I am farming in the real world

#16 - The second big harvest

Chapter 16: Second Round - A Great Harvest

Nighttime in the old Chen Village residence, underground.

Chen Jue was taking the fresh eggs he'd purchased during the day, smashing them one by one into the chicken coop.

He had bought a full thousand fresh Xianju chicken breed eggs on this trip.

Puff, puff, puff – they flew from his hands, and each one that landed hatched into a mosaic chick with brown feathers.

In less than two minutes, the previously sparse chicken coop became lively.

The sounds of 'cluck cluck' rose and fell, and the entire chicken coop was filled with chicks pecking at the ground.

Although it was unclear what they were pecking at, seeing this large, swarming group of chicks made Chen Jue couldn't help but smile like an old lady doting on her grandchildren.

After all, they were fluffy little animals, and such a large group of them was truly the best!

But most noteworthy was that among these chicks were 20 that were slightly larger, appearing to be nearing adulthood.

"It'll be 48 hours tomorrow morning.

If it really follows the game's settings, then this first batch of chicks should be ready to leave the coop,"

Chen Jue said with anticipation on his face.

Because the MC bayberries produced before were so amazing, these carefully selected MC chickens shouldn't be too bad either.

After experiencing the doubled joy of smashing eggs to hatch chicks, Chen Jue glanced at the patches of green vegetables in this Pit 1.

The first batch of vegetables planted included five types: Shanghai bok choy, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, and rapeseed.

But the fastest-growing was the smallest, Shanghai bok choy.

According to Chen Jue's calculations, this batch of Shanghai bok choy had actually crossed two growth stages in just 36 hours and reached maturity, ready for harvesting.

The remaining four vegetables were still developing.

It was clear that if Chen Jue wanted to bet on a fast-growing vegetable to quickly ship and sell in large quantities, he had to start with this "Shanghai bok choy."

After recording this new discovery in his notebook, Chen Jue grinned, "Second round, a great harvest!"

He grabbed a [Wooden Stick] and 'SaSaSa~' scraped all the way across.

Accompanied by the crisp and pleasant 'biubiu~' sound, squares of Shanghai bok choy burst out of the soil, rapidly filling Chen Jue's system backpack at an exaggerated rate of ×64 per square, just like the MC bayberries before.

"One square can actually produce 50 Shanghai bok choy!"

"This yield is truly heaven-defying!"

Chen Jue looked at his already full backpack, then back at the squares he had just cleared, and he became quite excited.

Without rushing to empty his backpack, he continued scraping.

After clearing all 200+ squares of mature Shanghai bok choy, Chen Jue repeated the trick, using Alt + Left Click to import them all into the plastic crates he had bought in the afternoon.

Unexpectedly, just after harvesting this first batch of over ten thousand Shanghai bok choy, the green experience bar on the MC interface suddenly leveled up with a 'pling' sound!

The character level displayed above changed from "0" to "1" in an instant.

However, somewhat surprisingly, Chen Jue didn't feel any magical changes in his body after leveling up.

"It seems that the character level is the same as in the game's settings, useless, it can't turn me from an ordinary person into an extraordinary one,"

"The experience points accumulated from farming can probably only be used to enchant tools later after the [Enchanting Table] is made,"

Chen Jue analyzed, stroking his chin.

After harvesting the first batch of vegetables, Chen Jue took advantage of the late-night hours to cook himself a plate of MC Shanghai bok choy in the kitchen to taste, and to scrape off some of the grease accumulated from the big meal at noon.

Unexpectedly, the taste of this system-produced Shanghai bok choy wasn't as amazing as the MC bayberries.

It could only be described as ordinary, no different from the Shanghai bok choy he bought at the farmers market or supermarket.

After thinking it over, Chen Jue figured it was probably a matter of seed quality.

The seedlings he initially selected at the morning market in the neighboring village, except for the chicken and fruit tree seedlings, all had [Vigorous] + [Excellent] attributes.

The remaining vegetable seeds, due to their small size and large quantity, couldn't be carefully selected, so Chen Jue just bought a batch of [Healthy] mixed with [Ordinary] and [Good] attribute vegetable seeds.

As the saying goes, you reap what you sow.

Even with the MC system's assistance, the vegetables grown without top-quality seeds would naturally taste ordinary.

However, Chen Jue didn't feel any dislike for this ordinary-tasting MC Shanghai bok choy.

On the contrary, he felt that the more ordinary these high-volume vegetables were, the better!

Because the more ordinary they were, the easier they would be to sell, and the less they would arouse others' covetousness.

If they were as outstanding as the MC bayberries before, it would be difficult to explain the origin of these Shanghai bok choy.

