#528 - 519. Arrogant Humans
Ma En's words left Callett speechless, unsure how to respond, even though he knew the true answer. Ma En's argument was enough to prove Shenxiao's strength.
If Shenxiao's world truly opposed acts of unkindness and injustice, then her ability to do what Ma En described would indeed prove her power. However, Callett didn't believe Shenxiao lived in the dire environment Ma En portrayed.
He knew humans weren't as awful as the Titans' books and cultural products depicted, but he couldn't use that as a counterargument without opposing all Titans.
Seizing the moment of his hesitation, Ma En retorted:
"I basically understand what you're trying to do. I don't even expect to return to the land alive, so, whether you find it offensive or not, I want to say a few sincere words."
Callett frowned upon hearing this:
"Just answer my question."
"Tell me now, what proves Shenxiao's existence?"
Despite the threatening tone, Ma En, having finally cornered Callett, showed no sign of backing down, shaking his head slightly:
"Sorry, but I'm fed up with your stupid questions."
Callett narrowed his eyes and raised his hand, saying coldly:
"Seize him."
But as several Titans rushed toward Ma En, Zasna stepped forward, scolding:
"Callett! What are you doing? Do you think you can do whatever you want because Mother is asleep?"
The Titans, who had already moved forward, halted abruptly, because Callett's order didn't fully comply with standard procedures. He wasn't authorized to do that at this time, hence Zasna's accusation that he thought he could do as he pleased.
Callett nonchalantly replied:
"If you think I'm incompetent, have your mother remove me. But since she gave me this position, it means she trusts me."
Despite his words, he didn't seem to be trying to have his subordinates seize Ma En, as if his actions were just a test for Zasna.
Zasna said nothing more, simply telling Ma En:
"Continue."
Callett turned to Ma En:
"You said we were stupid."
Ma En didn't hold back:
"Indeed, because your questions imply that I must desperately explain why Shenxiao is truly powerful, but I have no hope of leaving here alive…"
"So, I'll be blunt: you're too arrogant."
Callett looked at Ma En with amusement:
"You think we're arrogant? A human thinks Titans are arrogant?"
Ma En pointed at him:
"Yes, exactly as you are now. And your questions imply that if I can't convince you of Shenxiao's power, you'll destroy human civilization or make my people pay a terrible price."
"It's as if you are the judges of human civilization, deciding our fate based on my testimony."
"But there's a problem…"
"You can't decide our fate."
Callett sneered:
"You think we're not your match?"
Ma En nodded confidently:
"That's right. I don't even want to explain why Shenxiao is powerful, because no matter what I say, the outcome won't change. You can't defeat the Federation allied with her."
"I even suspect you can't threaten humanity's existence at all, because if you could, she would have noticed you long ago."
"And if she hasn't seen you, it can only mean you can't threaten the human world."
Callett scoffed:
"It seems you don't understand the extent of what Titan civilization can do…"
"Maybe I don't know the specifics," Ma En interrupted, "but I know you're all hiding here, afraid to face the gods, while Shenxiao alone can defeat all the gods."
"If Shenxiao didn't have other threats to deal with, she could keep beating those gods back into slumber. If you could defeat her, you wouldn't be hiding here."
Most of the Titans were furious upon hearing this, but they couldn't find any rebuttal. Only Callett stubbornly resisted:
"Shenxiao only exists in your words. What you say may not be true…"
Ma En retorted:
"Since you Titans are so powerful, why not send some spies to the mainland to ask about Shenxiao's name? Or are you worried that the gods Shenxiao easily defeated will seize the opportunity to attack you?"
"But Shenxiao fears nothing. In fact, many forces, including the gods, fear Shenxiao."
Even Callett didn't know how to argue after this. He could still find other reasons to explain why they didn't contact the mainland, but it was pointless to say them now.
Ma En's performance proved everything. He had already abandoned all thoughts of survival, so he had no reason to lie. To refute him, Callett would have to present real evidence.
But he had nothing to offer. The Titans couldn't risk contacting the gods for this matter—to the Titans, the humans within the Southern Federation could also be considered gods.
The most important reason they didn't refute Ma En was that they were gradually believing his words.
If Ma En didn't truly believe these things, he couldn't have acted this way.
Callett suddenly thought of something:
"But didn't you say Shenxiao was defeated?"
Ma En smiled:
"Yes, as a former member of the Savior Alliance, it's regrettable to me, because the Federation wants to turn Shenxiao into their own weapon, and Shenxiao absolutely doesn't want that to happen."
"So, it's bad news for both Shenxiao and me, but make no mistake, it's not good news for you either."
"Because the purpose of this Federation is to maintain the dominance of human civilization, and this subtle difference is the root of their conflict with Shenxiao, and you clearly threaten human dominance."
"So, you will face Shenxiao, and an organization even stronger than Shenxiao."
"You should remember, right? The Federation defeated Shenxiao."
