Hogwarts: Wizards of Eternity

#45 - Snape: I hate the Prophet

At this moment, Harry Potter couldn't help but recall Snape's dreadful, nightmare-inducing sarcasm from his very first Potions class.

As well as various other subtle, yet pointed, jabs.

He and my mother were good friends when they were at school?!

Harry's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

But looking at Roger's confident demeanor, and Snape's twisted expression after Roger's question, a thought flashed through Harry's mind.

…Could it be true?

For a moment, Harry's small mind was filled with big question marks.

“…Roger!” Unlike Harry's wide eyes of shock, Snape's pupils were filled with anger, like a dragon whose scales had been touched.

“Hmm?”

Seeing Snape grit his teeth and utter his name, even slowly drawing his wand, looking like he wanted to spar, Roger quickly waved his hands: “Don’t misunderstand, I didn’t come looking for trouble.”

As he spoke, Roger prepared for battle.

Just in case Snape acted impulsively.

“I just wanted to help Harry understand more about his family… You know his situation. Not just you, but Hogwarts should have many other faculty members who also have memories of Harry’s family, and I will visit them one by one later.”

“It’s just that you should be the person at the school who understands Harry’s mother the most, after all, you knew her before receiving your Hogwarts acceptance letter, so I came to visit you first.”

“I…”

“Silence!” Snape roared, interrupting Roger.

As the words fell, Snape slowly clenched the fabric of his wizarding robes over his chest with one hand.

The red color that had flushed his face from anger returned to pale, even a little ghastly.

Past memories buried deep in his heart resurfaced one by one with Roger's words, the dust was wiped away, and everything was as clear as yesterday, those bittersweet feelings, like a sharp knife coated with sweet poison, twisted in his chest.

Snape raised his wand.

Roger met his gaze calmly.

In the end, Snape's wand did not point at Roger, but instead pressed against his own temple.

With a flick of his wand, a strand of shimmering silver memory was drawn from Snape's heart.

“You detestable seer, close your prying eyes, take these memories, and leave my office! Immediately!” Snape, emanating a low pressure, slowly stepped forward, glaring down at Roger with sharp eyes.

The silvery-white memory fell into Roger's Pensieve.

Roger calmly flicked the surface of the Pensieve with his finger, then paused: “…Professor Snape, you even added a bit of resentment in there.”

“Is that not allowed?” Snape smirked, his face inches from Roger's.

“They can do it, but I can’t say it?”

What Roger came to him for was memories of Lily, but Snape gave him a buy-one-get-one-free deal, and also included his memories of Harry's father, James Potter.

Those were not friendly memories.

To this, Roger nodded: “Of course.”

But as he spoke, he reached into the Pensieve, which allowed people to ‘actually’ experience memories, with a virtual reality-like effect.

In the next moment, a subtle look of astonishment flashed across Snape's face.

He saw that Roger had actually taken his memory out of the Pensieve with his bare hands.

And like a silkworm spinning silk, he ‘edited’ out all the parts about James Potter.

This skill… Before Snape could react, these two strands of memory were thrown back into the Pensieve by Roger, one after the other.

Snape's originally increasingly gloomy gaze suddenly froze, he didn't understand the meaning of Roger's actions.

Roger wasn't a person who liked to keep people in suspense, he said directly: “Everyone is multifaceted and complex, with good sides and bad sides, I want Harry to understand the more real things, instead of a prettified, magnificent painting.”

“Of course, I will let Harry watch the controversial content last, and then he can make his own judgment on the rights and wrongs, I won’t interfere.”

Roger's deal with Harry was that Harry would become Roger's 'technical miner', and Roger would help him revive his family.

In this process, Roger hoped that there would be no deception, and he didn't want Harry to find out that something was 'not as advertised' after he really revived his parents.

Moreover, if Harry's progress reached halfway, and he saw something that shook his heart during the time-space journey, and began to doubt whether everything was correct, it would be even more troublesome.

It would be better to eliminate all the hidden dangers from the beginning, and then decide whether to embark on the journey.

This was Roger's true intention in bringing Harry to Snape.

Even if Snape didn't give him memories about James Potter, Roger would eventually go to him to ask for them.

Roger and Snape met each other's eyes again.

Roger's gaze was still calm and open, while the gloom and hostility in Snape's eyes slowly faded.

Staring at Roger's eyes, Snape understood somewhat why Dumbledore's attitude was different, even though some of Roger's characteristics were so similar to 'that person' in the past.

He and 'that person' had a decisive difference in some places.

You can be wary of Roger, even hostile to him, but you never need to suspect him.

“Hmph, when you leave, close the door tightly.” Although he understood that Roger wasn't deliberately looking for trouble, he still didn't like this seer who had no sense of boundaries.

Tsk, detestable seer.

“So… Snape really was good friends with my mother?” It wasn't until he and Roger came out of the Head of Slytherin's office that Harry completely recovered.

There was no way around it, this had been too shocking.

That was Snape!

In the eyes of Gryffindor wizards, especially Harry, who was targeted the most, his image was almost equivalent to the Dark Lord.

“Their relationship is more complicated, you will know for yourself after watching the memories.” Roger had no interest in hiding anything, the things inside were really complicated, if he were to explain, then James Potter and Sirius Black, as well as other messy things, would all have to be retold.

It was too exhausting.

“Then why is he so mean to me?” Harry lowered his head, his mind was a mess, within a dozen minutes, the world he was familiar with had become another unfamiliar one.

“It also has to do with your parents… Actually, don't think that Snape looks down on you everywhere, but in fact, he is one of the few people in the world who is willing to risk life and death, and risk everything to protect you.”

Roger turned his head and looked at Harry, whose face was once again filled with an expression of 'being shocked for a whole year', and said: “It's true, don't forget, I'm a seer who can see the future.”

“Want to see? A corner of the future.”
