Chapter 18 Cold Reading

"Welcome to Hogwarts! Welcome to the new school year! Before the dinner begins, I would like to say a few words. Idiot! Cry! Residue! Screw it! Thank you everyone!"

Dumbledore spread his arms and said loudly, and the students immediately responded with warm applause.

Dumbledore was undoubtedly a good headmaster in terms of the simplicity with which he delivered his speeches. He only said one sentence, sat down again, and tapped the silver cup in front of him with a small gold spoon, causing a large amount of food to appear out of thin air on each table.

After a strenuous mountain climbing exercise outside the school gate, the little wizards were already ravenous with hunger.

Justin forked a piece of steak and put it on the dinner plate with quick eyes and hands, but his good family background still allowed him to maintain the dignity he deserved. He cut the steak slowly and looked at the little wizards around him who were devouring it with some disgust.

"My dad said that no matter how hungry you are, you can't lose your upbringing." Justin said to Ryan. He was very happy that Ryan was not as rude as others.

Ryan took a sausage and a stack of ketchup. He smiled and said, "No one can resist the temptation of delicious food, right? Not every little wizard is like us and can have a full lunch in the car. .”

The blond guy next to Justin nodded immediately. His mouth was full of potatoes and gravy, and he said inarticulately: "That's right. This is the first time I've had such a great dinner."

He swallowed the food into his stomach with difficulty, then wiped the soup from the corner of his mouth and said, "My name is Ernie MacMillan, nice to meet you."

"I'm Justin Finlay, and this is Ryan Franklin." Justin introduced.

"You must be Muggle wizards, right?" Ernie grabbed another steak, "I heard from our half-blood relatives that Muggles' lives are much more comfortable than ours..."

"I think wizards' food is much better than Muggles' food," Ryan said.

"Only at Hogwarts," Ernie said vaguely, "Many pure-blood families are so poor that they can't even lift the pot. Although our family is fine, we can't afford to raise a house elf."

"House elf?" Justin asked with interest.

"Oh, I haven't seen it either." Ernie shrugged. "Only some rich pure-blood families have them. For example, Malfoy, well, that's the stinky guy sitting on the Slytherin table. ." He lowered his voice, "My family asked me to stay away from them."

"Why?" Justin was a little surprised, "Aren't you all pure blood?"

"Because they are evil dark wizards." Ernie said seriously. "The Malfoy family has taken refuge in the Dark Lord, and they have killed many people! Moreover, only those paranoid lunatics value blood. A Muggle uncle of mine told Me, they will all die because of genetic diseases!”

"Don't say that, MacMillan." A tall dark-haired handsome man sitting in front of Ryan said, "We can't be biased because of a person's bloodline, family, or college. Remember the quality of Hufflepuff, fairness. Treat everyone with respect.”

"Come on, Cedric." Another senior student next to him laughed, "You complained about Malfoy giving bribes to the Ministry of Magic before!"

"It's different, Bernard!" Cedric wanted to defend himself, but didn't know how to speak, so he finally sighed, "Well, I really don't like Malfoy. They always rely on their power to take advantage of loopholes."

"That's the nature of Slytherin, they are good at using any means necessary." The senior student named Bernard said disdainfully, and then he looked at Ryan and others affectionately, "Freshmen, get to know our Hufflepuffs." The genius boy, Cedric Diggory! He is the best seeker, the best student, and of course, the most popular handsome guy among girls. If you have any difficulties, you can come to our reliable Diggory. "

"You are exaggerating, Bernard." Cedric frowned.

"Oh, one more thing, the most humble gentleman!" Bernard winked, "It's a pity that senior Cedric already has his heart. Come on, Cedric, tell us who is the girl in your heart?"

Cedric blushed and shook his head vigorously: "Bernard, stop talking nonsense."

"He's always like this." Bernard said regretfully to Ryan and the others, "There's nothing we can do about it. If a Hufflepuff wants to hide a secret, it's almost impossible to be discovered."

"You can't say for sure, Senior Bernard." Ryan laughed. "It just so happens that I know an interesting technique called 'cold reading'..."

He put down the cutlery in his hands and stared at Cedric: "Senior Diggory, which college is the girl you like in?"

"Oh, it's useless." Bernard smiled, "Your name is...Franklin, right? Franklin, Cedric has a tight mouth."

"No, Senior Cedric will tell me. No words are needed." Ryan said, "So, it's Hufflepuff? Oh, it turns out not. The senior didn't fall in love with the senior sister from our school. It's really sad. Yes; so it’s Gryffindor? It doesn’t seem to be...then it’s Ravenclaw, aha, you guessed it! So, senior, which Ravenclaw do you like?"

"Ahem, Franklin." Cedric felt a little uncomfortable, "Don't talk nonsense about things that don't happen."

"Haha!" Bernard laughed, "You lied, Cedric! Is it really Ravenclaw? Which one, which one? Who refused to say, hey! Franklin, leave it to you."

"Don't be like this, Bernard." Cedric couldn't laugh or cry. After Bernard made such a fuss, the surrounding Hufflepuff students lowered their voices and glanced at him intentionally or unintentionally with gossipy eyes.

Ryan did not continue to go crazy, he knew enough was enough. He spread his hands pretending to be helpless: "I'm sorry, Senior Bernard, how can I really know what Senior Diggory is thinking?"

Cedric breathed a sigh of relief, but he always felt that he had been seen through.

"I feel like you lied again." Justin muttered.

"How is that possible, Justin." Ryan said sincerely, "It's like I have never noticed that you looked at a certain girl at this table seven times in one minute."

Justin coughed violently. He quickly pretended that nothing happened, took out a baked potato, and pretended to eat it. After a while, he secretly said to Ryan: "You won't tell anyone. ,Right?"

"Unless, of course, you're willing to say it yourself."

"Thank you, Ryan, I don't know why..." Justin blushed, "This may be..."

"Stop talking, sour!" Ryan interrupted, "If you have any troubles, you can talk to Senior Cedric. I think you two will definitely have something in common."

This time both Justin and Cedric coughed.

Ryan glanced sideways at the two of them, saying, "You little brat, you know how to love hammer, do you like it?"Clearly greedy... despicable!

When everyone was full, all the food on the plate disappeared. After a while, various desserts were spread across the table.

Ryan stared at the pudding in front of him with wide eyes. Isn't this...this fruit carving and this honey frosting the pudding made at home?Capitalism, which is so evil, steals from others without saying a word. Where is the patent fee?

Ryan glanced at Dumbledore dissatisfied, and the other party also looked over meaningfully. Ryan quickly lowered his head.

After tasting the house elf's cooking, Ryan couldn't help but frown. This pudding is so sweet that it looks like it was specially ordered by a certain principal. After barely finishing one portion, Ryan didn't plan to touch any other sweets.

Justin wanted to eat more, but Ernie in the seat next to him was sucking his fingers covered in ice cream in an imageless manner, making a loud squeaking sound, which made Justin lose his appetite at all.

When the dessert was almost finished, Dumbledore stood up again.

"Now that everyone has eaten and drank enough, I will say a few more words. Here are a few things to note -

“First-year students, please note that the woods on campus are strictly prohibited. Of course, senior students should also keep this in mind.

"Mr. Filch, the caretaker, asked me to remind you that magic is not allowed in the corridors between classes.

"The Quidditch team entry test will be held in the second week. Students who want to join the college team please sign up with Mrs. Huo Qi.

"Finally, I must warn you, if you don't want to die tragically, please don't go to the corridor on the right side of the fourth floor!"

Ryan silently despised Dumbledore in his heart:
