Chapter 196 The arrival of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students
On this day, everyone was thinking that people from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang were coming tonight. Except for good students like Hermione, no one could listen to the class with peace of mind. The professors had nothing to do about it. Even Professor McGonagall gave them a rare opportunity to relax. Instead of teaching new content in her class, she asked them to practice the magic from the previous class.
The last class ended half an hour early to accommodate guests from Beauxbatons and Durmstrang.
When the get out of class bell rang, they all returned to the towers of their respective colleges as required, put down their schoolbags and textbooks, and then, neatly dressed in witch robes and cloaks, gathered in front of their respective college towers.
"Weasley, put your hat on straight," Professor McGonagall said sternly to Ron, "Miss Patil, take that ridiculous thing off your hair."
Parvati frowned unhappily and took off a large butterfly headdress from the end of her braid.
"Please follow me," Professor McGonagall said. "The first-year students are in front. Don't crowd..."
They filed down the steps and stood in line in front of the castle. It was a cold, fresh evening, night was falling, and a white, translucent moon was already hanging over the Forbidden Forest.
In addition to students and professors like them, Hogwarts also has a few more outsiders. There were four of them, including a witch. The two men each carried a camera, and one of them also held a broomstick. They shot from two angles on the ground and in the sky.
The footage they captured will first be transmitted to the magic weapon carried by the two of them, and then transmitted to the magic TV after being processed by them.
However, the current editing magic tool is still very simple. It just switches back and forth between two different shooting scenes on the ground and in the air.
Magic TV is still a new thing in the wizarding world. After today's filming is completed, let them see the complete program production process such as shooting and editing by mature Muggles. I believe they will take the initiative without Maple speaking. Propose improvements.
"It's almost six o'clock," Ron said, looking at his watch and looking down the driveway to the front door. "How do you think they're going to get here? By train?"
"I think Professor Dumbledore is willing to provide them with the Hogwarts Express, but do you think the other two principals would be willing?" Maple said with a smile.
After that, Harry and Ron guessed the travel methods they could think of-flying broomsticks, portkeys, and disembodiment, but they were all rejected by Hermione without exception.
The wait was painful. At first, they looked excitedly at everything around the venue, but there was still no movement. It was getting darker and darker, and they were getting impatient by standing like this.
The most unlucky thing is the photographer who has already risen into the air. It is undoubtedly a torture to hold the camera in the air and maintain the shooting posture.
Maple complained feebly again, "Hey, you're a wizard. They haven't come yet. Can't you use the levitating spell to levitate the camera in the air?"
After a while, when everyone was waiting impatiently, Dumbledore, who was standing in the back row with other teachers, shouted——
"Ah! If I'm not mistaken, the Beauxbatons representative has already arrived!"
"Where?" Many students asked eagerly, looking in different directions.
"There!" shouted a sixth grader, pointing over the Forbidden Forest.
Dumbledore's senses were still as sharp, and he sensed the movement in the sky that appeared a few seconds later.
The photographer riding on the broomstick immediately cheered up and pointed the lens towards the target.
A huge object was flying rapidly across the dark blue sky, flying towards the castle, gradually getting bigger and bigger.
As the dark behemoth passed through the treetops of the Forbidden Forest, illuminated by the lights from the castle windows, they saw a huge powder-blue carriage flying toward them.It was as big as a house, and it was pulled through the air by twelve winged horses, all of them silver-maned horses, each as big as an elephant.
The carriage flew lower and was landing at an extremely fast speed. The students standing in the first three rows hurriedly backed away. Then, there was an earth-shaking loud noise, and those horse hooves fell to the ground with a thud, each one as big as a vegetable plate. In the blink of an eye, the carriage also landed on the ground, vibrating on the huge wheels. At the same time, the golden horses shook their huge heads and their big fiery red eyes turned.
There is a coat of arms printed on the car door, two golden crossed wands, with three stars emerging from each.
The door opened, and a boy in a light blue robe jumped out of the carriage first, bent down, groped for something on the floor of the carriage, and then opened a golden spiral staircase.
He jumped back respectfully, and then a shiny black high-heeled shoe was stretched out from the carriage. The shoe was as big as a child's sleigh, followed closely by a woman, as big as only How could Hagrid compare to that.
The woman came down from the steps and turned around to look at the wide-eyed crowd. There was no strange expression on her face, as if she was used to it.
Her hair was slicked back and pulled into a shiny bun at the base of her neck. She was wrapped in a black wrought garment from head to toe, and many gorgeous opals shone around her neck and on her thick fingers.
Dumbledore started to applaud, and his classmates also clapped. Many of them stood on tiptoes, trying to get a better look at this woman.
Her face relaxed into an elegant smile, and she stretched out a gleaming hand and walked towards Dumbledore.Although Dumbledore was also tall, he barely bent down when he kissed the hand.
"Dear Madame Maxime," he said, "welcome to Hogwarts."
"Dumbledore," Madame Maxime said in a low voice, "I hope you are well."
"Very well, thank you," said Dumbledore.
