Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#92 - May the world have peace

The Muggle Studies course is an elective at Hogwarts.

This course details various aspects of Muggles to the students.

For example, how to disguise oneself as a Muggle, the lifestyle habits of British Muggles, and so on.

It might sound ridiculous, like some online videos on 'How to Pretend to Be Human,' but considering that many wizards live their entire lives in a closed-off wizarding society, this teaching is actually necessary to avoid accidentally violating the International Statute of Secrecy.

Besides the above, this course also teaches Muggle common sense, such as 'What is electricity?', and studies famous historical contact events between Muggles and wizards.

For example, large-scale attacks on Muggles by dark creatures, the possible impacts of wizard-Muggle relationships, and so on.

On the surface, it seems like an easy course for a Muggle-born wizard to ace, but in reality, its value is not low.

You should know that Quirrell, the original Muggle Studies professor, had no connection with Voldemort when he switched his major to become the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher.

Under normal circumstances, a course like Defense Against the Dark Arts wouldn't be taught by just anyone; even the most superficial Lockhart, before his exposure, was seen as a distinguished figure who had received the Order of Merlin in the eyes of those unaware of the truth.

"Muggle Studies is alright, why are you asking about it?" Although Muggle Studies is a third-year elective, Roger, after gaining absolute memory, had already memorized all the Hogwarts teaching materials in the first half of his first year, so he had some understanding of the course.

Dumbledore tapped the book Roger brought this time, 'The Second Reality,' with his finger.

"Dimensional magic, the Second Reality, if the path you are taking truly succeeds, even with the most conservative estimate, wizarding and Muggle societies will achieve full contact within the next few decades."

"Before the International Statute of Secrecy, wizards roamed the upper classes of various countries, acting as court mages, national advisors, and the like. After the Statute was signed, wizards severed ties with Muggles and completely retreated into the shadows of the world, leaving only a few channels of communication."

"Now, in this era of great development in Muggle civilization, wizards need to make many preparations to step into the limelight again."

At this point, Dumbledore paused: "I can't reach everywhere else, but at least within Hogwarts, I hope the students can have some psychological preparation for this."

Then Dumbledore asked Roger the question he really wanted to ask: "I'm planning to adjust the overall teaching direction of Muggle Studies and turn it from an elective into a mandatory course. What do you think?"

As the originator of his thinking in this direction, and as a seer, Dumbledore felt that asking Roger this question was just right, and perhaps only Roger could give him the most informative answer.

"Adjust? What kind of adjustments are you planning to make?" Roger asked.

Hearing that it concerned the future studies of all Hogwarts students, and the future in general, and that the matter was caused by him, Roger took the question seriously.

"The original Muggle Studies course focused more on teaching wizards how to disguise themselves as Muggles to blend into the environment and studying everything about Muggles from a magical perspective."

"And some superficial studies of wizard-Muggle relations… After becoming a mandatory course, I plan to add more professional content."

"Not just teaching Muggle lifestyle habits, but also teaching the logic behind why Muggles have these habits. Not just studying the relationship between Muggles and wizards, but also studying how wizards should interact with Muggles."

In short, it is to inoculate the wizarding society against the great integration with Muggle society.

Roger thought about it. If he followed the trajectory that might occur in the future, teaching these things should be of great help to the students' future development, but…

"Will the Board of Governors agree to such a thing?" Roger and Dumbledore looked at each other.

As mentioned earlier, although Dumbledore is the headmaster, strictly speaking, Hogwarts is the property of the Board of Governors, and Dumbledore is just an 'executive officer.' Whether it's the addition of new teachers or such a profound curriculum reform.

Unless he uses his wand to reason with them, or a higher-level authority like the Ministry of Magic intervenes, it won't work without the approval of the Board of Governors.

Hogwarts' Board of Governors is composed of ancient pure-blood families and powerful wizards with considerable social status.

Would they accept it?

"Remember what I said before, about the public opinion storm that is now brewing."

Looking at Dumbledore's non-smiling gaze, Roger roughly guessed Dumbledore's plan.

"Quid pro quo?"

"Yes." Dumbledore had a wide range of knowledge, and he understood the meaning of those Eastern languages that Roger casually spoke.

Some high-level officials within the Ministry of Magic wanted to take advantage of the public opinion trend generated by the sudden accident of Grindelwald's raid on the Department of Mysteries, and then guide it to force the Ministry of Magic to carry out judicial reform.

To change some outdated things that are no longer suitable for the current era, as well as the interest representatives of certain pure-blood families within the Ministry of Magic who arbitrarily added regulations for their own selfish interests,

and to strengthen law enforcement efficiency.

Compared to Muggle society, the social development on the wizarding side is slower, and there will be a lack of motivation to reform.

The complex internal structure of the Ministry of Magic also means that normal changes will encounter many obstacles, and this opportunity is rare.

After noticing these things, Dumbledore secretly extended his helping hand to help the event proceed smoothly.

Although Dumbledore's help was the result of his personal considerations, the person in charge of the matter at the Ministry of Magic still had to remember his favor. If Dumbledore was willing to cash in the favor, then they would help put pressure on the Board of Governors.

Wizards are a smaller, flatter society, and the connections between people are closer, making this kind of pressure not difficult to exert.

"I see." After getting the answer, Roger fell into a long period of thought. He turned on the thought acceleration function of his second brain, calculating the possible future impact of the curriculum change.

Although the original fate was no longer possible to develop like that under Roger's meddling, it still had some reference value.

"My opinion is that it can be changed."

"If possible, it would be best to add some content on ideology, morality, and correct cognition."

Roger gave his own suggestion.

Then he explained the reason: "The Three-Dimensional Theory will inevitably make the wizards' strength swell even more. Before Muggles also widely master the Second Magic, the wizards' power is crushing."

"Originally, wizards already had some prejudice against Muggles. Once the expansion of power intensifies this opposing view,

it is likely to cause some serious consequences."

In Roger's eyes, there is actually no difference between Muggles and wizards. The only difference between wizards and Muggles is whether they can connect to magic. But once the Three-Dimensional Method spreads and the Second Magic becomes mainstream, the difference between the two will only become lower and lower.

But this thing cannot be done in one step, there will definitely be a difficult integration process in the middle, which is an unavoidable pain in the process of civilization's progress.

Even without Roger, without the Three-Dimensional Method, if humans want to integrate resources and move towards the starry sky, they will have to go through this step.

What Roger wants is to reduce the bloodshed in the middle and not leave too many historical scars for future development.

Although there is a saying that 'war is the ladder of technological progress'.

Human beings hating each other and constantly fighting may allow Roger to reap more technology.

But as mentioned before, Roger does not like the oppressive living environment full of despair and cries. He had enough of it in the Middle East.

Since I have been rained on by war, don't let the people living in peace also get rained on once.

Stirring up turmoil and causing wars behind the scenes for the sake of profit, wouldn't that make Roger no different from the politicians he hated so much in the Middle East?

"Professor Charity Burbage's 'equality' concept is good, but not good enough." Speaking of this, it is inevitable to mention the current professor of Muggle Studies.

Immediately afterwards, Roger explained his views on this issue.
