What's more, in the square in front of you, the bricks and stones under your feet are actually not a single gap, but a complete piece!

Many officials and merchants couldn't wait to squat down and reach out to touch the bricks and stones on the ground.

"The floor tiles are so bright and clean, like jade! But where does the jade get so many colors?"

"It's as bright as a mirror, crystal clear! I've lived my whole life, but I don't know what it is!"

"This, how can there be no seams here? Could it be that this is a complete piece of stone? Daozu, I am afraid that this can only be done if the Daozu manifests his holiness?"

Li Er was also very satisfied with the reactions of the officials.

When he first saw this square with his own eyes, his performance was no better than the crowd.

Even Li Er didn't know how Li Wangyou fiddled with this kind of masonry that looked like stone, jade, and glazed.

Li Wangyou was extremely satisfied with his "masterpiece".

Being able to achieve such an effect at the smallest cost, his goal has been achieved.

According to the architectural tradition of the Tang Dynasty, most of the materials used to pave the square are stones quarried from the mountains, and then carefully carved and polished by craftsmen. To pave the huge square in front of us, it would take a lot of time and effort just to lay these stone materials.

Li Wangyou naturally refused to do such a stupid thing, so the building material terrazzo was created by him thousands of years in advance.

It is made of crushed stone, glass, quartz stone and other materials, mixed with cement and bonded to form, and then the surface can be ground and polished to complete.

Because of the low cost, the ability to color the mosaic at will, and the convenience of construction, many Chinese families in the 70s and [-]s liked to lay terrazzo floors inside the house when they were decorating.

The square in front of me was made by Li Wangyou's craftsmen, who poured cement on site, mixed various colored stones, glass, etc., and polished it.

But the effect is surprisingly good!

Tang people had never seen such building materials before, so they were naturally shocked by this.

I have to say that after adding a lot of glass to the terrazzo, the reflected light under the reflection of the sun is really shocking.

And its price is quite cheap.

Compared with traditional craftsmanship, a large number of craftsmen are required to collect stones from deep mountains for carving and processing, which is extremely cheap.

This is why Li Wangyou thought that building a Daming Palace might not necessarily cost so much.

Of course, there is a downside to using terrazzo, which is that it can become stained and dull over time.

The terrazzo used in the open air will also suffer from weathering and abrasion.

But these are not problems in Li Wangyou's view. Anyway, there are so many maids and servants in Li Er's palace, just order them to clean and polish the ground every day, it's no big deal.

Li Wangyou smiled without saying a word, and waited for everyone to marvel, then greeted everyone again, and walked towards the interior of Daming Palace.

Turning his head to look at the court officials and merchants behind him, Li Wangyou couldn't help being happy.

He felt that he should prepare a small flag and hold it in his hand, and give each of them a little red riding hood, so that they can organize a group tour.

In a trance, walking in the Daming Palace, Li Wangyou couldn't help being a little distracted.

Maybe thousands of years later, if the Daming Palace can be saved from being destroyed by war, there will really be tour guides leading tourists here in the future.

"Come on, come on, members of the group, please look here. This is the famous Daming Palace in the Tang Dynasty. After more than 1000 years, it still stands in the land of China, showing us the style of the prosperous Tang Dynasty..."

1066 Cutting corners

Li Wangyou was like a tour guide, leading a group of officials and merchants through the Daming Palace, but everyone's eyes were dazzled.

Different from the traditional buildings of the Tang Dynasty, the Daming Palace built by Li Wangyou used a lot of common building decoration materials such as glass, cement, and ceramic tiles in later generations.

In half a year, Daming Palace has taken shape.

The palace walls, turrets, city towers, and several reused palaces in the former dynasty of Daming Palace have all been completed.

Apart from Li Wangyou investing a lot of manpower and material resources regardless of the cost, the construction can be built at such a fast speed. The more important reason is that this product "cut corners and materials".

For example, the halls of Hanyuan Hall, Xuanzheng Hall, and Zichen Hall did not use much wood at all, and almost all of them were piled with cement.

After all, according to the Tang system, the wooden beams on the main hall must be high-quality golden nanmu, and the diameter must be enough for two people to hug each other.

Not to mention how much such a thick golden nanmu cost, it would take a lot of money just to transport it from central Sichuan, southern Yunnan and other places to Chang'an City.

Li Wangyou directly omitted it and replaced it with concrete beams.

Of course, with Datang's current steel output, there is no need to think about the steel bars in the concrete.

If the huge Daming Palace is all made of reinforced concrete, the cost seems to be no cheaper than transporting wood.

Of course, there must be tendons and bones in the cement, otherwise the bending resistance and flexural strength cannot be guaranteed, and the house built is equivalent to a tofu project.

Li Wangyou just wanted to "save costs" and didn't intend to fool Li Er.

Therefore, he used bamboo instead of steel bars, treating them as the bones and tendons of concrete.

Bamboo-reinforced concrete is not an invention of Li Wangyou, but a product that has appeared in later generations.

Even compared to reinforced concrete, bamboo-reinforced concrete is lighter than steel and easy to be plasticized, and even its strength and elastic-plastic shape are not greatly affected by temperature, so it will be used more and more widely in later generations.

Of course, bamboo reinforced concrete has many disadvantages. The integrity, moldability, and rigidity of bamboo reinforcement are not as good as steel reinforcement, and their durability is not as good as steel reinforcement.

However, these shortcomings are not too big of a problem for Li Wangyou.

Although later countries stipulate that the life span of concrete buildings is 60 years, in fact, the theoretical life span of concrete buildings is very long, and can even last hundreds of years.

The French designed and built the first concrete bridge in 1875, and it still existed when Li Wangyou crossed it.

The first reinforced concrete building in Paris, built in 1853, experienced the devastation of World War II and is still intact...

Therefore, even if bamboo is used as bones and tendons, which have many disadvantages compared to steel bars, Li Wangyou does not think that there will be any problems in this Daming Palace during his lifetime.

With cement masonry and concrete, the palace was built with astonishing speed.

After all, compared to wooden palaces, those extremely cumbersome manufacturing techniques, masonry and cement are too simple.

For several palaces, Li Wangyou directly ordered people to replace the wood with concrete stone pillars and stone beams, and the exterior was painted with vermilion lacquer and painted with various paintings, which were equally beautiful and atmospheric.

Of course, the most important thing is to save money!

Li Er and the court officials didn't know the mystery, although they knew that those pillars were not made of wood, they were very satisfied with these indestructible stone pillars.

Because of the large floor-to-ceiling glass doors and windows installed everywhere in the main hall, it is extremely transparent.Under the sunlight, the entire palace is shining brightly and abnormally bright.

Coupled with the various towering trees transplanted from the Qinling Mountains by Li Wangyou's order, the completed Daming Palace is even more majestic.
