Chapter 207 Examination Procedures
Finally, when they watched the last classmate enter the examination room, Qian Xiaoxiao and the female classmates were completely relieved.
"Teacher, let's go back, they have gone in too."
There were more and more people at the scene, and the sky was already turning white.
They have been standing here for almost two hours.
"Well, let's go back first and pick them up tomorrow."
Gongyuan is in the East District, only twenty minutes away from the South District.
When the students walked into the examination room, they were all confused.
How is this different from what's shown on TV?
After the inspection, the candidates entered the palace according to their numbers. After entering the palace, the gates of each lane were locked. At the same time, the gates were closed with the sound of cannons.
The imperial examinations are divided according to the sky and the earth. Generally, there is the examination booth in the front, and the place where the invigilators stay and review the examination is in the back.
The entire examination room faces south, and each row of examination booths is numbered with the color of heaven and earth. There are about a hundred booths, all facing south to form a long alley.
The alley is more than four feet wide. There is a gate at the entrance of the alley. The lintel wall has a large inscription in Xuanhuang characters of Tiandi.
The examination booths have no doors and are separated by brick walls.
After entering the examination room, candidates need to hang an oilcloth as a curtain to protect them from wind and rain.
The examination booth is six feet high, and you can touch the eaves with your hands. It is four feet deep and three feet wide.
There are upper and lower sills on both sides of the side wall, which can support wooden boards. The upper board is used as a table and the lower board is used as a stool. At night, the upper board can be pulled out and put into the lower floor to make a couch.
The toilet is at the end of the alley.
There are soldiers in the examination room who are responsible for fetching water and making fire. They are called buglers. One bugler is in charge of the chores of 20 candidates.
Everything about sitting, lying, writing, eating, and "convenience" are all within this small world.
At night, the examination shed is a long alley, and the wind and rain cannot protect it, making it even colder than outside.
The conditions are very crude.
But students can reach the sky in one step through this place.
After ten years of hard work, it only took a few hours in Gongyuan to be verified. Among them, there are many people who will move into official careers, and some who will lose their reputation.
There are five county examinations, the first on the ninth day of the lunar month, the second on the [-]th, the third on the [-]th, the fourth on the [-]th, and the fifth on the [-]st.
Each show requires roll call on the first day, namely the eighth, eleventh, fourteenth, seventeenth and twentieth days of the lunar month.
The papers will be handed in one day after each game, that is, the tenth, thirteenth, sixteenth, nineteenth and twenty-second of the lunar month.
On the day of appearance, the person who has completed ten rolls opens the gate once, which is called placing cards.
After release, the door will be closed again.
Generally, the first card is placed before noon, the second card is placed in the afternoon, and the third card is placed in the evening, and then the door is no longer closed.
The venue will be cleared at Xu time ([-] to [-] p.m.).
The students entered the examination room, embedded the first wooden board into the wall, and began to pack up the things they had brought.
This time, no one was sitting in the alley with a "stinky number".
Those numbers near the huts are called "stinky numbers", and you'll know what they mean just by listening to their names.
At this time, there were already many people entering the examination room. Everyone was busy, and some were just sitting there in a daze watching others clean up.
"Hey, hey, hey, I heard you guys are from the Shuren Private School." The person opposite Lin Haohao called him softly.
Lin Haohao raised his head and glanced at him, then looked at the bugler outside the alley: "Yes, where are you from?"
"I......"
"Don't talk, be quiet."
The two curled their lips and continued to clean up.
Students who want to leap over the dragon's gate through reading must go through various examinations such as county examination, prefecture examination, township examination, joint examination and palace examination.
The first exam: County exam
It is presided over by the county magistrate of the county where the candidate is located, and the examination is usually held in February of the lunar calendar every year.
Candidates who pass the county examination are qualified to take the government examination and are collectively called children.
The second exam: government exam
It is presided over by the prefect, and the examination is usually held in April of each year in the lunar calendar.
Candidates who pass the government examination are qualified to take the college examination and are collectively called students or scholars.
Even if a student or scholar has achieved fame, he does not need to join the army or kneel in court.
The third exam: Provincial Examination
An examination is held every three years in various state capitals (including the capital). It is also called Qiuwei because it is held on the ninth, twelfth and fifteenth days of the eighth lunar month in autumn.
The examiner is appointed by the emperor.
After the examination, the main and deputy lists are released. The person selected for the main list is called Juren, and the first place is called Jieyuan.
The fourth exam: General examination
An examination is held in Kyoto every three years. It is also called Chunwei because it is held on the ninth, twelfth and fifteenth day of the second month of the spring lunar calendar.
The examination was presided over by the Ministry of Rites, and the emperor appointed presidents and vice-presidents. All candidates from various states and Imperial College students could take the examination. Three hundred people were admitted as tribute scholars, and the first one was named Huiyuan.
The fifth exam: Imperial Examination
The palace examination is the highest level examination in the imperial examination system. The emperor personally questioned the tributes admitted in the imperial examination to determine the first place.
In fact, the emperor sometimes appointed ministers to be in charge of palace examinations, but did not personally conduct inquiries.
Admissions are divided into three categories: first, third, and third, and the title of "Jinshi and No." is given, and the first one is called the number one scholar.
The second place was ranked second.
The third name is Tanhua.
There are several names in Erjia, which are given the title of "Jinshi origin";
Several names in the top three are given the title of "from the same background as Jinshi".
The first place finishers in the second and third place are all called Chuanlu.
The first, second and third graders are collectively called Jinshi.
After ten years of hard work in writing and swordsmanship in the cold window, I hope to win the cinnamon branches from the Toad Palace.
The scholar finally successfully passed all the exams and won the title of "Jinshi". Learn the art of culture and martial arts, and bring goods to the emperor's family.
So what is the next step to becoming an official?
Entered the Hanlin Academy
The number one scholar entered the Hanlin Academy, and the official position was assigned to compilation from the sixth rank, which was one level higher than the county magistrate.
The second best person in the rankings entered the Hanlin Academy, and was awarded the official rank of Seventh Grade Editor.
Although their grades are not high, the No. [-], No. [-], and No. [-] picks have the qualifications to be selected as certain officials and to enter the top management of the central government, so they have a better way out.
Shujishi
Other Jinshi took another imperial examination, mainly to select Shujishi.
Outstanding Jinshi were selected from the imperial examination as Shujishi and studied in the Common Hall. At the end of the three-year period, they were examined and assigned work, which was called disbanding the hall.
授官
For Jinshi who are not admitted as Shujishi, their grades are mainly six or seven grades, and the most awarded officials are in two forms: one is the head of the ministry, the lowest official among division-level officials, the sixth grade;
The second is to be awarded to the county magistrate, which is the seventh rank.
There are the most vacancies for chief officials and county magistrates, and they are all in the learning stage. The magistrates awarded to counties by Jinshi are also conferred to some counties with simple vacancies. After three years, they will be transferred to counties with more important vacancies as magistrates.
