Chapter 990 Hawaii's "Enthusiastic" Retention

"You know, even old Tawalla's cooking skills when he was young might not be as good as yours. He was better at making chili sauce. Many of the sauces on the shrimp rice carts here come from his secret recipe."

Danny grabbed a big chicken leg and chewed it with his mouth full of oil and a look of satisfaction. Cheng Hao was obviously a better eater than him. After tearing off a whole chicken wing, he filled himself a big bowl of chicken soup, and then set his eyes on the fried chicken offal next to it that looked even more delicious.

Jack was also very satisfied with today's pot of chicken soup. These Cantonese people didn't know how to raise chickens. Ordinary domestic chickens were usually eaten when they grew to three or four kilograms, but the two he picked weighed more than nine kilograms in total. The training time would be at least two and a half years.

Moreover, he had no idea what breed the chicken was. It looked neither like the common white-feathered chicken in North America, nor did it look like a Rock Chicken (Luhua Chicken).

"It should be a kind of wild chicken on Kauai. They are very adapted to the local environment. Some chicken farmers will mix these chickens with their own chickens to prevent diseases."

Cheng Hao, a local man, was very interested in explaining this to Jack when he heard him talk about this.

About a few hundred years ago, the earliest indigenous people of the Hawaiian Islands, the Polynesians, crossed the vast ocean and first came to this paradise.

They brought crops such as taro and sweet potatoes, as well as livestock and poultry such as dogs, pigs, and chickens.

The chickens raised by the Polynesians were different from the common domestic chickens today. They were closer to the red junglefowl, the ancestor of all modern domestic chickens. They were very small and extremely agile, and with the lack of natural enemies, they quickly multiplied on various islands in Hawaii.

Originally, not many people paid attention to these pheasants. They lived in tropical jungles far away from human habitation, and the lack of food effectively limited their population.

But with two hurricanes in the 1980s and 1990s, many chicken farms and residents' backyards on the island were destroyed, causing a large number of domestic chickens to escape into the wild.

After 2000, people were surprised to find that the number of wild chickens on Kauai had increased greatly, and their size had also increased.

These guys are everywhere on the island, wandering around residential areas, orchards, and even appearing in parking lots.

The residents of Kauai regard these feral chickens as a mascot, printing them on various products, postcards, T-shirts, and even the host of a popular children's TV show was named "Rooster Russell."

"So, these chickens are not protected?" Jack felt relieved after hearing this. He was just buying two chickens, so he didn't want to rip off the Cantonese man who was selling the chickens. The man was very kind and helped him clean the chickens.

"It depends on where you are. If it's in a nature reserve, these chickens are wild chickens and it's forbidden to catch them. But if they run into developed areas or private land, they are considered 'wandering domestic chickens' and can be killed at will."

Kono took two slices of bread and a can of mayonnaise from the refrigerator, and stared at the big pot of chicken soup in front of him with a conflicted look on his face.

"Don't you want to try it?" Jack looked at her doubtfully. There didn't seem to be anything taboo about chicken soup, and considering the girl's age, she shouldn't have gout.

"It looks too greasy." Kono swallowed hard, hesitated for a long time, and finally decided to open the mayonnaise and prepare to spread it on the bread.

"Greasy?" Jack looked at the chicken soup that was covered with a layer of golden oil, which made people's appetite increase at a glance, and then looked at the mayonnaise in Kono's hand, and his forehead was black.

This girl is holding a super calorie bomb and telling me that the chicken soup is too greasy. Is she doing something wrong?

He waved to Kono, took the jar of mayonnaise from her hand and placed it in his palm, and asked seriously, "Do you know what this is made of?"

"Egg yolk. Isn't it?" The girl looked confused. Even Danny and Cheng Hao, who were happily eating chicken nearby, cast curious glances at her.

Jack glanced over the simple kitchenette and found that all the ingredients were available. He sighed and took out a large cup, "Let me show you a magic trick."

He beat two eggs in a cup, and quickly removed the egg whites, leaving only the yolks. Under the stunned gaze of the three people, he poured nearly a pound of salad oil into the cup, added a few tablespoons of sugar and a small amount of salt, vinegar and juice, and then began to stir it quickly.

What surprised them was not Jack's amazing hand speed and endurance that were comparable to that of a whisk, but watching a large cup of delicious mayonnaise being prepared in less than ten minutes.

"Greasy?" Jack scooped a spoonful of the finished product and handed it to Kono, "Try it."

Kono subconsciously stuck out her tongue and licked it, and was surprised to find that the mayonnaise he made tasted almost the same as the one she usually ate.

“Salad dressing, Thousand Island dressing, tartar sauce and all the Western-style sauces you’ve eaten are basically made this way. With the same plate of vegetables, the salad looks very healthy, right?

But if you use Chinese stir-fry method, the actual amount of oil used is less than one-third of this, and sugar is basically not needed. Moreover, after eating a dish of stir-fry, some oil will remain on the plate.

You would lick the sauce, but you certainly wouldn't drink the greasy soup, right?"

Jack poured a large bowl of chicken soup for Kono, and pushed the fried chicken offal, one third of which Cheng Hao had already eaten, towards her. "I used most of the fat from the two chickens to stir-fry this dish of chicken offal. I didn't use any extra cooking oil."

Danny and Chenghao were fine, but Kono was already covering his face, "Oh my God, what can I eat from now on?"

Jack even maliciously shared the ingredients of the cake and cookies, basically clearing out the daily diet of these three people, which caused a wave of protests.

Just as everyone was enjoying the food and joking about how Jack was shot at an unfortunate location, if it was a little more off center, maybe he could stay in Hawaii and be a chef for everyone, Danny's phone rang.

Seeing the incoming call number, he quickly put his index finger to his lips, signaling everyone to be quiet, and then pressed the answer button, "Good evening, Mr. Governor. Okay, no problem, we will leave right away."

"What happened?" Jack saw his expression freeze for a moment, then turn serious, and he had a bad feeling.

Danny looked at Cheng Hao and Kono, and finally turned to Jack with a very stiff neck as if it was rusted, "I heard that you have dealt with the CDC several times?"

When Jack heard the abbreviation CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), his smile froze on his face, and he made a dry joke that wasn't very funny, "Is it too late for me to change my flight to tonight?"

"I think you might have to stay here a while longer." Danny patted his shoulder and picked up his car keys.
