Chapter 13: Portraits in the Common Room

"Watch your feet!"

The Hufflepuff prefects loudly alerted the new students behind them as they entered the common room via the stairs.

After the dinner, with the teachers and students in the school resisting, Dumbledore led everyone in singing the school song, and Arthur saw that Snape didn't even open his mouth.

I have to admit that the musical atmosphere at Hogwarts is indeed very strong, but the sad thing is that no one is good at music!

Whether it’s the embarrassing song of the Sorting Hat or the school song of The Devil’s Cry and Wolf’s Howl, it all illustrates this point.

The Hufflepuffs followed the prefects to the spiral staircase, where they were separated from the other houses. Arthur saw Nesta looking over here. He waved and said, "See you tomorrow, Nesta." Star!”

Nesta also said hello and walked up to the tower.

The Hufflepuff common room is located underground. Arthur followed the group further down. Soon, they came to a corridor. In the corner on the right was a pile of large wooden barrels placed on a dark stone trough.

"This is the entrance to the common room," the prefect said, pointing to the barrels. "Unlike other colleges, we don't need passwords or complicated riddles to enter here. We only need to tap the second one in the second row of this pile of large barrels. Bottom of the barrel, to the tune of 'Helga Hufflepuff.'"

The prefect took out his wand and struck it using the method just mentioned.

The lid suddenly began to rotate and a passage opened.

"Don't knock it wrong, otherwise the bucket next to you will pour vinegar all over your body!" the prefect reminded, "Okay, let's go in now."

Arthur climbed into the passage behind Cedric, and then, completely different from the dark and damp basement they imagined, a spacious and bright room appeared in their sight!

The large room is circular in shape and is decorated with yellow and black. There are clusters of green plants hanging from the ceiling, and the air inside is very fresh.

There is a circle of soft-seat sofas around the room, and several long tables in the center.Several corners of the table are filled with interesting bonsai.

There is also a large honey-colored wooden mantelpiece with a carved badger against the wall, and a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff, the founder of the house, hangs above the fireplace.

She held a wand in her right hand and a golden cup in her left hand, with a kind smile on her face.

The freshmen entered the common room one after another. The prefect gave a few more instructions to pay attention to, and then returned to their dormitories.

Arthur stood in the living room, looking at the casual and relaxed layout, and breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that Hufflepuff's common room was still worthy of praise!

"Look, that's honeymoon grass!" Cedric said, pointing to the plant hanging on the ceiling. "Its smell can make people feel peaceful."

Arthur sniffed it, and there was indeed a fresh aroma. He asked, "Did Professor Sprout get this?"

"Yes, Professor Sprout often decorates this place with some precious plants. These are all her masterpieces!" Cedric had a proud smile on his face, and it seemed that he loved his dean very much.

"It's pretty good." Arthur also smiled and agreed. He has no interest in these plants at the moment.

"Okay, Arthur. Take a good rest today! Class will start tomorrow, and you definitely don't want to be late for the first class!" Cedric patted Arthur on the shoulder.

"Yeah, that would leave a bad impression," Arthur said.

"good night!"

"Goodnight Cedric!"

When Arthur walked into the freshman dormitory, there were already three boys sitting and chatting.

They are Arthur's roommates and have met at the party before. They are Ramiro Luz, Ful Corral and Negan Bellomo. Except for Negan, who is a mixed-blood, the others are all Muggles.

"Hi, everyone."

"Hi, Arthur! Your bed is over there." Foer said, pointing to the four-poster bed by the window. Arthur's luggage had been neatly stacked by the table.

"Okay Ful, thank you!"

Arthur thanked him and began to pack his suitcase.

At this time, Negan took out a square box and said to them: "Can you play wizard chess?"

Arthur glanced at him and said, "I've only ever played chess."

Foer and Ramiro also shook their heads.

"Let me teach you!" Negan said excitedly, "This is much more fun than chess!"

"Really?" Ramiro was eager to try, "But I'm afraid I won't be able to learn."

"Come on! It's very simple. You will understand as soon as I say it, and you can deal with me together!"

Negan dragged Ful and Ramiro to sit on the edge of the bed, then turned back and asked, "Arthur, aren't you coming?"

"You guys play first. After I finish packing my things, I have to go to the lounge to write a letter to my dad." Arthur said with a smile.

"Okay then, let's wait for you while we play!"

Arthur responded and shook his head secretly. He was not interested in these entertainment activities in the wizarding world at all.

After putting the books in the suitcase and a lot of things needed for class on the shelves, Arthur walked along the corridor to the lounge.

At this time, a few senior students were scattered on the sofa. They were eating snacks and chatting. Judging from the style of the snacks, they were probably produced in the Hogwarts kitchen...

Arthur smiled, spread the letter paper on the table, and was about to write a letter. Suddenly, he seemed to feel an inexplicable heart palpitation, and quickly turned back to look above the fireplace.

There hung a portrait of Helga Hufflepuff.

At this time, a simple silver ring appeared in the right hand of the fat witch holding the wand!

Arthur's pupils suddenly shrank and his quill fell to the ground.

In the portrait, Hufflepuff looked at him quietly, and the smile on his lips seemed to become deeper.
