Chapter 1179 The murderer calls (Part )

The phone continued to ring, and Jack had called Alice's cell phone and asked her to track the call immediately.

However, before Jiejie picked up the phone, the answering machine was connected. After a beep, a soft female voice sounded, "Jack, I know you are there, answer the phone."

Everyone looked at someone in unison. Just when Jack was wondering if this might be some kind of coincidence, the voice said his full name with certainty, "Jack Tawalla, no doubt, it's you, pick up the phone."

"Although we notified the security company about the security device on the door lock, the other party may have known that someone had entered their home through a mobile phone app or computer."

Aubrey's explanation could explain the perfect timing of the call, but the question on everyone's mind was, why could she call out Jack's full name?

In a flash, there was not much time left for everyone to think. Jack handed his mobile phone to Hannah, made a countdown gesture of 321 to others, and then pressed the hands-free button.

"Hello. Who is this?"

"I thought I could count on you, Jack." When the woman spoke again, she no longer had the slightly provocative tone as before, but instead a little sad?

"What do you expect from me? Find you or make it public?" Jack felt that the other party's voice was somewhat familiar. Although the phone would cause distortion, he had definitely heard this voice not long ago.

The other party did not directly answer Jack's question, but continued, "Please forgive me for searching your name on the Internet without your permission. To be honest, there is not much information about you. I am surprised at your youth and low profile.

I'm curious about what you did to deserve a distinguished Presidential Medal of Freedom, which I know you haven't received yet, but your name is on the list released by the White House."

Jack's mind raced as he imagined all sorts of possibilities, and he said modestly, "I'm just doing my job. It's an honor to have the attention of a lady like you."

"I once thought you were a hero, Jack, an upright knight." The woman continued speaking in a slightly sad tone.

"Especially when I saw you on TV this morning, at the press conference about the shooting last night, for a moment I thought there might actually be good people in this world."

Hearing the other party choking up a little when saying the last few words, Jack suddenly had an idea and guessed why the other party said that, but he deliberately diverted the topic to another direction.

"So you feel that I have let you down because you discovered that I, like the other men in your life, have been cheating on my wife, or have been cruel to my ex-wife and children, and therefore I need to be punished?"

The woman on the other end of the phone was silent for a moment, as if she was a little surprised, but she didn't seem to care that much. She chuckled and said, "So you are this kind of person too?"

"Of course not. I'm not married yet and I don't have any children. Single life is so wonderful. There's no reason for me to give up so early, right?"

Facing the slightly complicated looks from Hannah and Jiejie, as well as the expressions of others who were looking forward to the show, Jack pulled the corners of his mouth with difficulty, saying that he was doing this just to fool the suspect and buy time.

"So you must have had many girlfriends? Did you pay them for that kind of thing?" the woman continued to ask.

This question was a bit insulting to Jack. "Do you think I'm that kind of person? I admit that I have had, uh... a lot of special female friends, but our relationship does not involve money."

Although he felt somewhat inexplicably guilty in the middle of the speech, his last sentence was quite justified.

"So you are not the kind of man who would date me. No wonder you rejected me then." This inexplicable feeling suddenly made Jack realize who the other person was.

Hannah's beautiful eyes widened as she looked like she wanted to call the suspect to task, but she was afraid of alerting the suspect so she didn't dare to say a word.

Jack made a gesture for everyone to be quiet and listen. Almost everyone moved closer to the phone and clearly heard a man making frightened grunts, as if his mouth was blocked.

While raising his hand to signal Aubrey to continue urging Alice to speed up the process, Jack asked cautiously, "So what kind of person do you think I am?"

"A bitch like me!" The other party's answer was somewhat unexpected.

Jack laughed instead of getting angry, "What do you mean?"

"Some people can call you over with just one phone call and ask you to help clean up their mess. Maybe you are really capable, but in front of those powerful people you can only wag your tail and beg for mercy, hoping that they will let a little bit of leftovers slip through their fingers."

The other party seemed to have misunderstood something, but before Jack could answer, Aubrey showed the phone screen in front of him, showing the identity of the owner of the incoming call number.

Trent Rabb, 48, is a Texas rancher who made a fortune when he was young after discovering oil under the ranch left to him by his parents.

Although Jack didn't have Red's terrifying reading speed, it was still far beyond that of ordinary people. He read through the information almost at a glance, and then frowned.

According to the information, Trent Raab has no children and is very much in love with his wife. Unfortunately, his wife died of cancer a year ago and he has been single ever since.

Although the information sent by Alice was a bit rough, it was obvious that Tranter Raab was not the kind of scumbag rich man that the suspect hated.

Was it that their previous profile was wrong, their speculation about the motive for the crime was wrong, or did the suspect change her target?

However, before Jack could think about it, a suspicious woman's voice came from the other end of the phone, "Jack? Are you still there?"

"Of course." Jack replied quickly, "I'm just a little shocked that I have such an image of myself in my mind, but words are not enough, and I believe you don't want to hear my detailed explanation of why I came to Dallas to participate in your case.

Because no matter what, I've let you down, haven't I?"

"Go on." The woman sighed.

"You want to let the world see the shameless faces of some people and make some things public. Originally, my investigation may have played into your hands and let all the truth come to light.

And yet there has been no movement in the media these days, and that makes you angry, right?"

The sound of a woman sobbing was heard again on the other end of the line, and at the same time, the FBI also heard more clearly a man's terrified gasps and groans.

A moment later, accompanied by the sound of the pistol hammer being pulled down, the woman's voice became cold and grim, "Have I ever told you that you are smart, Agent Tawole? But do you dare to admit that you are really just here to investigate the case?"
