Baicheng is bustling with people and excitement, which dilutes the cold atmosphere of late autumn.
In the teahouse on the street, several merchants were taking a rest.
A young businessman asked casually: "Brother, how much did you collect the ginseng in Beihuang City this time?"
The middle-aged businessman sighed: "Oh, forget it, ten years of red ginseng, one or two sticks."
"My dear mother! Why is it so expensive?"
The middle-aged merchant smiled bitterly and said: "The price is the same now, but in a few days, the price will double again!"
Everyone else sighed in unison, and someone said: "Now the barbarian price is one per day. If you don't buy it, I will drive you to buy it with a knife. Anyway, after this trip, I will never go there again."
The young businessman was first shocked and then angry: "Does the court not care about it?"
The middle-aged businessman sneered, took a sip of tea, and then replied angrily: "Care? Why care? Those soldiers at the border have been fed by barbarians for a long time. Let alone beating people, they can't even catch a rabbit. !”
Someone else took advantage of the drunkenness and said, "Oh, even if the imperial court knew about this matter, they wouldn't dare to take care of it!" He pointed to the sky with a sneer, "If the barbarians are displeased, the emperor will do it." I can’t even sleep well!”
"Hush! Silence! You don't want your life! You dare to say anything!"
The merchants were just chatting and talking casually, but when they saw someone drunk and drunk, they didn't dare to stay any longer and left one after another.
The young man at the next table who had been facing away from the businessman put down his tea cup. Most of his face was hidden in the bamboo hat and could not be seen clearly. Only his lips were tightly pursed and sharp as a knife.
"It looks like the world is going to be in chaos again."
The young man raised his eyes and looked across. The young man with a high ponytail poured himself a cup of tea with a calm expression. His eyes were cold and he said, "But this has nothing to do with us."
The young man was silent.
The young man glanced at him and warned: "You and I are no longer in the mortal world. Whatever happens in this world has nothing to do with us. Don't be confused!"
The young man lowered his hat and let out a low "hmm".
The young man breathed a sigh of relief and turned to other topics, "After Zhan Chenyuan returns home, you should be able to break through the foundation building, right?"
"perhaps."
"As expected of being born with Taoism, he has advanced thousands of miles with each passing day." The young man said with a smile: "Comparatively speaking, the Buddha's son that the Buddha has been waiting for for a hundred years is nothing more than this."
"…Why do you say this?"
"In the past ten years, have you heard anything about him outside? As long as he can enter the country, the Pure Land Sect can hide it so tightly? It must be because he is not talented enough. The Pure Land Sect wants to kill people for the sake of their own face. Lock him up and prevent him from being embarrassed."
The boy continued to remain silent. The young man also knew his boring personality and was not bothered by it. He continued to express his opinion: "Buddhism has been in decline for a hundred years. Originally, we wanted to rely on Buddhist disciples to make a comeback, but now it seems to be in decline. Let's see what Buddhism can do with us in the future. earn!"
The young man put down his teacup and asked concisely: "Senior brother, can you leave?"
"Let's go!" The young man hurriedly drank the tea in the cup, wiped his lips, picked up the long sword, and put the tea money on the table. The two stood up and walked out of the teahouse, as if two drops of water merged into the sea of people, without attracting any attention.
The waiter in the teahouse passed by the empty table and was surprised to find two slings of tea money placed on the table. He wondered: "That's strange, was there anyone sitting at this table just now?"
…
The two brothers walked out of the city gate. After no one was around, the young man took off the cloth bag he was carrying and pulled out a long sword from it. The next moment, the two long swords were unsheathed, and they stepped on the swords at the same time, disappearing in an instant.
In front of the Linqing Mountain Gate, several Taoist boys were cleaning. Suddenly there was a sudden sword light, and a young man wearing a bamboo hat stepped on a long sword and flew quickly over the mountain gate.
The little Taoist boys looked up and stared at the black shadow flying far away, their eyes full of envy, and they started talking in twos and threes:
"Senior Brother Su is back! And Senior Brother Teng!"
"I wonder what the two senior brothers are doing out there."
"Perhaps to go to Zhanchen Yuan?"
"I heard that Senior Brother Su has already reached the late stage of Foundation Establishment."
"Ah! Won't we reach the heartbeat stage soon?"
"Senior Brother Su has only been here ten years, right?"
