Chinese medicine: from rural hospitals to top three hospitals in Kyoto
Chapter 505: Toe Ulceration
Wen Manlu drove to the hospital today.
After parking the car in the hospital's open-air parking lot, Wen Manlu walked towards the emergency department.
In the open space next to the outpatient building, several children were laughing and playing. Wen Manlu walked by with a smile on her face, and she couldn't help but think of Hanhan.
In fact, Wen Manlu couldn’t say that she liked children before, nor could she say that she hated children. Although there were several brothers in the family, none of them was ambitious. Even the oldest one, Wen Haoxue, was not married yet and only had a girlfriend. Let alone the others.
Because there were no children at home, Wen Manlu did not have many opportunities to interact with children. Hanhan was one of the few children that Wen Manlu interacted with. At first, Wen Manlu did not dislike Hanhan just because she was a girl, very cute, and sweet-spoken, just like she did not dislike Chen Yang.
Gradually, she began to like him. In fact, Wen Manlu liked Hanhan before she liked Chen Yang.
Suddenly, one of the children who were chasing and playing fell down and lay motionless on the ground.
The child's mother and father hurried over.
"Beans, beans."
The child's mother's voice has changed a little.
Seeing this, Wen Manlu walked over quickly. The child was already in the mother's arms, face up. Wen Manlu saw at a glance that the child's face was bruised, with an expression of pain and difficulty breathing.
"doctor."
The child’s father picked up the child and went to see a doctor, after all, this was the hospital.
"Don't worry, let me take a look."
Wen Manlu shouted hurriedly, then squatted down.
"It's okay, don't be afraid."
As Wen Manlu spoke, she grabbed the child's hand and began massaging the Lieque point on the hand. After a short while, the child's breathing became deep and the dark bruises on his face gradually turned red.
Lieque point controls lung qi, and the lung controls the thorax, which is responsible for dispersing and descending qi. The child's condition was caused by a sudden fall, which caused lung qi stagnation and poor dispersal. Last time in the Summer Palace, the young boy who was hit in the chest would not stop coughing, and Chen Yang also treated him by massaging the Lieque point.
"Okay, it's okay, let the child take a break."
Wen Manlu smiled and said to the child's mother: "You should be more careful in the future. There are many people and cars in the hospital."
"Thank you, thank you."
The child's mother thanked him repeatedly.
"You're welcome. I'm also a doctor in the hospital. It's my duty."
Wen Manlu smiled and walked towards the emergency department.
In the emergency department, Gao Jingyun took Chen Yang and Zeng Yunhui to the observation room to understand the situation.
"The emergency department of our hospital was established in the early 1980s. Today, it is a leader among emergency departments in traditional Chinese medicine hospitals. The department is characterized by the combination of traditional Chinese and Western medicine and comprehensive treatment of various critical illnesses..."
As they walked, Gao Jingyun introduced Chen Yang and Zeng Yunhui.
"At present, our department mainly focuses on internal medicine emergency, supplemented by surgical emergency. We have emergency pediatrics, surgery, trauma orthopedics, gynecology, and anesthesia as supporting emergency systems, with a model that focuses on traditional Chinese medicine emergency and combines it with modern medical emergency."
The night before yesterday, Chen Yang had a general understanding of the emergency department. What Gao Jingyun said was actually the official discourse, saying that Chinese medicine emergency treatment was the main method, supplemented by modern medicine emergency treatment. In fact, modern medicine was still the main method, supplemented by Chinese medicine.
One thing we have to admit is that although Chinese medicine is not inferior to Western medicine in emergency treatment and is indeed good at some aspects, there are very few doctors who have a certain level of expertise in the emergency field.
TCM emergency treatment is particularly challenging for doctors’ courage. Unless they are senior TCM practitioners who have been dealing with critically ill patients for many years, most TCM practitioners will be at a loss when faced with critically ill patients.
Especially in the field of modern medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine has been basically and one-sidedly classified as internal medicine. From graduation to clinical practice, most TCM students have very few opportunities to come into contact with emergency departments. Many TCM students classify themselves as internists, and they consider it good enough if they can treat some common and chronic diseases.
Because of the current situation of traditional Chinese medicine, many hospitals are even promoting the advantages of traditional Chinese medicine in preventing diseases, and gradually exaggerating the role of traditional Chinese medicine in prevention and conditioning.
Of course, TCM is indeed very effective in preventing diseases, but such publicity or cultivation actually deprives TCM of its potential in other fields.
The growth of any doctor requires a large number of patients. Without patients, the growth of doctors will be limited, depriving traditional Chinese medicine from its ability to treat critical and severe diseases. The traditional Chinese medicine doctors who grow up will have congenital deficiencies.
That night, there were only three internal medicine doctors and one surgeon on duty in the emergency department. There was also a doctor on duty in the trauma and orthopedics department, plus a deputy director and the chief resident on duty.
Of course, this lineup is pretty good, after all, it’s just the evening shift.
A few people had just come out of the observation room when Gao Jingyun's eyes lit up and he was stunned. Zeng Yunhui also looked forward.
Wen Manlu was walking towards this side, and after seeing Chen Yang, she quickened her pace.
"Literature girl."
Gao Jingyun greeted Wen Manlu.
"Hello, senior."
Wen Manlu also greeted Gao Jingyun and stood next to Chen Yang naturally.
"I thought you wouldn't come in the morning." Chen Yang said with a smile.
"I just met a few kids playing outside, and one of them fell down and got a stitch in the side." Wen Manlu said.
As they were talking, a nurse came over and said, "Boss Gao, we want you to go to the Orthopedics Department."
Chen Yang and two others followed Gao Jingyun to the Orthopedics Department. The Orthopedics Department and ICU are both affiliated to the Emergency Department. To be precise, the Emergency Department of Kyoto University of Chinese Medicine Hospital should be called the Emergency Department, which has several small departments under its jurisdiction, including emergency pediatrics, gynecology, trauma orthopedics, and ICU.
Therefore, Si Zhenhua, the director of the emergency department, still has a very heavy responsibility.
There are quite a lot of doctors on duty in the trauma and orthopedics department during the day. The one who called Gao Jingyun is an associate chief physician named Ren Hongbo.
"Director Ren, please call me." Gao Jingyun asked politely.
"There is a patient here with diabetes and toe ulcer. The wound has been there for several months and has not healed. Please arrange a bed for him." Ren Hongbo ordered.
"Okay." Gao Jingyun responded quickly.
A middle-aged man in his forties was sitting next to him, and next to him was a woman of similar age. The middle-aged man's feet were wrapped, but Chen Yang could clearly see that the middle-aged man's legs were black from the knees down.
Ren Hongbo did not speak to Chen Yang and the other two. He just gave instructions to Gao Jingyun and went on with his work. Gao Jingyun checked the beds and completed the hospitalization procedures for the patient.
After the patient was admitted, Chen Yang, Zeng Yunhui and Wen Manlu went to the bedside to check the patient's wounds.
"You can take a look, but don't interfere. Director Ren is not easy to deal with." Gao Jingyun reminded.
