Chapter 1153 Another Navy SEAL
Chapter 1153 Another Navy SEAL
Jack noticed that the girl's palms and knees were covered in dried blood.
Although he has experienced so many cases, it is still hard for him to imagine how tragic it is for a ten-year-old girl to return home happily only to see her mother lying in a pool of blood.
"Is this your fortress, soldier? Did you build it yourself?" Jack squatted in front of the girl, trying to act like a kind and amiable older brother.
The alertness on the little girl's face was finally not as strong as before, and she responded, "My father helped me build this. Did you find him?"
Jack pretended to check the time. In fact, they came in a hurry this time. NCIS was still busy searching for survivors and rescuing data servers in the half-collapsed building.
In other words, no help can be provided over there for the time being.
Under normal circumstances, if the wanted criminal team contacted the state police or local police station directly, things would be simpler.
At least it wouldn't be the situation they had when they came here, where they were completely in the dark and didn't get any useful information except the address of the crime scene during the entire flight from New York.
Fortunately, only a little time was wasted. When they got off the plane, Alice went directly to the police station in the local town.
In fact, let alone the FBI, even the local state police and town police were confused just now. It was clearly stated that NCIS would take over the case because it involved suspected navy soldiers and their families, but the ones who came were a group of FBI.
After a reconfirmation of jurisdiction, Alice was able to get a meeting room at the police station and settle down until Jack and Jubal finished questioning the neighbors.
"Don't worry, we will help you meet him soon." In fact, until now Jack still hasn't figured out which department or unit of the Navy the girl's father, Lieutenant Colonel Barnes, belongs to.
But he didn't want to lie to a ten-year-old girl, so he used a more euphemistic approach.
This little girl named Rachel was much smarter and more mature than Jack had imagined. When he heard this, the light that had just lit up in her eyes dimmed again.
“Please don’t let me leave here.” The little girl pleaded softly, “I will be safe hiding here. Even if they come back, they can’t hurt me.”
"Who are 'they'? Rachel." Jubal's face darkened and he asked quickly.
"Those bad guys who wanted to kill my dad." The little girl's innocent big eyes were full of fear.

In the meeting room of the small town police station, Clay and Hannah arrived late.
"The victim, Valerie Barnes, is a clinical psychologist at a psychological counseling service in Richmond. She is half a colleague of you and Jack."
Hannah took the purified water that Jiejie handed to her, and without even saying thank you, she drank the entire bottle in just a few gulps.
“After asking around the neighbors, Clay and I went to her workplace and talked to her co-workers.
Valerie's colleagues describe her as a nice person, and no one has had any problems with her recently, including her patients."
"I'm here to contact the judge and I need to get all her medical records." Jubal took the initiative to take on the task.
"Where is her husband, Commander Barnes? Has the Navy declassified the files?" Jack looked at Alice who was busy with her work with her head down.
They waited until people from the child welfare department came and took the little girl Rachel away before leaving. Alice's work was still not going smoothly as the navy had not yet synchronized the data.
Alice replied without even looking up, "Just received, Ryan Barnes is a commander of the Navy SEALs, more information will take time to sync up.
But he is currently undergoing survival training in a counter-terrorism operation group. I have already notified him and he should be here tonight."
She used the word "SEAL", which meant that Lieutenant Commander Barnes was a general SEAL belonging to the Naval Special Operations Group, not SEAL Team 6 where Clay was previously.
Clay's face showed an expression of no surprise. Only the identities of special forces members needed to go through so many levels of approval before they could be declassified, which delayed for such a long time.
The printer squeaked out a few A4 sheets of paper. Aubrey picked them up and quickly flipped through them with a strange expression. "Another commander with outstanding achievements. He successfully carried out nearly 20 missions during his time as a SEAL."
"Put away those offensive thoughts in your mind." Clay looked at the boy dangerously, "Not every SEAL is a murderer. Our guns will always be pointed at the enemy."
"That's not what I meant. I respect all the soldiers who serve their country." What really threatened Aubrey was not Clay's fierce eyes, but his thick arms with bulging veins.
Three of the seven members of the team are women, and Jubal is the commander and is a bit older, so during normal training, only Jack and Aubrey can really be Clay's opponents.
In this matter, Aubrey and Jack are on equal footing. After all, one can't be defeated by anyone, and the other can't be defeated by anyone either.
So it was natural that he was the one who received the most punches from Clay, even though he was wearing protective gear.
It was just that the first case they handled for NCIS not long ago, the murderer was a retired Navy SEAL veteran, so it was no wonder that Aubrey's expression was so strange.
Jubal thought of another possibility. "Is it possible that the murderer's real target was actually Lieutenant Colonel Barnes? Did the murderer kill his wife just to vent his anger?"
Everyone immediately thought of what the little girl had said before, and Jack asked in detail, but unfortunately one couldn't expect a ten-year-old girl to know too much.
Rachel told the FBI that she learned from her parents' conversation that her father had recently received some kind of threat because of "work" matters, and her mother was very worried about it.
Jack looked at Clay and saw that he was frowning and silent. He was also not very sure. "From the perspective of the murder method, it is unlikely, but we can't completely rule out this possibility."
"I'll prepare a safe house right away." Clay understood.
"I think your guess makes sense." Alice suddenly said at this time.
"While I was waiting for NCIS to sync the files, I looked up the name Ryan Barnes on the Internet and easily found out that he was a Navy SEAL."
"This is impossible! Whether it's SEAL Team Six or ordinary SEALs, the identity of every member is strictly confidential." Clay quickly walked behind Alice and looked at the computer screen in front of her.