"Senior Brother Su is born with Taoism. It is normal for his realm to improve so quickly."
…
The young man, Su Jian, said goodbye to his fellow disciples, and stopped in front of his cave halfway up Lingyun Peak with his sword.
He took off his hat and finally showed his face. His eyes are bright and resolute, his mouth is tight, and his whole person is like a sharp blade unsheathed, with an intimidating energy. Ten years of monastic life have completely transformed him, from the impetuous young man who used to be carefree to the cool and steady person he is now.
Su Jian unlocked the restriction in front of the door, walked to the cave, hurriedly spread out the letter paper, and wrote down all the things he had experienced in the mortal world during the two years of Zhanchenyuan.
When Su Jian finished writing the last word, she was in a trance.
This letter is addressed to Le Jing.
He has sent many letters like this for more than ten years.
He and Le Jing have not seen each other for more than ten years.
The last time he saw Le Jing was when he was ordained. Because of his previous friendship with the Buddha, he was able to go to the Pure Land Sect with the leader to observe the ceremony.
Even though more than ten years have passed, he can still clearly recall what Le Jing looked like at that time.
In the room full of gods and Buddhas, who were silently gazing at each other, the little boy sat on the futon, surrounded by Buddha smoke, Sanskrit sounds, and low Buddha chants. The old monk stood behind him and cut off his hair with a razor, revealing his light blue scalp.
The boy's eyebrows were lowered, his expression was peaceful, his body was upright and motionless, the golden candlelight was pressing on his body, and his divine light was hidden, just like a small Buddha statue.
Cultivation has no time, and twelve years have passed in a flash. The boy back then must have grown into a teenager now.
The Pure Land Sect and the Linqing Sect, one in the south and one in the north, almost spanned the entire Liang Dynasty. Therefore, he and Le Jing had not seen each other in these years and had always exchanged letters.
Le Jing has been in seclusion for many years, so he always writes letters to inform him of outside news.
Thinking of all the things he had seen and heard in the mortal world in the past two years, Su Jian frowned deeply and let out a sigh.
Things are going to change.
He dried the ink and took out a lotus lamp from the storage bag. The blue candle flame was faint at the stamen, and the letter penetrated the flames and disappeared immediately.
…
The breeze is gentle, the bamboo forest is rustling, and deep in the bamboo leaves stands a thatched house, and the dull sound of wooden fish comes from the thatched house.
A young man was sitting in a thatched house with his eyes closed, a red mole on his eyebrow that looked as charming as blood. He was counting rosary beads with one hand and tapping the wooden fish leisurely with the other hand.
After an unknown amount of time, the young man opened his eyes, his eyes shining with golden light, flowing with the solemnity of ancient gold. His eyebrows were indifferent, and the pale golden Buddha light emanated from the red lotus beneath him. The yellow monk's robe moved without wind, and shone slightly under the influence of the Buddha's light. From a distance, it looked like a god and Buddha had come to the world.
After a few breaths, the golden light all over the young man's body disappeared, the hem of the monk's robe fell, and the wind in the bamboo forest stopped.
The flame on the white lotus lamp holder trembled, and a letter spit out from it.
Le Jing stretched out his hand, and the letter flew into his hand accurately.
Le Jing opened the letter and saw Su Jian's familiar handwriting.
Because he had been practicing in seclusion these years, Su Jian could only tell him information about the outside world through letters from Su Jian.
This time Su Jian's letter told him something very important.
The border is getting more and more chaotic.
Beihuang City is located in the far north of Daliang, adjacent to the grassland tribes. It has been a place of war and disputes since ancient times.
Especially after the national power of Liang Dynasty weakened day by day, and the army had lost its blood for a long time during the peace, every autumn and winter, the grassland tribes would go to the border cities to fight against the autumn wind, and committed such evil acts as robbing, raping women, and massacring the people.
Therefore, people in Daliang called them barbarians with hatred and fear.
But the disputes in the world cannot interfere with the purity of Buddhism.
Pure Land monks chant sutras day after day to save the dead ghosts.
Especially after the human-monster war a hundred years ago, Beihuang City was one of the main battlefields, and hundreds of thousands of monster corpses were buried underground. The human-monster war ended with the human race winning and the demon race retreating to the snowy plains.
Beihuang City has completely become a dead city, with soul-locking ghosts floating around in the city all year round.
