is a duke-level aristocrat in Chang'an.

The nobles of Chang'an traveled thousands of miles to the northwest to build a temple with a very strong purpose. It was obvious that they were just spending money on their hobby.

Master Lingji is most likely a member of the Yuchi family.

At that time, Buddhism was prevalent, and many people were eager to become monks. If all men became monks, the labor force would be reduced, which would affect the foundation of the country. In order to prevent people from becoming monks, the court issued a policy that anyone who wanted to become a monk had to obtain a certificate of ordination from the government. Only with a certificate of ordination could they go to the temple to become a monk. If someone was found to have become a monk without a certificate of ordination, not only the person without a certificate, but also the temple that took him in would be punished.

Today they did not move and ate in the kitchen. As soon as the meal started, the two children stretched out their chopsticks to pick up the soft and tasty goose meat. When they put it in their mouths, they screamed in pain because of the scalding heat. After the scalding temperature dropped, they tasted the rich flavor. "It's delicious!!"

Li Erlang and Li Sanlang no longer bothered to think about the "spiritual master" and devoted themselves to the great cause of eating, constantly reaching out their chopsticks to pick up the dishes in the pottery bowl. "The pancakes are also delicious after soaking in the soup!"

"Yeah!" Li Silang wanted to raise his hands and feet to express his strong agreement.

When they had almost finished eating, there was still a little soup left in the earthenware basin. Several people filled a bowl of rice and poured the soup on it, determined to eat up all the food.

After filling their stomachs, several people collapsed on the stools, not wanting to move.

Li Sanlang spoke first: "The Shandan Biography mentioned this master Lingji. His mother dreamed of a moon in her palm and swallowed it, which made her pregnant. When Lingji was born, the room was filled with red light, and the whole family was delighted."

Li Erlang ate a lot, and rubbed his swollen belly while saying, "Master Lingji has traveled to many places. From his travel notes, we know that he set out from Chang'an at the age of 20 and went west to seek the Dharma. He not only went deep into Beiting and reached Daqin, but also visited India. During that time, he became the abbot of Baiqingshan Temple. He went to India to seek scriptures as the abbot."

At that time, India was a Buddhist holy land. Many monks yearned to go there, and many monks who had the conditions had been there.

"Master Lingji compiled a lot of scriptures throughout his life, removing the dross from the scriptures translated by eminent monks and retaining the essence, and combined them into one book for future generations to study and research." Li Sanlang added: "After Master Lingji passed away, his scriptures were transported back to Chang'an and buried in Fu'an Temple."

Ji Qingyue sat in the shed, deep in thought.

Now we know that the monk Bai Qingshan is the master of Lingji, and may be a member of the Chang'an noble family Yuchi, but this is of little help to him.

Why did he come to the painting, and why can he travel through different paintings? If he can travel through the paintings made by Master Lingji with Bai Qingshan monk, then how many paintings did Master Lingji draw? Where are these paintings?

Li Erlang also thought of this problem. He dug out the travel notes and diary written by Master Lingji from his messy memory. Because he had read too much and remembered too much, the search gave him a headache.

He rubbed his throbbing temples. The answers to these questions must have appeared in a diary!

This master Lingji has two identities. He is not only a master who paints for rich people, but also a free and easy Baiqingshan monk who avoids being sought after. When he paints as Baiqingshan monk, there are usually no specific conditions or special requirements. Sometimes he is inspired by magnificent scenes, sometimes he wakes up from a dream and writes with rich emotions, and sometimes he is depressed and needs to relieve himself...

Just when Li Erlang was about to give up and go to Baiqingshan Temple to climb over the wall again, Ji Qingyue in the painting suddenly remembered a diary with the following words vaguely written at the end: I have translated 58 Buddhist scriptures in my lifetime, 1,132 volumes...