"My pupil," Madame Maxime said, waving her huge hand carelessly behind her.About a dozen or so male and female students had gotten off the carriage and were standing behind Madame Maxime.
The robes they wore seemed to be made of fine silk, and none of them wore cloaks. It seemed that they had no idea about the British weather before.
It seems that the gap in the wizarding world is quite serious. When Muggles began to enter the global era, the Beauxbatons students were all wary at first glance at Hogwarts.
"Are they?" Madam Maxime pointed at a few wizards who were still filming a TV show and asked with some confusion.
"They are from EFL TV station. I invited them to film our program for the Triwizard Tournament." Professor Dumbledore said.
"TV station?" Mrs. Maxim was a little confused.
"You can think of them as an organization similar to the Daily Prophet, but the Daily Prophet takes photos of events, while their TV program shows us the images and sounds of the entire process of our Triwizard Tournament. "Dumbledore explained.
"Is Karkaroff here?" Mrs. Maxim seemed to understand, but she did not ask again, but asked about the principal of Durmstrang.
"He will be here any minute," said Dumbledore. "Would you rather wait here to greet him, or would you rather go in first and warm yourself up?"
"It's better to warm up," said Madame Maxime, "but those horses——"
"Our Care of Magical Creatures teacher will be happy to look after them," said Dumbledore. "He's coming back from a little mess that was caused by his - well - other things he was looking after."
"My horses require - well - strength to look after them," said Madam Maxime, seeming to doubt whether the Care of Magical Creatures teacher at Hogwarts was up to the job, "They have very fiery tempers. . . ”
"I assure you, Hagrid is fully capable of doing this job." Dumbledore said with a smile.
"Very well," Madame Maxime said, bowing slightly, "could you please tell this Hagrid that these horses only drink single malt whisky?"
"I'll take care of it," Dumbledore said, bowing as well.
"Come on," Madame Maxime said majestically to her students. So the crowd at Hogwarts moved out of the way, allowing her and her students to walk up the stone steps.
They stood there, waiting for the arrival of the Durmstrang delegation, already shivering slightly from the cold. Most people looked up at the sky longingly. There was silence all around for a moment, except for the snorting and stamping of Madame Maxime's giant horse.at this time--
A loud, strange sound floated toward them from the darkness: a muffled rumbling and sucking sound, like a giant vacuum cleaner moving along the riverbed. . .
"In the lake!" Li Qiaodan shouted, pointing to the lake, "Look at that lake!"
Standing on the slope of the lawn overlooking the field, they had a clear view of the calm, dark water. But the water surface suddenly became no longer calm. There was a commotion under the water in the middle of the lake, huge splashes rose on the surface, and waves crashed against the wet shores. Then, right in the middle of the lake, a large whirlpool appeared, as if a huge plug was suddenly pulled out from the bottom of the lake.
The two photographers immediately adjusted their cameras to face the lake.
Then something like a long black pole slowly rose from the whirlpool. Slowly and magnificently, the big ship rose out of the water, shining brightly in the moonlight. It had an eerie, skeletal appearance, as if it were the remains of a newly recovered shipwreck, and the portholes shone with a dim, foggy light that looked like ghostly eyes.
Finally, with a faint splashing sound, the big boat emerged completely, bumped on the undulating water, and began to sail towards the lake shore.A moment later, they heard a splash as an anchor was thrown into the shallow water, and then another snap as a plank was set on the shore of the lake.
The people on the boat came ashore quickly. Unlike the Beauxbatons students who wore too thin clothes, the Durmstrang students wore thicker clothes than the Hogwarts students. They wore a kind of fur cloak with shaggy and tangled fur.
The adult wizard who led their team was wearing a silver-white, soft and smooth fur cloak.
"Dumbledore!" Karkaroff called enthusiastically as he walked up the ramp. "How are you, my dear old fellow?"
"Excellent, thank you, Professor Karkaroff." Dumbledore replied.
"Dear old Hogwarts," he said, looking up at the castle and smiling - his teeth were very yellow, and Harry noticed that although his face was smiling, his eyes were unsmiling and still cold. and sharp, "It's so good to be here, so good. Viktor, come here and warm yourself up. You don't mind, Dumbledore? Viktor's got a bit of a cold."
Karkaroff motioned for one of his students to come forward. When the boy walked by, seeing his striking aquiline nose and two thick, black eyebrows, many students at Hogwarts couldn't help but stop. Stepped down——
"It's Krum!"
Seeker Viktor Krum of the Bulgarian team at the Quidditch World Cup!
"I can't believe it!" Ron said in a shocked tone, "It's Krum, Harry! Viktor Krum! I didn't expect he was still a student!"
It wasn't just Ron. After recognizing Viktor Krum's identity, Li Jordan jumped up and down on tiptoes, trying to see Krum's back more clearly.Several sixth-grade girls were walking, frantically searching for something in their pockets——
"Oh, I can't believe it, I don't have a quill on me -"
"Do you think he would sign my hat with lipstick?"
After entering the auditorium, Beauxbatons' classmates chose seats at the Ravenclaw table, and Viktor Krum and his fellow Durmstrang alumni sat down at the Slytherin table.
