Bright Moon Fairy King

Chapter 38: Gandalf

Orolin, later known to us as Gandalf, was a Maia who served Manwë himself, King of the Valar, and was also the wisest of the Maia.

Orolin lived in Lórien, the most beautiful place in the world, where many gods such as Elmo and Melian also lived.During his time in Valinor, Ororin's nature led him to visit Neena's lonely abode at the edge of the world often. From her Orolin learned compassion and patience.

Olorin loved the elves very much, but he walked among them invisibly, or took on their appearance; therefore, the elves did not know that the wonderful scenes or flashes of wisdom that emerged in their hearts were actually inspired by him.Just as Neena had done, he listened to the sorrow of all the Children of Ilúvatar and pitied them, allowing them to abandon their dark visions and awaken from despair.

In the middle of the Second Age, shortly after Sauron forged the One Ring, Manwe gathered the wise men in Valinor to sit and discuss. The meeting finally decided to send three envoys to Middle-earth to deal with Sauron's growing power. These messengers "must be powerful and not inferior to Sauron; they must also abandon their strength and use flesh as their body."From this, he is called Istar, or a wizard.Olorin is one of these three.

Eventually the number of messengers increased to five, and their names were Kurumo, Orolin, Ewindil, Alatar, and Palando.

Around the year 1000 of the Third Era, Istar arrived in Middle-earth one after another. They come in human form, but their appearance is never young and they age extremely slowly. When Ororin arrived in the Gray Havens, only Cirdan knew where he had come from and where he was returning. He welcomed Orolin at the port and entrusted him with Naya, the Ring of Fire, because he was the most far-sighted man in Middle-earth.

Around 1100 of the Third Era, Istar and the elves discovered that an evil creature occupied the Dolgul Fortress in the Black Forest.Shadows roam the forest, and malice abounds. Some people believe that this object is one of the Nazgûl, or other evil forces that have never appeared before.Gandalf was not sure who was entrenched in Dol Guldur, but he feared that it was Sauron himself who had appeared again.

Over the next 200 years, the evil in this place continued to grow, and the power of the evil things in the fortress became stronger and stronger. The Orcs gradually grew in size in places such as the Misty Mountains; the Witch King of Angmar, the leader of the Nazgûl, built the Carn'dum Fortress in the northern wasteland and launched a protracted war against Arnor; Moria and Minas Isi They fell one after another. When wars, plagues and natural disasters were taking turns, Gandalf came to Dol Guldur in 2063 of the Third Era, trying to solve the mystery of this place. The so-called necromancer who was entrenched here fled quickly, and Gandalf failed to find out his identity. This evil did not appear for a long time, allowing Middle-earth to breathe in peace for centuries.

This period of peace, which lasted for nearly 400 years, was called the Vigilant Peace, and allowed all free things to recuperate, but the Nazgûl also used this time to prepare for Sauron's return. In 2460 of the Third Era, the evil returned to Dol Guldur, and for some reason the wise men established the White Path Society three years later.Galadriel wanted Gandalf to be the leader of the White Council, but the position was eventually taken by Saruman. Although Saruman was indeed more knowledgeable, the main reason was Gandalf's refusal to take the position.Gandalf did not want to be burdened by an important position, and he had no intention of taking root anywhere.

During his wanderings in Eriador, Gandalf discovered the hobbits in the Shire and became acquainted with them.During the long winter of 2758 of the Third Age, Gandalf came to their aid.It was then that he discovered the tenacity in the bones of the hobbits that he would later praise for a long time.

Thrain II, the dwarf king of the Lonely Mountain, disappeared mysteriously on the way to his lost kingdom. After that, Gandalf continued to search for his whereabouts, and entered Khazad-dûm sometime after 2845 of the Third Era, and finally left through the Durin Gate without finding anything. Therefore, although he passed through the Durin Gate, It is not clear how to enter this door.

It wasn't until Gandalf came to Dol Guldur for the second time in 2850 of the Third Age that the mystery of the missing dwarf king came to light.Gandalf secretly sneaked into the fortress and found the dying Thrain II in the dungeon.Thrain entrusted him with the key and map to the secret door of the Lonely Mountain. At the same time, Gandalf found out that the so-called necromancer who occupied Dol Guldur was not one of the Nazgûl, but Sauron himself. It is obvious that Sauron is searching for the Rings, possibly including the One Ring he lost; and from Thrain, he has obtained the last of the Seven Rings of the Dwarves.

Gandalf escaped from Dol Guldur and reported his findings to the White Council. He urged the White Council to attack the shadows of Dol Guldur while Sauron was still young and the One Ring had not been found. However, Saruman suggested that the White Council had better wait and see what happens, and the One Ring had already been installed. All are carried into the sea by the river.Saruman's speech was finally approved by the majority, but the half-elf Elrond later privately told Gandalf that he foresaw that the One Ring would be found and that this era would come during the Great War.Elrond also said that he feared that the age would end in darkness and despair.Gandalf reassured him that there are still many opportunities in the world, and "when the wise hesitate to decide, help often comes from the hands of the weak."Gandalf did not know at this time that Saruman's true intention was to take the Ring for himself; in fact, he had already launched a search along the Anduin River.
