Chapter 90 Huang Tingjuan’s Conversion

These days, there are more opportunities for study, exchange, and inspection in the college.

The entire month of June has simply become the month of foreign exchange activities.

All the teachers in the gardening major went out for a walk, either far or near.

Fang Chen dislikes business trips the most. Because traveling will disrupt her life and work rhythm, she has to adjust classes and make up classes, which is very troublesome, and she often has to go for several days. Picking up her children is a problem, and there is no one to take care of the elderly, which is very difficult to handle.

However, it is impossible not to go.

Fang Chen muttered to his colleagues, "I don't want to go on a business trip, it's too much trouble!" The colleague rolled his eyes at her, "You're getting an advantage and you're so good!"

Fang Chen was arranged to be in a group with Chen Gaofeng, Yang Mingquan and Wan Fangfang. Their group was personally led by Director Wang Huadong, and they went to the Magic City, which was relatively far away. It took them four days to go back and forth.

After this trip, not only was I tired, but I also felt awkward and uncomfortable. Fang Chen regretted it so much that he might as well not go. I had made up my mind at the beginning that I wasn’t going to go, so I couldn’t force myself to go.

Then, there is the hectic final exam.

Fang Chen completely forgot about reciting the Ksitigarbha Sutra.

It’s summer vacation in a flash!

July 2013, [-], which is the [-]th day of the sixth lunar month, is the day when Guanyin Bodhisattva became enlightened.

Early that morning, just after dawn, Fang Chen got on the bus.

Today is the day that Huang Tingjuan converted. At her invitation, Fang Chen came to watch the ceremony and accompany his friend to witness this extraordinary moment.

Regarding Huang Tingjuan's conversion, Fang Chen tried to dissuade her many times, but each time he failed to convince Huang Tingjuan, but was persuaded by her.

At first, Huang Tingjuan mentioned that she wanted to convert to Buddhism, but this frightened Fang Chen so much that she thought that Huang Tingjuan had been stimulated by something and wanted to become a nun and live the life of the Qingdeng Ancient Temple. As a good friend, of course I wanted to bring her back to a normal life, so I tried my best to dissuade her. It was through repeated persuasion that Fang Chen gradually understood that converting to Buddhism is not the same as becoming a monk. It is just a formal procedure for becoming a Buddhist believer. It is completely possible to live a secular life as a lay disciple and lead Buddhist monks. Practice. Knowing this, Fang Chen felt relieved. What a pity it would be if Huang Tingjuan's long black hair was shaved off!

Arrive at Guangji Temple. I saw Huang Tingjuan in the crowd from a distance.

Huang Tingjuan has outstanding appearance and can always be seen in the crowd. Although she was only wearing a dark gray cotton and linen casual outfit today, she had such a holy feeling, as if she was enveloped in a glow.

The ceremony hadn't started yet, and many volunteers were busy setting up futons. Huang Tingjuan pulled Fang Chen to join in. With more people working faster, everything was set up in no time.

"Will there be so many people?" Fang Chen couldn't help but ask Huang Tingjuan as he looked at the rows and rows of futons placed from the high platform of the main hall to the courtyard below.

"Yes, there are many people at every conversion ceremony. This time, more than [-] people have converted! There are also many believers attending the Dharma conference." Before Huang Tingjuan could say anything, a volunteer wearing a yellow T-shirt stood beside He said with a smile while wiping his sweat.

This was really unexpected. I thought it was just a few people, but I didn’t expect there to be so many.

The ceremony is about to begin, and there are lay volunteers wearing sea blue, leading the disciples who are about to convert, lining up to enter the Bodhi Gate, where there will be monks talking and giving instructions to these new disciples. Huang Tingjuan walked into the Bodhi Gate step by step in the queue.

Fang Chen, who was waiting outside, chatted with the yellow T-shirt volunteer.

It turns out that in the past two years, more and more people have converted to Buddhism, so much so that many refuge Dharma meetings are held every year, which was unimaginable in previous years.

There are two types of refuge. One is to become a monk in a temple. One is to practice at home, that is, to be a lay disciple.

However, today's masters generally advise disciples who are about to convert to practice in the world of mortals, that is, to live a normal social life, but focus on Buddha and restrain themselves as Buddhist disciples everywhere. This is a lay disciple.

Lay disciples who take refuge are called lay disciples and are issued a refuge certificate. In the monastery, lay people will be assigned masters, and they will be given Dharma names based on lay names. Lay disciples do not need to engage in various religious activities in normal life. They only need to go to the temple regularly to find their masters and receive enlightenment.

After participating in the Three Jewels Refuge Ceremony, you will receive a refuge certificate. After that, you can voluntarily participate in regular Buddhist activities as a lay Buddhist.

In short, taking refuge is only the first step in entering Buddhism.

As he spoke, the magnificent refuge ceremony began.

The sound of chanting was heard.

Welcoming the refuge master, the refuge master ascends to the throne.

Worship Buddha.

Ask for refuge.

The great monk said.

Holy please.

repent.

Be converted.

Generate bodhicitta.

Pariṇāmanā.

It took a full three hours for the solemn and grand ceremony of taking refuge in the Three Jewels to be completed. The entire ceremony was carried out with the chanting of monks and believers. Although he could not hear the content clearly, Fang Chen found it very pleasant. There was a cool and comfortable feeling throughout his body, and he felt that his body and mind were pure and far away from the hustle and bustle.

After taking the Three Refugees and Five Precepts, Huang Tingjuan received a purple-red gilded refuge certificate with the Dharma name Hongjuan on it.

From then on, Huang Tingjuan became a lay practitioner of Hongjuan.
