I created the Bureau of Anomaly Control
#526 - 517. First Show of Claws
Maen was practically escorted to his destination. The Titan team pushed him into a room, then stood in silence with him. Zhasna and Ilo didn't say anything to Maen either, because all the Titans except them were in a state of high tension, now that they had left the prison.
Although Zhasna acted naturally when bringing Maen to that prison, it was actually the most heavily guarded prison in Nine City. The seemingly ordinary entrance was specifically designed to trick prisoners.
Unless a prisoner was a Tier V ability user, they had no chance of escaping that prison. Even most Tier V ability users could only be held back for a few minutes. Therefore, after leaving, the Titans were somewhat nervous, having all heard of Seraine's espionage in Cude Street.
In this atmosphere, Maen naturally said nothing, simply standing in the center of the room, keeping himself in the Titans' sight, trying not to agitate their nervous little hearts.
The Titans' silence after entering the room also made Maen realize something. They must already be on their way to their destination, and this was probably their security measure against him.
Indeed, after a few minutes, Zhasna's expression changed slightly, and the other Titans looked a little more relaxed, as if they no longer worried about their safety.
As a complex mechanical whirring sounded, the wall directly in front of Maen began to rapidly deform and disassemble, revealing a narrow metal passage. When Maen was pushed out, he realized the true nature of the room.
Outside the passage was a spacious circular hall, and behind him was a magnificent and intricate giant airship. The room they had just been in was merely a cabin inside this airship. He hadn't felt any turbulence only because the Titans' technology was superb.
"Keep moving forward," Ilo said, scolding Maen, who had slowed his pace slightly.
Maen immediately increased his speed, carried by the crowd out of the sealed giant hall and into a seemingly ordinary corridor. After winding around for several kilometers, he finally saw a wooden door of ordinary height when he rounded the last corner.
Zhasna, at the head of the group, pushed open the door, revealing the scene behind it.
Inside was a slightly smaller circular hall compared to the previous one, but large enough to hold a few hundred people. Indeed, dozens of fully armed Titan soldiers stood there, with a tall male figure standing in front of them.
"Black," Zhasna said, naming the Titan.
As she spoke, Maen looked up at the dome of the hall, where some blurry shadows were constantly flowing, as if some evil power was surging outside the hall.
Noticing Maen's expression, Zhasna turned to him and said gently:
"There are many people watching us."
Seeing that she had finally returned to her usual tone, Maen immediately asked:
"What exactly is going on?"
But hearing Maen's question, Zhasna's tone became slightly more formal:
"Callett, representing all the Titans including myself, will ask you questions. Just answer truthfully."
Zhasna had deliberately acted coldly towards Maen on this journey. Of course, she didn't suddenly have any objections to Maen. If she could, she would have liked to give Maen a few words of advice in advance.
But she couldn't do that. Their goal was to keep Maen ignorant until he arrived here, so that he would be questioned and tested by the Titans without any preparation.
Moreover, even if she wanted Maen to persuade the Titans who held the power, he had to tell the truth. If he couldn't even withstand Callett's interrogation, then he probably had some problems himself.
Even though she seemed relaxed in front of Maen, she had never truly let down her guard.
She knew how terrifying the ancient gods were.
"You are Maen? The human?" The Titan standing at the front asked him.
Maen took half a step forward and stood out:
"That's right, I am the human who strayed into this place."
This was the first time Callett had really seen Maen. He was also sizing up this human. Ilo had described the process of capturing this human in detail to him, so Callett had the most basic expectations of Maen.
And Maen indeed met his initial expectations. This human's expression was fairly calm when entering here, but that was about it. He was not on the same level as those legendary figures at all.
Callett didn't particularly look down on humans like many Titans. He actually believed from the bottom of his heart that there were still many admirable guys among humans, after all, he also knew about the war of the past.
When fighting against the gods, countless heroic humans emerged one after another. The Thirteen Kings who now lead the flesh and machine Titans are precisely those outstanding humans of that time.
So in fact, he could be considered to have close contact and relationship with the ancient humans, and he knew very well how noble real humans could be, but the problem was how much glory did today's humans still have.
At least he didn't detect this sign in Maen.
This was good news for him.
"I will represent all the Titans of Nine City to question and examine you," Callett said with a cold face. "Next, you must answer each of my questions truthfully, without any concealment or misleading.
"If I find out that you have any tricks, you will be executed by us immediately, understand?"
Maen fell into a brief silence, seemingly frightened by the words 'executed immediately.' Seeing this scene, Callett once again confirmed that his judgment was correct, and the other Titans were not particularly surprised.
Because Maen didn't remain silent for long, and soon calmly gave his answer again:
"I understand."
Callett wasn't surprised, after all, Maen had no other choice.
"Very well, first question," he asked. "You frequently mentioned this human called Shenxiao Walker to Zhasna, claiming that she has unparalleled power, so I want to know…
"Do you know her?"
Maen paused for a few seconds, then said:
"Although we are not very familiar, I have indeed met her a few times, and she also knows my name, so I should barely be considered to know her."
Callett nodded slightly and said:
"In other words, your views and judgments on Shenxiao are likely to be mixed with your own subjective personal feelings.
"Am I right?"
