I am farming in the real world

#29 - That’s great!

Chapter 29: Good job, Iron Five!

There are many different ways to die in the MC game.

The most common include drowning, swimming in lava, being blown up by Creepers, being crushed, falling out of the world, and so on. Each of these methods has been personally verified by countless players and griefers.

Falling to one's death from a high place is just one of the many ways to die in MC.

To meet this condition, an unequipped player or monster must fall from a height of 23.5 blocks.

This is the so-called 'death height' in MC.

However, Chen Jue vaguely remembered that there are several creatures in the game that can ignore fall damage. Creatures like chickens, ocelots, Ghasts, and Iron Golems have natural 'fall protection'.

Logically, an Iron Golem shouldn't die from falling from any height, but the scene unfolding underground before his eyes defied the original game's settings.

"An Iron Golem with 50 health points can die from a single fall."

"Just how deep is it down there?" Chen Jue muttered.

Of course, he was mainly upset about the 10,000 yuan he spent buying the skin.

10,000 yuan in the real world could be several months' salary for a low-income person. In his hands, it vanished in just a few hours. It was truly hard to take.

Fortunately, Iron Five's sacrifice wasn't in vain.

Besides alerting Chen Jue to the danger, its death also helped its boss scout out a hidden danger buried beneath their property.

If these Iron Golems hadn't helped dig downwards, Chen Jue couldn't imagine if he had stubbornly dug straight down, whether he would have fallen to his death as well.

After all, he was a living person with flesh and blood, unlike the Steve in the game who could respawn infinitely.

Even with this MC system, he wouldn't dare to gamble with his life, to take a leap of faith.

"Earth OL, only allows one playthrough."

"There's no such thing as starting a new game?"

Chen Jue felt a mix of relief and lingering fear as he prepared a few 【Buckets of Water】 in his inventory.

This was one of the essential self-rescue tools for MC players. In the event of a sudden fall, pouring water beneath one's feet could buy some reaction time.

...

"No other dangers? Just a fatal fall?"

After a brief conversation with Iron One, Chen Jue, fully armed, followed Iron One back into the water column.

Seeing the bubble icon appear on the system page, just like in the game, Chen Jue quickly swam downwards, holding a torch in his hand.

With the infinitely generated water column, Chen Jue no longer felt the same fear of the abyss below.

From top to bottom, he swam down the water column. Upon reaching the dark rocky area at the bottom, Chen Jue planted torches all around.

Under the illumination of the torches, an extremely narrow V-shaped underground canyon appeared in Chen Jue's line of sight.

The surrounding air was moist and murky, and there were signs of an underground river having flowed through the area, with pebbles scattered everywhere, indicating a possible water source nearby.

Wenshi is located in the middle of the Pacific coastline of mainland China, close to a seismic zone off the southeast coast. It is frequently affected by earthquakes, so it's normal for such canyon fissures to form deep underground.

It's just that the depth of this underground canyon was somewhat terrifying!

After inspecting the surrounding environment, Chen Jue picked up 【Stone】 blocks and began to jump and place them beneath his feet, following the previous water column all the way to the illuminated vertical shaft above.

When he saw the heads of the Iron Two and the others poking out, Chen Jue realized that he had used up more than 1300 【Stone】 blocks in his backpack.

Based on the size of 1 meter per block, this suddenly discovered underground V-shaped canyon reached an astonishing 1300 meters!

"No wonder Iron Five died instantly after falling."

"If it were me, ten lives wouldn't be enough to survive that height." Chen Jue sighed, and quickly ordered the Iron Golems to help build a staircase together.

...

It took some time to fill the underground canyon with torches.

With the help of the light, Chen Jue was finally able to see the entire V-shaped canyon.

"There's water and air, and if we flatten the surroundings, this place is a natural underground fortress!" Chen Jue surveyed the surroundings and began to calculate in his mind.

Since this canyon appeared beneath his property, he should make the most of it.

He first had the Iron Golems start working according to his plans. With the aid of MC tools, digging out a large, square underground construction was very simple.

Chen Jue himself, along with Iron One, followed the narrow path at the bottom of the canyon in the direction the wind was blowing.

When encountering impassable terrain, he would use the 【Stone Pickaxe】 to break it open.

After traveling hundreds of meters and rounding a bend, he finally saw an almost dry underground stream.

The water was very shallow, only ankle-deep, and pebbles were scattered everywhere.

"There's air and water, which means there must be a source somewhere."

"I need to block the source, lest outsiders sneak in and discover my underground base in the future," Chen Jue thought to himself.

Following the stream uphill, searching for almost half an hour, Chen Jue finally felt a gust of air from outside the underground in a crack where water was seeping from the top.

He raised his 【Stone Pickaxe】 and dug open the top, then climbed out by placing stones as footholds.

Upon climbing out of the slippery crack, he was greeted by the high-hanging bright moon and the surrounding overgrown environment.

The scent of grass filled his nostrils, and the sound of rushing water could be heard in the distance, along with the faint chirping of frogs, insects, and birds on a summer night.

"This seems to be the source of the reservoir!"

"I've been here before!"

"Did I really go that far?"

Chen Jue surveyed the surrounding environment, took out his phone to locate himself, and confirmed that he was at the source of the Chencun Reservoir in the back mountain.

This place was rarely visited, but the water source was very clean.

In the past, villagers had invested heavily nearby, spending millions to build a breeding base, specializing in raising giant salamanders (娃娃鱼), an edible and rare amphibian.

Giant salamanders are very particular about the quality of their habitat, and any carelessness could lead to breeding failure.

That's why, in its heyday, giant salamander meat could sell for thousands of yuan per kilogram.

It wasn't until large-scale breeding techniques became widespread and giant salamander production increased that the price dropped to a cheap price of dozens of yuan per kilogram, indirectly leading to the failure and bankruptcy of that breeding base.

"No wonder there's a small stream underground, the water seeps down from the source of the reservoir."

Chen Jue glanced at the abandoned breeding base hidden in the jungle, and roughly formed a preliminary geographical outline of the underground canyon in his mind.

The location of that underground canyon was directly below the mountain where the Chencun Reservoir was located.

Because the location was deep enough and the canyon was narrow, it didn't cause any signs of collapse or subsidence.

According to Chen Jue's speculation, that special terrain and landform had existed for at least hundreds of thousands of years, or even longer.

Having grown up in Chencun, Chen Jue had never heard of anyone discovering its entrance.

In this way, he could boldly use that underground canyon to develop his own business.

"Let's go back!"

"Fill in the cracks at the entrance!"

"As for the air, we can use the vertical shaft in the storage room at home to import it in the future."

After figuring this out, Chen Jue immediately took Iron One and went back.

First, he sealed the entrance with rubble from the outside, and then covered the underground with dirt blocks and stone blocks to isolate it from the outside world.

Then, Chen Jue slowly returned to the location of his underground base, following the original path.

During the return, he also placed stone blocks to block the small paths that people could pass through, ensuring that even if someone broke in, it would be difficult to continue deeper.

However, when Chen Jue spent some time arriving at the V-shaped canyon, the Iron Golems, who were busy working, immediately put down the 【Stone Pickaxe】 in their hands when they saw him return, and ran over holding a block with brown spots, as if to ask for credit: "Bo...Boss! Iron...Iron ore here!"

Hearing this, Chen Jue's face suddenly revealed a look of ecstasy: "What? Iron ore? Iron Five, your death was worth it! Good job!"

He quickly took the block and looked at it. A string of subtitles popped up:

【Ultra-Poor Iron Ore: An underground ore with extremely low mining value, containing 3.76% iron content.】