If it weren't for the Pure Land Sect's purification and salvation that lasted for several years, the souls of all the people in the city would have been captured by resentful ghosts.
It's just that the barbarians have made frequent small moves in recent years and are becoming more and more restless.
Although they are collectively called barbarians, there are more than a dozen grassland tribes, large and small, occupying the grasslands. Originally, they were just fighting among themselves and did little harm to Daliang, so the emperor of Daliang could rest easy.
But things are different now.
Under the leadership of a strong leader, the grassland tribes were twisted into a rope from the scattered sands before, and their ambitions became more and more swollen.
In addition, since the human-monster war a hundred years ago, the demon clan has been living on the grassland since its defeat, mixing with the barbarians and becoming a serious problem in the world of cultivation.
Now that Daliang is weak, there must be a battle between the barbarians and Daliang.
That future war may be fulfilled here.
Lejing has been in seclusion for ten years since entering the Pure Land Sect.
The common people are in trouble, and it’s time to break through and go down the mountain.
Le Jing stood up, smoothed the wrinkles on the monk's clothes, and walked out of the thatched house slowly.
The bamboo forest is quiet and quiet, and the monks in yellow clothes stroll among them, which adds a lot of Zen to the scene.
When walking out of the bamboo forest, Le Jing saw the familiar monk's robes.
The familiar old man was holding a rosary and looking at him with a smile.
Le Jing bowed slightly and clasped his hands together, "Master."
Huitong asked: "Where are you going?"
Le Jing respectfully replied: "Go where I should go."
Huitong looked at his most trusted and beloved disciple, his eyes slowly filled with a hint of regret and sigh, "Back then at the Surangama Conference, Sakyamuni Buddha asked the great Bodhisattvas how to enter meditation and gain enlightenment. Do you still remember Mahasthamaprapta’s answer?”
The young monk lowered his eyes and replied: "When the Buddha asks about enlightenment, I have no choice. All six roots are taken in, and pure thoughts are followed one after another. This is the first to achieve samadhi."
"All six sense organs are captured, how can one explain the pure thoughts one after another?"
"The six roots are pure, there are no distracting thoughts, and the chanting of Buddha is continuous."
Huitong stared at him, "Do you still want to go where you should go?"
"My disciple is not talented. Now he only remembers the twelve great wishes made by the Medicine Buddha."
Huitong's cheeks trembled, and a rare look of despair appeared on his face.
He tried to persuade her almost in vain: "The path you are on is full of karmic obstacles. The world's karma brings you great retribution and few good results. Even so, do you still want to go?"
Under the sunlight, the young monk's eyes are clear inside and out, without blemishes. His cheeks are as white as jade, elegant and gentle, just like the white jade enshrined in front of the Buddha. Every move is permeated with the sacred Buddha nature.
He raised his head and raised his eyes. The red mole on his forehead became more and more vivid. His glass pupils were filled with golden mist. His voice was loud and solemn: "I wish that in the next life, when I attain Bodhi, my body will be like glass, clear inside and out, pure and flawless, and bright and vast. My merits will be great, my body will be well settled, and my spirit will be solemn and majestic. It will be better than the sun and the moon. All the living beings in the netherworld will be enlightened and can do whatever they want."
"I wish that in the next life, when I attain Bodhi, I will help all sentient beings to escape from the devil and free themselves from all the entanglements of the outsiders. If they fall into the dense forest of various evil views, I will lead them to the right view and gradually make them practice the Bodhisattva practices and realize the supreme Bodhi."
This is the second and ninth wish of the twelve great wishes of Medicine Buddha. The boy used these two wishes to express his ambitions.
Save all sentient beings and drive away evil demons.
Hui Tong once again recalled the words of the young man he heard in the illusion that day: "I ask the Buddha, if killing one person can save the people, is it a sin or a merit?"
"I ask the Buddha, if slaughtering a city can save a country, is it thunder or instant Buddhahood?"
From then on, Hui Tong understood that their Buddhist disciples were on the Shura Road of killing to prove Buddhahood. If they were not careful, they might fall into the devil.
Hui Tong looked at the young man with eyes full of struggle and reluctance. Finally, he sighed and his eyes returned to calm: "Go."
Le Jing bowed his head: "Thank you, Master."
Hui Tong continued: "If there really is such a day... I will kill you myself, which is considered to be the friendship between us as master and apprentice."