"The monk made five pieces of calligraphy and painting to pay tribute to the Five Prajnas..." He had been flipping through the book for a long time and was very tired. When he got to the end, he was just scanning the text mechanically. But when he got to the end, he paid special attention to the word "Five Prajnas" and wrote down this sentence.

The words that Ji Qingyue suddenly thought of also made Li Erlang realize: "Master Lingji explained the Five Prajnas as: Reality is truth, observation is true wisdom, words are true teachings, relatives are myriad practices, and realms are all dharmas."

Although they did not know what these Buddhist words meant, it did not prevent them from knowing that Master Lingji created five calligraphy and paintings in the identity of Baiqingshan monk.

Thatched cottage, pine forest, salt lake and the calligraphy of "no destruction, no construction"...

Two more paintings and calligraphy are missing.

……

After the night, Ji Qingyue no longer worried about these things and continued to focus on his packing business. Li Erlang sneaked into Baiqingshan Temple again and re-read the travel notes left by Master Lingji, hoping to find clues about the two paintings, especially the route he took when he traveled to the northwest.

Starting from Chang'an, he followed the corridor through Liangzhou and Ganzhou to Yumen Pass. After passing Yumen Pass, he entered an uninhabited area where salt desert and sand were mixed together. He passed the edge of the uninhabited area to Qiuci, crossed the Pamir Mountains and went west to Daqin. That was a place Li Erlang had never been to. The salt lake must be in that vast area.

Ten days later, Ji Qingyue had finally packed all the cotton. Li Erlang negotiated with Manager Zhang of Fengzu Trading Company and rented a merchant ship to transport a batch to Shandan Ferry. He asked the county magistrate's wife for the payment.

The three parties agreed to collect cotton in mid-December. Li Erlang took the scroll and left the city two days in advance. He went out from the west gate and rode west along the gradually desolate road for three hours. He came to a wasteland, and under his feet was the Ruoshui River with fast currents.

In the next few days, the Ruoshui River will be completely frozen. Now floating ice has gradually appeared on the river. Fortunately, the weather has been good in the past few days. If we can hold on for one more day, we can happily welcome the New Year.

Ji Qingyue had of course already figured out how to move a pile of cotton balls as big as a modern car. It was impossible to carry it, so he could only push it.

Ji Qingyue prepared countless long logs, laid them horizontally on the ground, and placed one at short intervals. When the time came, he would push the cotton out along the laid logs.

The two of them cooperated very well, and Li Erlang didn't have to exert much effort. He just had to make sure that the cotton that suddenly appeared had a place to be put and wouldn't hit him.

The two worked for a whole day and a whole night, and Ji Qingyue was exhausted. After the last pile of cotton was unloaded, he was completely exhausted. Without saying a word, he ran home and fell asleep.

Even if the house is on fire don't call him, just destroy it, destroy it all.

Li Erlang knew that Ji Qingyue was very tired. After carefully putting away the scroll, he looked at the eye-catching piles of cotton on the wasteland. He had stacked the cotton into two layers as neatly as possible.

Now we are just waiting for the ship from Fengzu Trading Company.

On the third day, boats slowly appeared downstream of the Ruoshui River. Two boats of medium size struggled to move upstream and took a long time to reach the river bank of the wasteland.

When Manager Zhang's men saw the cotton pile as high as a hill on the wasteland, their eyes widened.

Time was running out and there was no time to be surprised. The leader called on a large group of porters to immediately load piles of cotton onto the merchant ship.

The efficiency of the group of people was indeed higher than Ji Qing's. It only took two people, one in front and one behind, to carry more than a hundred kilograms of cotton. After two hours of enthusiastic work, they finally got all the cotton onto the boat.

The boat went downstream very quickly and returned to Shandan Wharf in less than an hour.

The county magistrate's wife has sent a convoy to wait at the dock so that the cargo can be unloaded as soon as the ship arrives.

At the dock, porters unload goods and convoys transport goods. One truck after another carries the huge but not very heavy cotton into the mountain.

