Hogwarts: I am the White Demon King
#287 - Chapter 287 Ask the whole world to be a witness
Hearing Sebastian's warning, Snape didn't doubt it. He silently straightened up and drew his wand, concealing it beneath his black robes, ready to act at any moment.
At the same time, he quickly scanned everything in the arena and soon noticed some disharmonious elements.
At each exit, there were small groups of Ilvermorny students, seemingly chatting and laughing as they watched the competition.
But upon closer inspection, one could see that their smiles were somewhat stiff, and some individuals' arms were even trembling slightly.
Indeed, something was amiss!
To prevent them from noticing his observation, Snape quickly retracted his gaze, heightening his vigilance to the maximum.
The atmosphere in the arena was lively, filled with shouts of encouragement for the competitors.
However, in Sebastian's magical perception, at least a third of the audience's emotions were off.
Most of these spectators were Ilvermorny students, but there were also quite a few who appeared older, like Ilvermorny alumni.
The emotions they emanated were not excitement but tension and malice.
If only a few individuals were generating malice towards other competitors out of concern for their own, it would be understandable, but so many spectators feeling this way was abnormal.
Under Sebastian's careful observation, these people cheered along with the ordinary spectators, but they would occasionally glance towards the platform.
No matter how one looked at it, their attention was not on the competition before them.
On the platform, besides several judges and Ilvermorny's Headmaster Agilbert, was an official from the Magical Congress.
Searching his memory, Sebastian realized that this person was Barton Greggs, the current Head of Magical Security and Director of Magical Law Enforcement.
He was a very influential figure in the Magical Congress, appearing here today as a special guest.
Could it be that those people's malice was directed at Barton Greggs?
Right, does William know any inside information?
Thinking of his old friend, Sebastian looked over and saw that he was smiling at the Ilvermorny contestants like a simpleton. This immediately extinguished Sebastian's idea of asking him.
With too few clues, Sebastian didn't delve deeper. Instead, he continued to watch the competition, preparing to adapt to whatever might happen.
Until the competition was about to end, there was no disturbance in the arena.
Seeing the Hogwarts students complete the competition and return to his side, Sebastian finally relaxed completely.
Although he didn't know what these Ilvermorny students were planning, it seemed that there shouldn't be any major problems now.
After all, these people were quite disciplined, not even disrupting the competition.
Besides, they're just a bunch of students. They shouldn't be any extremely vicious villains.
The ninety minutes of competition time passed in a flash, and the contestants who hadn't finished brewing their potions were destined to miss out on advancing.
The instant the competition's end bell rang, before the referee could even announce the end of the match, a figure on a flying broom shot like lightning from the sky towards the center of the arena.
The surrounding wizards exclaimed in an uproar, whispering to each other, clearly startled by this sudden situation.
Barton Greggs of the Ministry of Magic also frowned and stood up, his eyes locked on the person in the air.
It was a very young wizard, looking to be about the same age as Percy.
He stopped his broom in the center of the arena, then leaped down, standing firmly on the ground, his eyes fixed on Barton Greggs.
"Mr. Greggs, on behalf of all Muggle-born young wizards, I request the complete abolition of Rappaport's Law."
As soon as he finished speaking, the entire stadium became so silent that a pin could be heard dropping.
Then, low murmurs erupted around them, and many wizards showed expressions of astonishment and unease.
"Isn't that Edward, the seventh-year student council president? What is he doing?"
"He's making such a scene in front of so many magical school representatives. Has he gone mad?"
The surrounding spectators whispered uneasily, some with anger, and others seemingly pondering something.
The judges on the platform looked at each other, exchanging glances, seemingly completely unprepared for such a dramatic scene in this competition.
Ilvermorny's Headmaster glanced at Greggs and then anxiously waved at the young wizard: "Edward, what are you doing? Come back now!"
The student named Edward remained unmoved, only staring intently at Greggs, waiting for his reply.
His eyes were unwavering, as if he had already made up his mind to publicly fight for the rightful benefits of those Muggle-born young wizards.
"Edward," Greggs said, frowning deeply, "Rappaport's Law was officially abolished as early as 1965."
"Sir, you should be well aware that that was just an abolition on paper."
Edward's voice, neither humble nor arrogant, spread throughout the venue: "In fact, many articles of that law are still in effect today."
"That has nothing to do with today's competition," Greggs said sternly, suppressing his anger. "Why don't we talk privately and return the stage to the Potions Championship."
"There are so many international guests here. We can't waste their precious time and make them think that we Ilvermorny can't even hold a Potions Championship properly."
"What do you think, Edward?"
Hearing Greggs' words, Edward slowly and firmly shook his head.
"No! I just want to ask these dignitaries and all the reporters to bear witness."
"Without their witness, I'm afraid this matter will end without a result, just like so many letters I've sent to the Magical Congress over the years."
Edward's voice gradually became impassioned.
"Because of Rappaport's Law, we are completely separated from Muggle society. We are forbidden from befriending Muggles and forbidden from marrying Muggles."
"Even, if a young wizard appears among Muggles, the Magical Congress will send Aurors to forcibly take the young wizards away from their Muggle relatives and then modify their relatives' memories."
"Because of Rappaport's Law, I still cannot reunite with my Muggle mother."
"Because of Rappaport's Law, many of our compatriots cannot recognize their Muggle relatives and friends."
"I want to ask you, is this practice of ignoring our family ties really appropriate?!"
"Today, in front of the whole world, I would like to ask the Magical Congress to completely abolish Rappaport's Law!"
As soon as he finished speaking, students stood up one by one from the audience, waving their wands and changing their clothes into uniform attire.
Then, they shouted a unified slogan at Greggs.
"Completely abolish Rappaport's Law!"
