15, Akechi Hideyori is requested to nurse someone

Sunday.

I had been holed up in my room.

It was when I turned on the TV and grabbed the game controller.

My aunt’s voice came from outside the room.

“Hideyori, it’s a call from your brother!”

“Ugh…”

It seems I’ve received a call intended for me from the Master.

Reluctantly, I put down the controller and switched the phone from my aunt to me.

“Hideyori is not here.”

“You’re obviously there.”

“Hello, what do you need?”

“You switch gears fast,” he teased while I waited for the Master’s request.

“Actually, I have a little favor to ask of you, Hideyori.”

“I’m not available.”

“Don’t be like that. It’s a serious request.”

“Are you getting remarried or something?”

“If that were the case, I’d talk to your sister, not you.”

Listening to the Master’s words, I sensed, “This sounds troublesome…”

“Sakiya caught a cold. I need someone to take care of her. It’s Sunday, and the hospital is closed, and the shop makes the most money on Sundays! I’m really counting on you!”

“What’s the reward?”

“Are you asking for money…? I haven’t even taken a coffee fee from you once, so give me a break.”

“That hurts to hear.”

“If you want a reward, being allowed into Sakiya’s room is reward enough!”

“Are you kidding me?”

The Master started talking nonsense.

I couldn’t care less about Sakiya’s room, though?

“I’m not kidding. I wouldn’t let a boy into cute Sakiya’s room even for a hundred million. It’s worth that much, right?”

“Then give me a hundred million.”

“You’re so blunt…”

“Is the Master’s daughter even cute?”

“The face is definitely cute!”

“Your face is your only redeeming feature,” my parents blurted out.

Seems they admit everything else about me is a lost cause.

“Come on, please. I’ll put extra effort into the care package. You must be bored anyway, right?”

“But I have Smash Bros…”

“You’re bored, I knew it.”

And just like that, my precious Sunday was booked up for nursing Sayo back to health.

“Oh? Are you heading out, Hideyori?”

“I’ve been asked to do a favor by the master.”

“Goodness, little brother’s got it tough. Take care now.”

Waved off by the auntie, I pedaled my bike towards the café.

“I don’t usually wait, but today I did!”

“Are you serious about leaving?”

“Come on, don’t be so prickly.”

“The usual.”

“Why do you look so relaxed!?”

I took a seat at the counter and ordered, but unfortunately, it seems there will be no coffee today.

“Sorry, it’s tough without the missus around. And since the daughter prefers Hideyori for nursing, I didn’t bother asking her.”

“Doubt. As if Sayo would say something so cute.”

“I didn’t call for you, scoundrel. Leave,” is the only future conversation I can imagine with her.

Apparently, I’m her first friend, but she doesn’t seem to like me much, so it can’t be helped.

“She does say cute things like that… Honestly, I’d like to see Hideyori and Sayo get together.”

“A no-good guy and a no-good girl as a couple? That’s just awful. Besides, isn’t a master usually the ‘I won’t let you lay a finger on my daughter!’ type? What’s with trying to pair them up?”

“If I can see my grandchild’s face, that’s compromise enough for me.”

“Did you just say ‘compromise’?”

“I quite like Hideyori, you know.”

“I’m not going to remarry the master, okay?”

“Neither will I.”

Maybe it’s because my mental age is close to the master’s, but we’ve developed a relationship where we speak our minds bluntly.

I see him as a kind of delinquent older brother with a foul mouth.

“If you go up to the second floor, you’ll find Sakuya’s room, so please take care of it.”

“Sure thing!”

It was, come to think of it, my first time entering the master’s house, which also served as a cafe.

After taking off my shoes and walking through, I found several rooms, but spotting the one with a “Sakuya” sign, I knocked and entered Sakuya’s room.

Stepping into the room first, I saw… a tapestry hanging, and she was right there, close by.

“Ugh… I feel like I’m dying, help me, Master.”

“…………”

Collapsed on the bed, the first thing that caught my eye was Sakuya, bedridden with a cold.

I wrung out a towel from a bucket filled with ice water and replaced the one on Sakuya’s forehead with it.

“It’s cold!?… Be gentle with me.”

“You’re quite demanding.”

“Is that you, Hideyori…?”

“Yeah, it’s me.”

From noble mtl dot come

I answered her question while soaking the lukewarm towel back in the ice water.

“I’ve missed you, Hideyori… No one but you or Master could do this for me.”

“What’s gotten into you all of a sudden?”

I wonder if what Master said about wanting me to nurse her was true.

That must have been an exaggerated story.

“Ugh… I’m going to die, I’m going to die.”

“You’ll be fine, it’s just a cold, right?”

“But even a common cold caused many deaths in the Edo period, didn’t it?”

“What era’s child are you…?”

She’s always been amusing with her random talks.

…But seeing Sakuya weak and disheartened, there’s a certain charm to her vulnerability.