The Gryffindor Quidditch fans were disappointed, and the Slytherins were triumphant.
After Durmstrang's staff also arrived, the photographer riding a broomstick was finally relieved. After landing on the ground, he exchanged work with a wizard in charge of editing to rest his tired shoulders.
When the Hogwarts students followed Durmstrang's flow of people back to the auditorium, two photographers followed the procession all the way to the auditorium carrying cameras.
After entering the auditorium, the two of them divided their duties. One walked to the front stage, while the other was at the back of the crowd.
Except for Muggle-born wizards, no other students knew that television existed. They noticed the efl TV cameraman filming, but no one cared.
Durmstrang's classmates looked up with interest at the dark, starlit ceiling as they took off their students' fur cloaks. Two of the students also picked up the golden plates and goblets and held them carefully, obviously very interested.
Over there at the staff table, the janitor Filch was adding a few chairs. For today's grand occasion, he put on that moldy old tuxedo.Harry was surprised to see that he had added four more chairs, two on each side of Dumbledore's.
After all the students entered the auditorium and took their seats at the tables in their respective houses, the faculty came in and they filed over to the guest of honor seat and sat down.Walking last were Professor Dumbledore, Professor Karkaroff and Madame Maxime. The Beauxbatons students stood up quickly as soon as they saw their principal appear.
Several Hogwarts students couldn't help but laugh. But the Beauxbatons representatives did not look embarrassed at all, and they did not sit down again until Madame Maxime sat down on Dumbledore's left hand side.Dumbledore remained standing, and the auditorium gradually became quiet.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, ghosts, and - especially - distinguished guests," said Dumbledore, looking at the foreign students with a smile. "It is with great joy that I welcome you. To Hogwarts. I hope and trust that you will feel comfortable and happy here."
A Beauxbatons girl still wrapped her scarf tightly around her head and let out an unmistakable sarcastic sneer.
"No one forced you to stay!" Hermione whispered, she was annoyed by the girl.
"The competition will officially begin at the end of the banquet." Dumbledore said, "I now invite everyone to eat and drink as much as you would at home!"
After Dumbledore sat down, the plates in front of them were piled with food as usual, but the difference was that their dishes had a lot more foreign flavors.
"What's that?" Ron asked, pointing to a large plate of what looked like a seafood chowder next to a chunk of steak and kidney pudding.
"French fish soup," said Hermione.
"Good guy," said Ron.
"This is French food," Hermione said. "We had it during the summer vacation the year before last. It was delicious."
Somehow, the auditorium seemed much more crowded than usual, even though there were only less than twenty more students.Perhaps it was because their different colored uniforms stood out compared to the black robes of Hogwarts.Durmstrang's student took off his fur cloak, revealing the blood-red robe underneath.
Twenty minutes after the banquet started, Hagrid slipped into the auditorium through a door behind the staff table. He took his seat at the end of the table, raised a heavily bandaged hand, and waved to Maple, Hermione, Harry, and Ron.
"How are the Blast-Ended Skrewts, Hagrid?" Harry asked loudly.
"It's growing nicely," Hagrid replied happily.
"Yeah, I guess that's the case," Ron whispered. "It seems they have finally found something they like to eat, and that is Hagrid's fingers."
At this moment, a voice said: "Excuse me, do you still want to eat this plate of mixed fish soup?"
It was the Beauxbatons girl who laughed when Dumbledore spoke just now.She finally took off her scarf. Her long, waterfall-like silver hair reached her waist. She has big blue eyes and neat white teeth.
Ron's face suddenly turned red.He stared at her blankly and opened his mouth to answer, but he only made some strange little noises, as if his throat was stuck.
Ron, don't be so rude, she will be your sister-in-law in the future.
"Okay, you take it." Harry said, pushing the plate to the girl.
"Have you finished eating?"
"It's done," Ron said breathlessly. "It's done. It's delicious."
The girl carefully carried the plate and walked to the Ravenclaw table.Ron was still staring at the girl with wide eyes, as if he had never seen a female classmate before.Harry laughed. The sound seemed to bring Ron suddenly to his senses.
"She's a Veela!" he croaked to Harry.
"I said, that girl is really extraordinary!" Ron said, turning sideways so that he could still see her clearly, "There is no such person in Hogwarts!"
"The girls at Hogwarts are not bad either." Harry said without hesitation. Cho Chang was sitting just a few seats away from the silver-haired girl.
While they were distracted, the two empty seats on the faculty table were occupied.Ludo Bagman sat on the other side of Professor Karkaroff, and Mr. Crouch, Percy's immediate boss, sat next to Madame Maxime.
Hermione ignored Harry and Ron who were distracted and just stared at Maple. Seeing that Maple didn't peek at the other girls like the two boys, Hermione smiled with satisfaction and turned to chat with Maple. The efl TV station was made possible by their hands.
In order to satisfy Hermione's sense of accomplishment, Maple also specially gave her the task of naming the TV station. Equality, fairness, love, equality, justice, care.
Hermione smiled broadly as she saw the cameraman affiliated with their station filming next to Ludo Bagman and Barty Crouch.
