Hogwarts: Harley from The Witch Way
Analysis of a bug in the original book
Looking at the comment section yesterday, some people said that Professor Lupine was tired because he had just turned into a werewolf.
As a result, I thought about it and suddenly found a problem.
On September 1, 1993, the lunar calendar is July 15th. On that day, Professor Lupine should have turned into a werewolf. Why can he take the Hogwarts Express train and attend the opening dinner?
Some people may say that he turned into a werewolf when the moon came out that night.
But I checked and found that December 25, 1993 was on November 13 in the lunar calendar. At that time, Professor Lu Ping was already ill and could not attend the Christmas banquet.
Moreover, it was mentioned many times in the book that Professor Lupine asked Professor Snape to substitute for him for several days each time.
This shows that before the 15th day of the lunar calendar, there should have been certain signs that Professor Lu Ping must rest.
The wolfbane potion can only keep the werewolf rational, but cannot restore the werewolf to its human form.
According to the above part of the information, the werewolf transformation may continue for a while, at least there are signs in the early stage, making it impossible to appear in front of the public.
But the author calculated another time.
According to the original book, the penultimate exam was the Defense Against the Dark Arts exam, which was proctored by Professor Lupine himself, and that day was Thursday.
After finishing the divination class that afternoon, the final exam was over, and Professor Lupine turned into a werewolf at night.
I checked the calendar and figured that date would be June 23, 1994, which happens to be May 15 of the lunar calendar.
After all, there are no full moons on other Thursdays in June, and they are far away from around the 15th.
That is to say, judging from this information, only the night of the full moon (the 15th day of the lunar calendar) will turn into a werewolf, which is contradictory to the saying that people are already sick on Christmas Day (13th day of the lunar calendar).
And I checked, and it gets dark at about 8 o'clock at the end of June in the UK.
Buckbeak was executed at sunset, plus a series of things that happened later, so I guess that the time when Professor Lupine turned into a werewolf was around nine o'clock in the evening.
If it is calculated in this way, it seems that it can be matched with what happened at the school opening dinner.
After finishing the dinner at nine o'clock, Professor Lupine rushed to the office and turned into a werewolf. He didn't dare to eat sweet chocolate on the train in case the wolf's poison potion failed.
So the author is a bit confused about the specific situation of this werewolf.
As for why Professor Lupine was able to take the train, I just assumed that this time he didn't transform, he was just tired from other things.
The above is purely the author's personal guess, put it in the testimonials, if there is any problem, I hope everyone can point it out.
