Hollywood Director 1992
#5 - ticket
"Hey, buddy, you're finally awake. Your backpack was stolen."
Someone from the next seat said.
Link retracted his gazing eyes, looked down at his chest, and his heart sank.
Before going to sleep, he was worried about his bag being stolen, so he specially held his backpack in his arms while sleeping, but now his arms were empty.
Link was shocked. Was the videotape stolen?
Due to limited funds, he only copied two copies during the post-production of 'Buried'.
This book is first published on the entire network by π₯ π¨ π π π . π π π
One copy was given to the Sundance Film Festival organizers. After the film festival ended, it was unknown where it was discarded by the staff.
The second copy was kept in his hand. If it was stolen, all hope would be lost.
Sweat started to break out on Link's forehead.
"Buddy, did you lose valuables? The thieves were two black guys, and they had daggers in their hands. You can find the conductor to call the police."
The passenger in the next seat said.
Link was about to go find the conductor when he subconsciously touched his coat and felt a rectangular paper package. He immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
Considering that there were many thieves on American trains.
Before going to sleep, he specially put the videotape in his underwear, close to his chest, and the wallet on his belly, covered by the backpack.
As for the backpack, it only contained a few toiletries, three pairs of unwashed underwear, and half a roll of paper towels brought from the hotel.
He was just about to sit down and thank the passenger next to him when the conductor came to check tickets.
When taking a train in the United States, you don't need to check tickets when getting on and off the train, but the conductor will check tickets in the middle. People without tickets will be kicked off the train.
Link took the initiative to walk over and told the conductor in an angry tone that his luggage had been stolen by two black guys, and his ticket from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles had also been stolen. He hoped the conductor could help him find it back.
Link found the passenger next to him to testify.
Several people confirmed that this had indeed happened.
Link said that he was a director who came to Park City to participate in the Sundance Film Festival. He didn't expect to encounter thieves on the return trip. It was really a very unpleasant experience.
After the conductor understood the situation, he gave him a small label to replace the ticket, saying that the train would try its best to help him find the lost items.
Link took the small label and politely thanked the conductor.
"Hey, buddy, want a drink? Let's have a drink for your misfortune."
From the next seat, a young man handed over a can of Budweiser beer.
"Thank you, buddy! Thank you for reminding me."
Link said, taking the beer.
The young man across from him was about twenty years old, with short golden-brown hair and ordinary looks, not very distinctive. The only distinctive thing was that he looked seventy percent like the future movie star Matt Damon.
Beside him sat his companion, a taller and more handsome boy, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, with a very plain expression.
Whether Link's things were stolen or he was explaining to the conductor, the expression on the boy's face hardly changed, and he had no interest in speaking.
This boy also looked like Matt Damon's good buddy Ben Affleck, the male lead in 'Pearl Harbor'.
When these two people are together, besides an impersonation show, it's them themselves.
"You're welcome. Buddy, you just said you're a director, returning from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City?"
Matt Damon sized him up and down, seemingly wanting to judge his identity through his appearance.
Just from Link's appearance, there was nothing to see.
He was wearing a black long down jacket, blue jeans, the clothes were full of wrinkles, the jeans hadn't been washed for who knows how long, there were several obvious stains on the blue and white legs, the white sneakers were yellowing, and the laces were also black.
From this point of view, he had the disheveled appearance of most directors.
But he was too young, his appearance was handsome and childish, and his clothes were too poor.
As everyone knows, in the entertainment industry, people who are generally rich or have connections and resources are suitable to be directors, and poor people are only suitable to be actors, playing bit parts.
"Yes, I am a director. Last year I made a movie called 'Buried', which tells the story of a man being buried in a wooden box under a sandpit. He calls the police for help, but the police don't know where he is buried. At this time, the man needs to save himself..."
Link briefly described the plot of the movie 'Buried'.
"Wow, that story is very interesting, I like it."
Matt Damon shook his legs and tapped his knees with his fingers.
"Thank you. It's just that there are too many excellent independent films at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Alexander Rockwell's 'In the Soup', Anthony Drazan's 'Zebrahead', Quentin Tarantino's 'Reservoir Dogs', which caused my film not to win an award, but the film critics gave my film good reviews."
Link took a few sips of beer. He hadn't eaten since morning, and his wallet was cleaner than his face, so he could only temporarily fill his stomach with beer.
"Sounds very good. Has your movie found a distribution company? When will it be released? I will definitely go see it then."
Matt Damon asked.
No mistake, one first, one first, one inside, one tolerance, one is, one see, one see!
"Yes, some film merchants have contacted me to discuss the distribution of the film, but their offer is lower than my expectations. The distribution has not been finalized yet. After I return to Los Angeles, I will continue to negotiate with the film company. If everything goes well, it should be released next month."
Link said, covering his lips with the beer can opening.
"I wish you a big box office success."
"Thank you!"
Link clinked glasses with Matt Damon and casually asked where Matt Damon and the other guy came from, where they were going, and what their names were.
Matt Damon was indeed Matt Damon, and the cold guy next to him was Ben Affleck.
The two came from Cambridge, Massachusetts, on the East Coast, and were childhood friends who lived in the same block.
Matt Damon was admitted to Harvard University the year before last.
This year, he dropped out of school and came to Hollywood with Ben Affleck to develop and pursue their dreams in the entertainment industry.
Two days ago, when the two passed by Las Vegas, Nevada, Ben Affleck suggested gambling, and as a result, they lost everything.
Matt Damon pointed to Ben Affleck and said that he didn't just dislike talking, but he just lost all his money and was in a bad mood.
Link laughed and said that he had also been stolen just now, and suggested having a drink for their respective bad luck.
"Mr. Link, is this your backpack?"
The conductor who checked the tickets before came over, holding a gray-black backpack, which was the one Link had lost.
It's just that the outside of the backpack was covered with a lot of dust, as if it had been picked up from a garbage heap.
"God bless! This is mine, sir, thank you very much."
Link took it with surprise.
"You're welcome, this is our job. See if anything is missing? We can continue to search."
The conductor said.
Link flipped through it and nothing was missing. Instead, there was an extra note on which was writtenβDamn poor guy, a bag of garbage, why hold it so tight.
Link thanked the flight attendant, claiming that only a bag of potato chips, a ticket, and a walkman were lost.
The conductor felt sorry for him and asked him to leave his address, saying that he would mail it to him after finding it.
