Hollywood Director 1992

#206 - Cook again

The sixth film project was the script "Good Will Hunting," created by Matt Damon while he was in college.

The script was written in 1992, as an assignment for a drama class at Harvard University, titled "The Growing Story of Young Genius Will Hunting." Ben Affleck offered some suggestions, turning it into a formal film script.

After they came to Hollywood the year before last, they submitted the script everywhere like Link, and because the script was very good, it was quickly spotted by Patrick Whitesell, a producer at Castle Rock Entertainment, who bought the film rights for $150,000.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were willing to cooperate with Castle Rock Entertainment, but on one condition: they wanted to star in it and participate in the film's production, with a certain degree of decision-making power.

Castle Rock Entertainment was unwilling to use them, two new actors, as the leads, and they didn't want them, two greenhorns, to interfere with the film's production.

To make them give up this idea, people from Castle Rock Entertainment told them that there were problems with the script and asked them to take it back and revise it.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck revised it back and forth more than thirty times, but Castle Rock Entertainment was still not satisfied and asked them to continue revising.

Matt Damon and Ben inquired about what revision suggestions there were.

Castle Rock Entertainment did not give any revision suggestions, asking them to continue revising.

Matt Damon suspected that Castle Rock had not even looked at the script after receiving it.

To verify this, they deliberately added a plot point to the script where the male lead jacks off in the office.

After receiving the revised script, the production department at Castle Rock Entertainment still did not offer any suggestions.

Out of anger, Matt Damon and Ben gave up cooperating with Castle Rock Entertainment.

After filming "Seven," Matt Damon and Ben brought the script to him, hoping Guess Pictures could invest in the film.

After Link read the script, he asked them to delete the jack-off plot, and then he would consider investing.

Matt Damon and Ben immediately became happy, but then mentioned the matter of starring as the leads and participating in the film's production.

Link did not object and agreed to let Matt Damon be the male lead and Ben Affleck be the male supporting role, which could be considered compensation for not choosing Matt as the male lead in "Seven."

In addition, he would serve as the film's producer and work together to produce the film.

"Good Will Hunting" became Guess Pictures' sixth film project this year.

During this period, he also took the time to go to Chen Chong's house for a meal of Sichuan cuisine she made.

While eating, Chen Chong took the initiative to help him with special cooking.

Link was not an insensitive person and did not refuse her special service.

This woman was 33 years old, a bit older, but very understanding. No matter what dish he wanted to eat, she would try her best to satisfy him, showing him her best skills, fearing that he wouldn't be happy or satisfied enough.

It's just that Link's physical abilities had recently increased dramatically, with strength, speed, and endurance all improving by 20%, and his appetite had also increased.

When he was getting special cooking at Liu Xiaoli's house, he was relatively restrained and didn't open the fire too much.

He didn't need to worry too much at Chen Chong's place.

In the end, Chen Chong ate too much and almost had to go to the hospital.

Knock knock knock!

"Come in!"

The office door opened, and Sofia and Milla Jovovich walked in, carrying several shopping bags and radiating the aura of sunshine. They had just returned from shopping outside and stopped by Guess Pictures.

"Link, what are you doing?"

"Looking at some information. Did you guys just go shopping?"

"We're not like you, just knowing how to work all day long. It's too boring."

After Sofia came in, she handed the shopping bags to Milla Jovovich, then plopped down on the desk, picking up the ornaments on the table to play with.

"Nice legs."

Link looked at her thighs in hot pants and smiled.

Sofia lifted her thighs up a little, less than a foot away from him, "Yesterday you said you were going to adapt the story in 'Interstellar' into a movie. Which one are you going to adapt?"

"This one!"

Link flipped through the back bookshelf and took out a script with the title "The Man from Earth" written on it, which was adapted from that novel.

"The Man from Earth" tells the story of John Oldman, a 35-year-old Harvard history professor who resolutely chose to resign after working for ten years. Colleagues came to see him off and prepared to keep him, including several historians, Christian literalists, biologists, psychologists, etc.

During the chat, John Oldman suddenly told everyone that he was a caveman who had lived for 14,000 years.

Biologist Harry, archaeologist Art Jenkins, psychologist Dr. Will Gruber, and others did not believe it, thinking John Oldman was crazy; historian Sandy, Christian literalist Edith, and others believed John Oldman's words.

Thus, the two sides launched an academic debate, and in the end, they were all persuaded by John Oldman.

"You want to film this?"

Sofia had read this novel, "Why not film 'Interstellar,' 'The Martian,' or 'Gravity'? These three novels would be more exciting as movies."

"This project has a small investment and is relatively easy to film. Other projects require more special effects, which are more costly. Also, the current CGI technology is not mature enough, and the quality of the filmed movies cannot be guaranteed. I don't want to ruin these three IPs."

Link said.

"That makes sense. When will this movie be filmed?"

"I still have two big projects on hand and don't have time to film this. Are you interested in being the director of this film?"

No mistakes, first release, first content, first look!

Link said.

"Me?"

Sofia flipped through the script and looked at it, laughing, "Aren't you worried that I'll ruin this script?"

"I believe you can do well."

Sofia had filmed three movies with him, including "The Blair Witch Project," "Final Destination," and "Seven," and had worked as a staging director, with many shots in the three movies completed by her.

Now Sofia is also considered a relatively mature technician in directing movies.

She could try being a director.

In addition, the production cost of this film is relatively low.

Filming only requires a house with a fireplace, eight actors, no special effects, no dubbing, and not too many props.

The main content of the movie is the actors sitting in the house debating.

The production cost is about $20,000.

If it's filmed badly, just film it a few more times.

The reason why Link didn't direct it himself was that the content of this movie was too bland, the lines were relatively profound, and it was not easy to understand after watching it once. It was not suitable for screening in theaters, so there was no box office subsidy.

The original version was not screened in theaters either, but was produced as a videotape and distributed, earning more than $350 million worldwide.

"Link, thank you!"

Sofia excitedly hugged him and kissed him.

Milla Jovovich was drinking tea on the sofa, and when she saw the two of them being intimate on the desk, her cheeks turned red, and she walked to the door and closed it.

Before the two women came, Link had wanted to work overtime in the office.

It's just that Sofia said that she and Milla had bought several sets of sexy Victoria's Secret evening gowns while shopping and asked him if he wanted to see them.

Link accepted without ceremony and went back with the two of them, spending a colorful night.

When leaving Sofia's apartment, Link sat in the car, looking at the bustling world outside the window, thinking about Liu Xiaoli's warm chicken soup, Chen Chong's spicy hot pot, Sofia and Milla Jovovich's European and American flavors, and Monica and Jennifer's home-cooked meals.

I can't help but sigh that after achieving success, there are more and more temptations, and it becomes difficult to maintain the noble integrity of the past.

After a brief distraction, Link continued to work at the company and handle his work.
