Harry Potter Morning Light

Chapter 3382 The Tide of the Earthly World (Seventeen)

There is a chapel in the Church of San Lorenzo in Florence, which is the tomb of the Medici family. However, only Lorenzo Medici and Giuliano Medici are buried there. Michelangelo designed the tomb for the two brothers. Each of the two brothers has a group of sculptures, one male and one female, representing day and night, morning and evening.

The dome of this chapel imitates the Pantheon. The difference is that the interior of the Pantheon is still circular, while the tomb of the Lorenzo brothers is square, resulting in the junction of the dome and the ground base. There is a "sail buttress" similar to St. Mark's Basilica.

This is not a feature of Byzantine architecture, but all buildings with this structure will have arc triangles.

There is also a chapel in the Milan Cathedral. Originally in the early Middle Ages, there were two cathedrals in the city center of Milan, namely Santa Teresa Church and Santa Maria Church, which each had its own bell tower and chapel.

In 1353, the bell tower of Santa Maria collapsed, damaging the facade of Santa Maria Cathedral, so the Archbishop of Milan proposed to build a more magnificent cathedral.

This was exactly what Visconti, the Duke of Milan at the time, wanted. Legend has it that he had a dream in which the devil asked him to build a cathedral in the name of the devil and showed him all kinds of horrors and monsters in hell, in order to redeem his soul and make himself feel calm. At the same time, in order to show his strength, Visconti moved from outside and replaced the Della Torre family as the lord of Milan, so he funded the archbishop's proposal.

During the construction process, the original Santa Teresa Church, chapel and bell tower were demolished, and the materials were used to build the Milan Cathedral. The original location of Santa Teresa Church became the large square in front of the Milan Cathedral.

The bell tower of Santa Maria Church was not rebuilt after it collapsed, and the chapel was originally planned to be demolished. After all, a corner of the current location of the Milan Royal Palace was demolished for the construction of the cathedral. But the chapel on the east side of the cathedral has been preserved. It is a very ordinary octagonal building. When Georgiana came, there were many works of painters on display inside.

"Why is this painting called "Morning and Dusk"?" Georgiana stood in front of a landscape painting. It was not even a natural scenery, but a monastery. There was no relationship between morning and dusk.

"Because it changes with the light, madam." Countess Fagnari said, "This was painted by a set designer of the opera house."

Countess Fagnari was a brown-skinned beauty who reminded Georgiana of Breszabini's mother.

The poet who fell in love with her was a loyal supporter of Napoleon and wrote many odes for him.

They were the same age and looked very compatible. They were both handsome men and beautiful women. On the contrary, Count Fagnari was nearly 20 years older than the Countess. The Countess's parents liked to travel and owed a lot of gambling debts. The Count paid off their debts in exchange for their youngest daughter marrying him.

"Let me show you." Foscolo said, picking up the painting, which was actually placed in a black box.

Then he moved the painting to the best light in the chapel. As Foscolo adjusted the angle, the light and dark of the painting actually changed, just like reality, and a person holding a torch appeared in the originally dark corridor, illuminating the entire corridor.

"Wow." Georgiana couldn't help but exclaimed, "Who is this painter?"

"Louis Daguerre, I heard that you are very interested in panoramic paintings?" Countess Fagnari asked.

"Does everyone know now?" Georgiana asked with a smile.

"I think you might want to meet him." Countess Fagnari said with a smile.

Georgiana was persuaded by Countess Fagnari.

"Georgina, come and see!" Catherine, the wife of the Dutch ambassador, waved to Georgiana, "Look at this painting, it was painted by Honey."

"Bring him to the party." Georgiana said.

"Why don't you go to La Scala? He's a set designer, and there are many of his works inside." Countess Fagnari said before Georgiana was about to leave.

She looked at the countess.

"Fortunately, they are not damaged. We just need to replace the glass and La Scala can reopen." Foscolo said hurriedly.

"Come on!" Katharina shouted.

"Excuse me," Georgiana said, and walked to Katharina's side.

"This is painted on silk." Katharina said, "This is the first time I have seen such a material used as a canvas."

The painting Katharina saw was a painting of Milan Cathedral, which was more in line with the theme of "morning and dusk", with golden sunlight shining on the snow-white cathedral.

"It's sweet, isn't it?"

An old man came over and said beside them.

Judging from the portrait that Rollebon showed Georgiana, this should be Count Lambotenghi, who had just inspected the Simplon, and he was also a member of the Ministry of Finance appointed by Napoleon.

"I didn't expect so many people to come today, Congressman." Georgiana whispered.

"That's because everyone here today is donating money. Walk with me." Count Lambotenghi said to Georgiana, "walking" slowly in the chapel.

"There is a big difference between the poor law and church law in the UK. Have you heard of the "Formula Law"? " Count Lambotenghi asked.

Georgiana thought for a while and said, "Is it the "Gregorian Law"?

"That's true. The Pope once discussed whether clergy should own private property, but I'm not discussing this with you now." Count Lambotengji said, "The poor are different from the pitiful. Canon jurists also believe that those who are able-bodied and capable of working would rather beg for a living and will be considered unworthy of relief. In fact, there are some hospices that will let the beggars they receive go out to do weeding and other work. Your proposal is not so difficult to accept."

But she remembered Magenta's excited reaction in the morning. He didn't seem to accept it.

"But someone told me that orphans..."

"Oh, that's another matter." Count Lambotengji immediately said, "Poverty can be voluntary or involuntary. Many clergy are willing to donate their private wealth, but I'm discussing involuntary poverty with you. Please forgive me for making such an analogy. If England didn't engage in the enclosure movement, I don't think there would be so many healthy refugees. The Church of God, as a beloved mother, must provide those in need with not only physical support, but also assistance in matters related to the benefit of the soul, especially in critical situations. Food should be public. Do you agree with what I said?"

Georgina remembered a lot.

"I agree." She whispered.

"Napoleon led a pitiful army, they were like a group of beggars." Count Lambotenghi said bluntly, "We cannot be different in hospitality, but as the medieval proverb 'hold on to your alms until you find the righteous to give to', beggars must be judged, unless they are upright people who can do noble things. In addition to whether they have the ability to work, we also have to distinguish between upright and dishonest. There are real lazy people among the healthy unemployed vagrants, and there are also people who are in desperate need of a job but return in vain... Why don't you choose the gesture of prayer to enter the church?"

At first she thought the gesture of clasping her hands was too ordinary.

"Do you feel pitiful?" Count Lambotenghi asked.

How should she answer at this time?

"I heard that you are here to play. Does Milan make you unhappy?" Count Lambotenghi asked.

So he thought she should smile at this time?

Georgiana really wanted to ask this question, but she didn't force herself to smile, even out of politeness. "Those who give alms should give alms to themselves first, as St. Augustine and Gregory IX said." Count Lambotengi sighed, "Some parishes do not use the collected funds to help the poor, so everyone comes."

"But I..." she said in panic.

"Don't panic." Count Lambotengi smiled and said, "You are not alone, don't you see that so many people came today?"
