Harry Potter and the Candy Factory
#41 - the difference
Soon, Lucius returned home. Draco also stopped waving his wand and returned to the manor with Charlie, bringing the warmth he had gathered from the garden.
Perhaps knowing that she wasn't good at making dishes that required cooking, Narcissa wisely chose foods like salads and biscuits for lunch.
Regardless of how others felt, for Charlie, this meal was probably the best he had eaten in the two days since arriving at Malfoy Manor.
Just as Charlie was engrossed in eating, Lucius, who was sitting not far away, suddenly spoke.
He picked up the napkin placed beside him, wiped the crumbs from the corner of his lips, and said,
"Just before coming back..."
Everyone heard Lucius's voice and looked up at him.
Charlie was no exception. After swallowing the salad in his mouth, he also looked at Lucius, wanting to hear what he had to say.
"The Deputy Minister of Magic, Madam Umbridge, contacted me about something."
"Umbridge..."
Narcissa frowned, clearly recognizing that person, and her expression revealed her opinion of her.
"What did she want from you?" Narcissa continued to ask.
"She said that Minister Fudge hopes to have the opportunity to attend Draco's upcoming... graduation banquet."
As he spoke, Lucius's eyes intentionally or unintentionally looked at Charlie, as if trying to see something from his expression.
As soon as these words came out, everyone fell into a brief silence.
The Minister of Magic... attending a child's graduation banquet?
Instantly, an extremely strong sense of contrast and absurdity emerged from within.
Even Charlie couldn't help but stiffen his face upon hearing this news...
That old fatty is really ubiquitous... he couldn't help but mutter in his heart.
He really couldn't imagine how much Cornelius Fudge wanted him, that after being rejected repeatedly, he could still lower himself to request to attend the graduation banquet of an eleven-year-old boy he didn't even know...
It had to be said, Charlie was a little touched...
At the dining table, just as Charlie's brain was frantically engaged in mental activity, Draco was the first to react.
With a "thump," Draco jumped up from his seat, knocking the chair behind him directly onto the carpet.
But at this moment, he couldn't care less about these things.
"The Minister of Magic wants to attend my graduation banquet!!!!!!!????"
He widened his eyes and stared straight at his father.
Immediately, an uncontrollable ecstasy surged from his heart, as if to fill his entire body.
"I'm full!!"
Then, Draco quickly picked up the stool under him, and then grabbed two biscuits, hurriedly running upstairs with a "thump, thump, thump".
"Draco! You better restrain yourself!"
Lucius frowned and reprimanded Draco's back.
"Sorry, Father!"
However, this time, the unfailing reprimand suddenly lost its effect.
Along with Draco's habitual apology, the door to his room was slammed shut with a "thump".
"........"
"..."
"Wow..."
At the table with only three people left, Charlie raised his eyebrows, breaking the somewhat awkward silence as he watched his nephew disappear without a trace.
"I guess... Little Draco is definitely trying on clothes again."
Narcissa's frown did not ease, she turned her head and looked at Charlie.
Although she was proud, she was not stupid. Narcissa naturally knew that even if she and Lucius were both pure-blood families of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, it was impossible to have the leader of the entire British wizarding world, the powerful Minister of Magic, specially attend their son's graduation banquet.
And the only possibility was...
"Charlie..."
Narcissa opened her mouth, as if wanting to say something.
But Charlie interrupted her with a wave of his hand.
At this moment, Charlie's expression had returned to its original state, he lowered his head, while using a fork to finish the remaining salad, he said,
"Don't worry, there's no problem."
Wiping the salad dressing from the corner of his mouth, he continued,
"After all, if Fudge really attends Draco's graduation banquet, it will be beneficial to both Draco and Lucius..."
As soon as these words came out, Narcissa and Lucius were both silent again.
"And..." Charlie said again.
"That guy Fudge is like a tagalong, chasing after me for so long, it's just a good opportunity to talk to him, which saves a troublesome matter."
Hearing this, Lucius couldn't help but take a deep breath, and his eyelids trembled.
Tagalong... In the British wizarding world, Charlie Black was probably the only one who dared to describe Fudge so lightly and openly in front of others.
..................
The Ministry of Magic's lunch break was not long. After finishing lunch, Lucius went back to work.
And Charlie, after simply helping Narcissa clean up the dishes with a cleaning spell, went up to the second floor along the stairs and walked to Draco's room.
"Knock knock knock"
He bent his knuckles and gently knocked on Draco's door.
Soon, Draco's voice came from behind the door.
"Please... wait a moment!"
His voice sounded a little embarrassed, followed by the sound of tidying things and hurried footsteps.
It probably took a minute or two before the door was opened.
Draco grabbed the doorknob and carefully opened the door from the inside.
Fresh hair gel...
And he also sprayed a light men's perfume... How could he have this stuff?
Charlie raised his eyebrows, but did not expose it.
As for Draco, seeing that it was his uncle, the smile that had not faded for long reappeared on his face.
"I thought it was my father..."
As he spoke, he opened the door to let Charlie in, and breathed a sigh of relief.
Charlie walked in, casually looking up and down a few times.
The room was very clean, without the messiness of other children of the same age. On the contrary, the taste and aesthetic style of the Malfoy family could be easily seen in the furniture and supplies.
But some vitality different from adults could be seen from it.
For example, the spotless flying broom placed in the corner, as well as some gadgets on the desk, and the posters hanging on the wall about a certain Quidditch star...
Draco closed the door, and Charlie sat back down on the stool in front of the desk.
Suddenly, Charlie happened to think of those words Narcissa had said to him not long ago.
Almost subconsciously, he looked at his nephew not far away and asked,
"Draco... In your opinion, what is the difference between pure-blood wizards and Muggle-born wizards?"