So, after understanding this, Chen Jue grabbed a [Stone Hoe] and a plastic bucket, went back down into the pit, and reopened a large area of new planting land in Pit 2.

He sowed all the remaining Shanghai bok choy seeds, looking forward to a new round of great harvest in a day and a half.

The second day, before the rooster crowed, the alarm clock set on the bedside table started ringing at 3 AM.

Chen Jue, trying this early wake-up for the first time, relied on the motivation of earning money to pay off debts and forcibly woke himself up from his sleep.

"Luckily, I went to bed early last night,"

"Otherwise, this first vegetable supplier trip would have been ruined!"

Chen Jue glanced outside the window, where it was still dark, and neatly went to wash up, using the cold tap water to clear his head.

Staring at his increasingly awake reflection in the mirror, he suddenly remembered a joke online: a silly netizen who, after losing his job, impulsively opened a breakfast shop, only for it to fail not long after.

When netizens asked him how it failed?

The silly netizen who opened the shop replied that it wasn't because his breakfast wasn't delicious, but because he couldn't wake up early in the morning, which ruined the business.

Opening a breakfast shop is like selling vegetables, both are hard jobs that require waking up early.

In this era where everyone scrolls on their phones and stays up late, apart from those special professions that require working the night shift, very few young people wake up at 3 AM.

Carrying a backpack and breathing in the cool morning air, Chen Jue left the house, passed through the quiet Chen Village, and started driving the truck towards the Ruifeng line.

However, this time he didn't go to Ruixian County, but turned right at the T-junction, spending more than 50 minutes driving to the neighboring Wen City's Vegetable Basket Agricultural Products Wholesale Trading Market.

He had heard of the Vegetable Basket Market before, also because several of his Wencheng uncles had grown vegetables in the Ouhai District before retirement.

During the New Year and holidays, they would talk about it at the dinner table, knowing that being a vegetable farmer was a very hard job.

Getting up early and working late, with basically no rest on holidays except for the Spring Festival.

Occasionally, they would even brave the harsh typhoon weather to deliver vegetables to the Vegetable Basket Market, and a couple could save tens of thousands of yuan a year by being frugal.

How does that saying go?

The bigger the storm, the more expensive the fish!

Vegetables are like fish, their prices depend on the weather and market conditions.

However, Chen Jue was planning to rely on the MC system to sell vegetables in large quantities, so he wasn't afraid of market fluctuations or bad weather.

Turning the truck into the market, after familiarizing himself with the environment of the Vegetable Basket Market, he parked the car in an area where box trucks were clustered.

Because he found that these truck drivers, like him, were here to wholesale their goods.

They opened the back door and sat there, posted the price, and buyers would come and haggle with them face to face.

Since Chen Jue was running goods for the first time, he also pretended to open the back door of the truck, revealing the stacked Shanghai bok choy inside, and sat down with a plastic stool.

He also set up a cardboard sign that he had prepared last night, with the current wholesale price of Shanghai bok choy at 1.58 yuan/jin, and added a note at the bottom: "Cash payment preferred."

Soon, several buyers who were wandering nearby gathered around.

They first asked Chen Jue if the price could be lowered, and then reached in and picked out a few Shanghai bok choy, using flashlights to inspect them like quality inspectors.

When they found that none of Chen Jue's Shanghai bok choy had insect bites or yellowed leaves.

Each one was also covered with glistening dewdrops, looking very appetizing, the buyers who came to inspect the goods immediately brightened up.

"Young man, how many jins in this truck in total?"

"I'll take the whole thing!"

"Cash payment, right? I have cash here!"

One of the middle-aged uncles immediately offered to buy the whole truck, immediately pulling out a wad of cash from his bulging waist bag.

The other buyers on the side, seeing this situation, immediately started scolding: "Wu Lao San, I saw this truck first! What are you paying for?"

"That's right! You've already bought two trucks, you should let some out for us!"

"Wu Lao San, you % ¥ #!"

Several middle-aged men argued shamelessly, and Chen Jue was thoroughly entertained by the various fragrant sentences they spat out.

If it weren't for a few market managers in the distance, wearing red armbands, seeing the commotion and running over to stop them with whistles, Chen Jue would have wanted to move a small stool over, eat melon seeds, and learn some of the essence of the national quintessence.

"What's all the noise about?"

"Don't you know you can't shout loudly in the market?"

Several managers first persuaded the people to disperse.

Then, after going around to the driver's seat of Chen Jue's truck, which hadn't been licensed yet, and shining a light inside, the skinny manager leading the group frowned and questioned Chen Jue with a flashlight: "Hey, young man! I'm talking to you!"

"You haven't even processed the paperwork for this vehicle. Who authorized you to sell inside the market?"

"Do you even know the rules?!"
