Professor of Gemology at Hogwarts

Chapter 77 Hagrid’s Mistake

"I'm going to tell my dad-" Malfoy shouted from the hospital.

"Oh, it's you, Professor Morris." Madam Pomfrey saw someone entering the school hospital without permission, and was about to scold him when she saw Gray.

"Good afternoon, ma'am."

Gray looked past Madam Pomfrey. On the hospital bed not far behind her, Malfoy was hanging with one arm and looking aggrieved. Next to him, Pansy was looking at him with concern.

"Is this hurt?" Gray asked.

"Yes, Professor!" Pansy spoke first before Madam Pomfrey could speak, "Draco was attacked by a Hippogriff! It almost broke Draco's arm!"

"Hippogriff?" Gray was very surprised.

"Keep it down, Pansy," Malfoy groaned. "It hurts so much. It hurts me even more if you speak too loudly... Professor, I almost died..."

"It's not that exaggerated, Mr. Malfoy," Ms. Pomfrey said. "There was a lot of blood, but it's okay. You're fine now."

"But it still hurts, ma'am, it hurts like hell—"

"I have taken all the medicines that need to be used," Madam Pomfrey said with a straight face, "I have no doubts about my treatment methods, unless you..."

"No, ma'am, that monster is too lethal." Malfoy held his arm and started howling again, "It hurts too much——"

"Hagrid should be fired!" Pansy shouted.

"Okay," Gray stopped, "What happened?"

"Professor Morris, we were in the Care of Magical Creatures class today. Hagrid brought out a hippogriff. It suddenly became furious, uncontrollably, and attacked Draco ferociously! His arm was almost broken. ——" Pansy took a breath, "It's terrible!"

"Hagrid is telling you about hippogriffs in this lesson?" Gray couldn't believe it. "Are you sure?"

"Of course! Professor! We are all here! Everyone has seen it, that monster with the head, wings and body of a giant eagle!" Pansy said and gestured.

What's happening here?Didn’t Gray persuade Hagrid? Why does Hagrid still insist on using hippogriffs?

"Okay, I understand, just take good care of yourself, Malfoy." Gray was about to leave.

"Please wait a moment, Professor Morris." Malfoy stopped him. "Hagrid will be expelled, right? It was a teaching accident, Professor."

"I can't say for sure," Gray said. "It depends on what the principal wants."

In the evening, Hagrid did not come to the Great Hall for dinner.

Gray was about to go find him to find out. He couldn't figure out why Hagrid, who had figured it out, suddenly changed back to his original class plan.

The grass was still wet and looked almost black in the dusk.He came to Hagrid's hut, knocked on the door, and a voice shouted roughly: "Come in."

As soon as he opened the door, Gray smelled the smell of alcohol and saw three people besides Hagrid.

Hagrid sat in shirtsleeves at the cleanly scrubbed wooden table, his hunting dog Fang resting his head on his lap. There was a large pewter glass as big as a bucket in front of him, and his eyes seemed to be blurred, and it was difficult to see Gray clearly.

"It's you...Gray..." Hagrid was drunk.

"I'm sorry, Professor Morris!" Hermione said hurriedly. She glanced at Harry, "We shouldn't be running around in the dark. Let's go back -"

Ron grabbed Hermione who was about to rush out of the hut.

"Come back! You might be fine!" Ron whispered in Hermione's ear.

"Oh, it's okay, you guys sit down." Gray's attention was now entirely on Hagrid, not paying attention to the three of them at all.

"You're right, Gray..." Hagrid was still drunk.

"I heard about what happened in the afternoon..." Gray sat next to him. He was a little anxious, but he still tried his best to say in a gentle tone, "I said we could start with the Flobber armyworm, and you agreed with me. "Why did you suddenly change again during class?"

"Yes, I agree with what you said. Everything you said is right, Gray, but -" Hagrid said angrily, "I was too stupid. Everything you said was right, but I was too stupid -"

Hagrid kept talking and repeating. He was so drunk that there was no way he could communicate.

"Professor Morris, have you warned Hagrid before?" Harry asked.

"Ah, that's right." Gray saw Hagrid lying on the table and could no longer continue the conversation. He turned to the three students, "Before the school started, Hagrid showed me his teaching plan. He was counting on using a hippogriff to complete a wonderful first lesson, but this animal is dangerous and would be in trouble if something went wrong, so I advised him to use something easier to control and less dangerous. Animals, he agreed.”

"Buckbeak is not dangerous. Malfoy provoked him first!" Harry said.

Gray frowned. Although Harry successfully tried to fly Buckbeak in class, it was indeed dangerous. This was a fact. Otherwise, how could he be classified to Level [-] by the Ministry of Magic?

"Malfoy was injured. This is a fact. Fortunately, it was only his arm and Ms. Pomfrey treated him in time. If he had been less lucky, he might have been attacked by a Hippogriff and died directly," Gray said.

"Madam Pomfrey tried her best to treat him," Hagrid said dullly, "but he still said it was in terrible pain... wrapped in a bandage... humming..."

"Professor, Malfoy deserves it!" Ron said, "He was the one who provoked Buckbeak first."

"Professor, you don't know the situation at that time," Hermione said anxiously, "Hagrid said that if the Hippogriff is offended, it will attack. But Malfoy didn't listen carefully. He insisted on provoking Buck. Piccolo, this is what happened.”

"Professor, Malfoy is just pretending!" Harry waved his hand and said, "Ms. Pomfrey can heal any injury. Last year, she made half of my bones grow back. He must be trying to take advantage of this." Make a fuss!”

The three children rushed to tell Gray about the situation.

"Needless to say, the school governors must have known about it," Hagrid said sadly. "They thought I was too aggressive at the beginning. I should have left the Hippogriff for later...get some Flo first. Caterpillars and so on... I just want to make the first class a wonderful one... It's all my fault... Gray is right... but I'm really stupid..."

"So why didn't you do what I said? Didn't you figure it out?" Gray asked.

"I figured it out, Gray, I really figured it out. You said, first control the accident within your control..." Hagrid said, "I did it. Originally, I planned to bring a group of hippogriffs. The winged beasts were shown to the students, but as you said, accidents are uncontrollable... So, I only brought one, which is Buckbeak..."

Gray took a deep breath. He suddenly felt speechless and helpless.

"I was so stupid... I thought a hippogriff was in front of me, and I would definitely control it-" Tears flowed from the crow's feet of Hagrid's small black eyes.

"The three of us are witnesses, Hagrid. We are going to tell Dumbledore what happened. You will be fine," Harry said.

"Yeah, don't worry," Ron said, "We'll all support you."
