In those days of Plants vs. Zombies

Chapter 399 Heroes: The Greatest Hero Serves the Country and the People

Penny followed Yang and Joseph, passed through several alleys, and finally stopped in front of a small courtyard.

As they walked along, Penny clearly felt more than once that there were eyes on the buildings on both sides of the alley watching their actions at all times.

But there was no malice in those gazes. After seeing Yang and Joseph's faces clearly, they would look away.

Thinking about it this way, Penny finally understood who were the owners of those gazes.

After all, with Green Shadow's excellent eyesight, she could still clearly capture those bright red touches in the darkness.

"Please come in, Ms. Green Shadow, this is one of our bases in Hessen County City."

Yang smiled warmly and led Penny into the courtyard, while Joseph pushed the cart towards the depths of the courtyard.

Under Yang's guidance, Penny came to a rather simple reception room.

There are no fancy decorations, just a wooden table and some wooden chairs.

Even the lighting on the ceiling was just a dim incandescent lamp.

“The electricity supply in the slums of Hessen County City is tight, so we just make do with what we have.

Food is in short supply right now, so I can only treat you with hot tea. I hope Ms. Green Shadow will forgive me."

"It's okay. I like tea."

Calling it hot tea is actually just a polite way of saying it.

In fact, what Yang brought to Penny was just boiled water that was freshly boiled and still emitting steam.

Tea is a real luxury in Hesse County, and only the upper-class nobles can enjoy it.

Penny took the boiled water very naturally and sipped it, not showing any sign of discomfort.

But even though the cup of hot water in her hand had boiled, Penny could still taste a hint of bitterness in it.

It was the smell of rust, coming from the slum's rusted water pipes.

Seeing that Penny didn't show any dissatisfaction with this simple hospitality, Yang's liking for her increased a lot.

You know, even these members of the World Communist Party took a long time to adapt to the environment after being sent to Hesse County.

After all, the upper and lower classes in Hesse County are at two extremes, and their living standards are one in heaven and one in hell.

Rich as hell and poor as dirt, this is the best way to describe the current situation of Hesse County.

“Has the environment in the slums always been like this?”

Penny looked at the chipped cup in her hand and raised her head to ask Yang.

"When we arrived at Hessen County, the environment here was so bad, both in terms of living environment and natural environment."

Yang's smile was visibly mixed with a hint of unspeakable bitterness.

“I have seen many common people at the bottom of society, but few of them are more miserable than the people in Hesse County.

The exploitation of the lower classes by this city is unmatched by any other autonomous region or independent city in the federation.

So far, the increasingly serious famine problem has already caused the lower-class people in Hesse County to live in dire straits.

The lower class people have lost their jobs for a living and the food to fill their stomachs. What else do they have to lose?

They do have lives, but they are insignificant in the eyes of those upper-class masters.”

Yang pointed to the ceiling and pointedly explained who was the culprit for the current situation in Hessen County.

Penny opened her mouth, but finally agreed with Yang's statement. What he said was impeccable.

This made her feel ashamed, as she was nominally on the same front as those "upper-class masters", and she quietly clenched the water cup in her hand.

Penny calmed down, seemed to remember something, and continued to ask Yang:

"Mr. Yang is not a native of Hessen County City, right?"

"Indeed, Ms. Green Shadow, I am from Vodkagrad."

"Is it Vodkagrad? I thought it was Long An..."

There was a look of surprise in Penny's eyes. She couldn't connect the scholarly young man in front of her with those Russian men in Vodkagrad.

"You have a stereotype of Vodkagrad. Vodkagrad is not only home to tough men who fight and kill all day long, but also has excellent culture and art."

Yang smiled helplessly, as if he was used to Penny's reaction. It seemed that this was not the first time that he had been misidentified.

"Then why did Mr. Yang come all the way from Vodkagrad to Hesse County?"

Penny was very curious and asked the question that concerned her most.

"It's simple. It's for the people here."

Yang gave his answer and drank the boiled water in the cup.

"What Ms. Green Shadow wants to know is not me, but me, or the organization behind us, right?"

Once again, her thoughts were seen through by the other party. Even Penny had to marvel at Yang's sharp and meticulous thinking.

"This is not something that cannot be discussed. Even though you are now working for the Federation, I believe that Ms. Green Shadow will have her own judgment."

After hesitating for a moment, Penny immediately put on an attitude of listening attentively.

Since the other party is willing to tell everything honestly, she naturally has to show a corresponding attitude.

"I, Joseph, and many other comrades come from an organization called the World Communist United Front..."

······

Through Yang's leisurely narration, Penny learned his origins and also achieved the purpose of her trip.

The reason why demonstrations in Hesse County are so intense now is due to the active participation of members of the World Communist Party.

The SPC brought some food from other autonomous regions or independent cities in the federation and tried its best to alleviate some of the famine problems.

Thanks to the efforts of the World Communist Party, the governments of Longan and Vodkagrad also provided large amounts of food aid to the Hesse County City.

By having members of the World Communist Party planted in the Hesse County government, they can ensure that the aid food is accurately distributed to the people and that it is not caught by corrupt officials.

Even Penny herself, through constant communication and discussion with Yang, developed a great interest in the World Communist Party.

She decided to conceal and downplay the existence of the World Communist Party from the federal government and only report some irrelevant information.

In Penny's opinion, the SPC's approach is very much in line with the ethics of chivalry and is something she should learn from.

The World Communist Party is not a real hero, but it is doing things that are no different from real heroes.

The great man is the country and the people.

Penny had a vague feeling that she seemed to have found a path that was truly suitable for her in the confusion and chaos.

Just as Penny was having a great conversation with Yang, she received a message from Nora.

The reason why Nora contacted Penny was simple. She wanted to give the child she had just rescued to Penny's care.

She was unfamiliar with the place and the only person she could trust was Penny.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Yang, I have something urgent to do and I have to leave as soon as possible."

"That's all right, Ms. Green Shadow. If you need help, our comrades from the World Communist Party will be here at your beck and call."

After hearing what Yang said, Penny's eyes suddenly lit up.

"Mr. Yang has said so, so... why not obey him?"

Yang readily called a few members of the World Communist Party who were around the courtyard, and headed towards the destination with Penny.

"It's good to be able to help."