Many people don't know what the carriage is pulling, but quite a few have heard of cotton.

The wharf was in the north. Cars carrying cotton entered the county, made a half circle, and then left the city through the west gate and headed towards a village.

The county magistrate's wife was waiting in the village in person. She would not feel at ease until she saw the cotton being stored in the warehouse.

Waiting with the county magistrate's wife were not only Li A Niang and a few others, but also the village chief and the head of the village. They all came to the scene to witness the cotton being put into storage.

Li Erlang and Ji Qingyue not only found cotton seeds and worked out a method of planting them, they also built a cotton mill and a cloth mill in the village. Finally, they persuaded the county magistrate to plant some cotton here.

Garlic was controlled by the Fengzu Trading Company, and only a few families benefited from it. Cotton was controlled by the county magistrate, and the expansion of the planting area was large enough to benefit many people.

How could Muramasa not be moved when thinking about the good young man in the village?

They have seen the cotton robes worn by the Li family, which are softer and warmer than clothes made of animal hair. The skin of a newborn baby is delicate and will not be irritated by this kind of fabric.

Although Li A'niang was looking forward to the arrival of cotton, she missed her second son even more. She hadn't seen him for half a year and didn't know how he was doing.

As the convoy gradually appeared on the distant road, the people waiting and watching became excited.

Wow! What a long convoy, there must be dozens or even hundreds of cars!

Grandma Li’s eyes were blurry. She patted her eldest daughter-in-law’s hand and asked, “Did Erlang come back with the caravan?”

Aunt Li was also looking forward to it, craning her neck to stare at the convoy slowly approaching: "I haven't seen it yet..."

Li Jinniang, who was beside the two of them, noticed a man riding a horse quickly overtaking a number of carts. The young man waved his whip and ran towards them at an increasingly faster speed.

"It's my second brother!"

Li A Niang also saw it, and after taking another look, she burst into tears of excitement: "He is finally back."

Li Erlang rode his horse quickly to the cotton mill, bowed to the county magistrate's wife first, then hugged A Niang and comforted her softly.

The convoy would not arrive for a while, so Li Erlang took his family to the side and waited, "Is Dad and Big Brother home?"

Grandma Li looked at her grandson lovingly and said, "They are waiting in the warehouse to move the cotton... We thought you two would be back soon, so we were thinking of going to the county in a few days."

"Where is Yuelang? Is he still in the county?" Li A Niang had recovered and was still a little embarrassed after wiping away her tears.

"I've been busy with the cotton business recently and I'm exhausted. I'm afraid I'll need to rest for two or three days." Li Erlang knew Ji Qingyue's habits very well. Before leaving the city, he went home to put down the scroll and followed the convoy.

After hearing that both of them were fine, Li A'niang finally let go of her worries. She quickly told her second son the good news: "Your eldest sister sent a letter a few days ago, saying that she would not be back this year. Guess what happened?" As she spoke, she looked uncontrollably happy.

Li Erlang guessed it instantly and stood there in a daze: "Could it be..."

Aunt Li clapped her second son's hand excitedly and said, "That's it, Zhenniang is pregnant! You're going to be an uncle!!"

"We were planning to go visit Zhenniang after the New Year..." Grandma Li was also very happy that her eldest granddaughter had finally reaped the rewards of her hard work.

At this point, Aunt Li hesitated a little: "After the New Year, your father and elder brother will go to the military camp, but you also..."

Li Erlang nodded helplessly: "I will also go to the barracks after the New Year, so I can't go to see my sister in person. When the time comes, please help me bring some things for my sister and my little nephew."

"Oh……"

As the convoy got closer, Li A Niang had to cheer up.

The warehouse was built very large, large enough to store all the cotton. Not only were there villagers helping with the transportation, but there were also many people watching.

It was already night when all the cotton was stored in the warehouse. In the increasingly strong wind, Li Erlang and his family supported each other and went home.
