Chapter 1208 The Real Murderer Behind the Scenes
"Are you really willing to help?" Mrs. Chen suddenly stood up from her seat, took out a postcard from behind her daughter's photo on the altar with candles and incense burning, and handed it to Danny.
"I don't know what she was involved in, but Stephanie seemed very anxious recently. Not long ago, she sent me a postcard for no apparent reason. I received it the day after she died."
Danny took the postcard and looked through it. He found that besides the address, there was only a line of strange numbers on it. "What does this string of numbers mean?"
"I don't know, I thought it was a phone number, but it didn't go through." Mrs. Chen shook her head.
Jack took the postcard from Danny and found that the string of numbers was divided into three groups. The first two groups were four digits each, and the last group was three digits, for a total of 11 digits.
American mobile phone numbers usually have 10 digits, but if you count the country code + 1, it is exactly 11 digits. The first digit of this group of numbers is exactly 1, and there is a + sign in front of it. No wonder Mrs. Chen thought it was a mobile phone number.
Could it be that the order of the three groups of numbers has been disrupted? Or is it simply some kind of encryption method?
Jack turned the postcard over in confusion and found that the front was a famous attraction in New York City, the famous Arc de Triomphe-style arch in Washington Square Park, with a welcome message printed on it.
"Ms. Chen, which university did your daughter graduate from?" Danny asked.
"New York University, Mr. Officer." Mrs. Chen answered a little puzzled, not quite understanding the purpose of his question.
Noticing that Danny winked at him as if he had discovered something, Jack wisely did not ask immediately, but took the postcard away after asking Mrs. Chen's consent.
The two left the Chinese medicine shop. Jack handed the postcard back to Danny and asked, "Do you know what this set of numbers means?"
"I think it's probably the index number of the university library." Danny said "probably", but his tone was quite confident.
"Shouldn't the book index number be made up of letters and numbers?" Jack looked at me as if to say, "Don't bully me because I didn't go to college. Community college is also college. Besides, he has been to many major libraries in New York in recent years.
"You're talking about the Library of Congress classification system, but in the Harvard-Yenching Library classification system, the index number is composed entirely of numbers, which means that the book we're looking for is in the Asian literature section."
The barely concealed smugness in Danny's tone gave people the illusion that he was already very proud of himself.
"Wow." Jack expressed his shock a little, then took out his mobile phone to search and found that what Danny said was actually true.
The "Harvard-Yenching Library Classification" he mentioned is not only used in the Harvard-Yenching Library, but is the most commonly used book classification system for Asian or Chinese books in most libraries in English-speaking countries.
After expressing his heartfelt respect for this seemingly rough guy, Jack immediately asked how he knew such unpopular knowledge?
"I have a brother who graduated from Harvard Law School."
Danny shook his head smugly like an Indian, and only revealed the answer after Jack repeatedly questioned him, "Well, I had an ex-girlfriend who studied library management."
Well, this answer is surprising yet very reasonable.
As they were talking, the two drove to Washington Square Park. Most of the buildings around here belong to New York University, including the Bobst Library at the south end of the square.
This library is the largest of the eight main libraries under New York University. It has a total of 8 floors and is said to have a total collection of 12 million books. It is also one of the largest university libraries in the United States.
Going up to the Asian literature area on the fourth floor, Danny went straight to the corresponding bookshelf according to the number on the postcard, and easily found a piece of note paper with his name written on it in a copy of the "Cihai".

After picking up Alexis and her grandmother, Jack returned to the wanted criminals base with the note and was somewhat surprised to find that Frank had not yet come out of the soundproofed interrogation room.
Jack was muttering to himself that the old CIA was not very efficient this time. As a result, just as Jack went upstairs to settle everyone and returned to the kitchen, the big bald man with blood on his hands came over and said, "That guy has spoken, but I forgot to ask before. What do you want to know from him?"
"Are you serious?" Jack, who was preparing sweet and sour sauce for sweet and sour pork, was stunned when he heard this. Then he saw the bald guy started laughing first.
"It was just a joke. That guy gave away his employer, who is indeed a big shot. I hope you are mentally prepared for this." Frank said, looking at the female detective who looked nervous.
Beckett subconsciously grabbed Cassel's arm, and used such force that the latter grimaced but dared not make a sound. He forced an ugly smile and said, "It can't be the current president, right?"
Frank smiled at his silly son, "Not really, but not far off. It's Senator Robert Bracken."
Cassel opened his mouth into an O shape, and then raised his voice an octave higher, "The Bracken who used to be the Undersecretary of State?"
"Well, just two weeks ago, there were rumors that Bracken would be officially nominated by the Donkey Party as the next vice presidential candidate." Frank said in a relaxed tone as if he was discussing what to eat tonight.
"That seems to make sense." Jack washed his hands, opened his tablet and directly pulled up the person's resume on Wikipedia.
“Nineteen years ago, Bracken served as an assistant district attorney in New York State, and the timeline coincides with the time period when Montgomery and his three companions kidnapped gang members.
This is consistent with the information we currently know. He must have learned about the actions of the three people through some channels, but did not choose to accuse them. After all, the possibility of those gang members testifying against the police is very small.
So he chose to go along with the gang and managed to get a big share of the ransom."
Cassel added, "He was able to rise rapidly afterwards, entering the House of Representatives in less than ten years, and then gradually climbed up to become a senator. This should have been due to the money.
After all, this was millions of dollars 19 years ago, which is not a small amount of money.”
"That explains why he's so fixated on your mother's case. It's a huge scandal, and he has to make sure everyone who knows about it is shut up before the campaign starts."
Frank looked at his future daughter-in-law with burning eyes, "So we have to take him down."
Beckett didn't know the true relationship between the bald guy and Cassel, and was puzzled by his strange look. At the same time, Cassel's cell phone suddenly rang.
