Hogwarts is unreliable

Chapter 11 Sadness flows against the river

The students gathered on a dark platform.

The light of a lamp swayed above the heads of the students:

"First year, first year, come over here. Harry, come over here. How are you?"

A sturdy man who was almost as tall as two ordinary people and as wide as five ordinary people stood not far away and shouted loudly, maybe not loudly, but with his original voice.

His face was almost completely covered by long unkempt hair and a thick tangled beard. It was already night and the color was dim, but you could still see his pair of black beetle-like eyes shining under the hair.

Rubeus Hagrid, gamekeeper and keykeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

"Come on, come with me. Are there any freshmen? Watch your feet. All freshmen, come with me."

The new students followed Rubeus Hagrid, slipping and stumbling, seemingly down a steep and narrow path.

Perhaps because they were nervous, no one spoke.

"Children, when you turn this corner, you will soon see Hogwarts for the first time." Rubeus Hagrid called back.

"Digging Lotus Roots"

Exclamations came and went.

A black lake suddenly opened up at the end of the narrow road.

On the high hillside on the other side of the lake stands a majestic castle with spiers and windows shining under the starry sky.

"Now, no more than four people can board each boat." Rubeus Hagrid pointed at a group of boats moored on the shore and shouted.

Lin An and Nan Jiayu got on a boat, followed by Hermione Granger and Neville Longbottom.

"Um"

Suddenly, Lin An glanced at Draco Malfoy, who was still bruised and swollen, and his followers on another ship next to them. They were looking at him with hatred, and Lin An felt really happy.

"Are you all aboard?" shouted Rubeus Hagrid, who was riding in a ship alone. "It's time to move on."

A group of boats immediately sailed forward across the mirror-flat lake.

Everyone was silent, staring at the huge castle towering into the clouds from a distance.

As they approached the cliff on which the castle stood, it seemed to tower above them.

"head down"

Rubeus Hagrid shouted as the first ships approached the cliffs.

Everyone lowered their heads, and the boat carried them through the ivy curtain that covered the cliff face to the hidden open entrance.

They seemed to follow a dark tunnel to the castle underground, and finally arrived at a place similar to an underground dock, and then climbed up to a ground full of gravel and cobblestones.

Afterwards, under the light of Rubeus Hagrid's lantern, everyone climbed up a tunnel in the rock, and finally arrived at a flat and slightly damp grassland in the shadow of the castle.

They climbed a flight of stone steps and gathered in front of a huge oaken door.

Then, Rubeus Hagrid raised a huge fist and knocked on the castle door three times.

The door opened.

A tall black-haired witch wearing emerald green robes stood in front of the door with a serious expression.

"First year, Professor McGonagall." Rubeus Hagrid.

"Thank you, Hagrid. Leave it to me." Professor McGonagall opened the door a little further.

The foyer was large, with blazing torches surrounding the stone walls.

The ceiling is so high that you can barely see the top.

On the front is a luxurious marble staircase leading directly to the upper floor.

The new students followed Professor McGonagall as they walked along the marble floor.

Lin An heard hundreds of people buzzing from the door on the right. Students from other classes in the school must have arrived.

But Professor McGonagall took the first-year students to a very empty room at the other end of the hall.

Everyone rushed in, crowded together, and looked around nervously.

"Welcome to Hogwarts." Professor McGonagall.

"The opening banquet is about to begin. However, before you take your seats in the auditorium, you must first determine which college you will enter.

Sorting is an important ceremony because your house is like your home at Hogwarts while you are at school.

You will attend classes with other students in the college, live together in the college dormitories, and spend your free time together in the college common room.

The names of the four houses are: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin.

Each academy has its own glorious history and has produced outstanding wizards.

During your time at Hogwarts, your outstanding performance will earn your house extra points, while any violations will cause your house to lose points.

At the end of the year, the college with the highest score receives the College Cup, which is a high honor.

I hope that no matter which college you are assigned to, you can bring glory to your college.

In a few minutes, the sorting ceremony will be held in front of all the teachers and students of the school.

I suggest you tidy up and feel refreshed while waiting.

Okay, I'll pick you up when it's ready over there.

Now, stay quiet. "

After Professor McGonagall left the room, almost all the new students breathed a sigh of relief.

Lin An heard Hermione Granger mutter something, quickly reciting the spell she had learned on her own.

Suddenly, a student screamed: "Ah"

Twenty or so pearly white translucent ghosts suddenly appeared from the wall.

They whispered to each other as they slid across the room, paying little attention to the newcomers.

A chubby monk-like ghost: "You should forgive me, we can give him another chance"

"My good monk, haven't we given Peeves enough opportunities? But he has given us all terrible nicknames. You know, he can't even reach me as a ghost. What are you doing here?"

A phantom in a ruffled bodysuit suddenly spots freshmen.

No one answered.

"New students," the fat monk smiled at them: "I think you are probably ready to take the test."

Several students nodded silently.

"I hope you can be sorted into Hufflepuff," the monk ghost said, "I was in that house before."

"The sorting ceremony is about to begin." Professor McGonagall returned.

The ghosts floated around, and the fish penetrated the opposite wall and disappeared.

"Now, line up in a single file." Professor McGonagall said to the first-year students, "Follow me."

Lin An and the others walked out of the room in a row, passed through the foyer, and then entered the auditorium through a double door.

Students from other grades were sitting around four long tables. Thousands of candles floating in the air above the tables illuminated the auditorium.

Four tables were set with gleaming gold plates and goblets.

There is another long table on the upper stage of the auditorium, which is the teacher's seat.

Professor McGonagall took the first-year students under the stage and asked them to stand in a row facing all the senior students with their backs to the teacher's chair.

The candlelight flickered, and the hundreds of faces watching them looked like pale lanterns.

Ghosts also shone dimly among the students.

Looking up, I saw stars twinkling on the velvet-black ceiling.

Hermione Granger said: "This place has been enchanted and looks like the sky outside. I read about it in Hogwarts: A History."

Professor McGonagall gently placed a four-legged stool in front of the first-year students, and placed a pointed wizard's hat on the stool.

The hat was patched, worn, and dirty.

I'm afraid it hasn't been washed in hundreds of years, Lin An thought.
