Harry Potter and the Candy Factory
#35 - A piece of clothing
You should know that Dobby wasn't aware of restraining his surprisingly loud tone, coupled with his shrill voice.
Almost instantly, it spread to every corner of the house.
Harry's heart couldn't help but clench, and disregarding everything else, he hurriedly rushed forward, freeing one hand from the cleaning tools, and clamped it over Dobby's mouth, then slammed the door shut with a "bang."
"...This, damn little bastard."
Dursley finally couldn't bear it any longer; whether it was the piercing shout or the sound of the door slamming, they were like iron hammers, heavily pounding on his already unhealthy heart.
He suddenly opened his eyes and, propping himself up on his arms, sat up in bed.
Immediately afterward, he was ready to rely on a surge of anger to give Harry Potter a well-deserved lesson, just like in the past!
However, just as he was about to go, Petunia, who was sleeping beside him, grabbed his arm.
At this moment, she also opened her eyes, looking at her furious husband with worry in her eyes.
"Calm down, don't forget that little bastard, he…"
"Don't worry!"
However, Dursley, still in a fit of anger, didn't heed his wife's reminder.
He heavily snorted a breath of stale air from his nose, pulled his arm from her hand, and, without turning his head, said as he walked towards the door:
"I don't believe it! That little brat can be so lucky every time!!"
After speaking, he pushed open the door and walked straight towards Harry's room.
"Damn it!! You little rascal, what are you doing!! Don't you dare think that there's no one in this house who can control you!! I'm telling you…"
As he spoke, he noisily twisted open Harry's door and pushed it open.
However, after the door opened, Dursley, who had been preparing to lift his foot and step inside to give that little bastard a good beating, froze on the spot.
Even the words he had been about to say were stuck in his throat, and he only unconsciously made "uh, uh, uh" sounds.
In the room, Harry and Dobby both looked towards the opened door.
In an instant, his face turned from flushed red to pale white.
"Hiss!!!!!"
He took a sharp breath into his lungs, not daring to hesitate in the slightest.
With a "bang!" the door that had just been opened was slammed shut again.
Dursley, dragging his heavy body, began a frantic run down the fragile corridor, running all the way back to his room in one breath.
Closing the door tightly, he didn't seem to have recovered from the scene he had just witnessed, his eyes wide, using his body to hold the door shut.
Then, he frantically gasped for breath.
How arrogant he was when he left; how embarrassed he was upon his return.
"What happened? Dear!?"
Petunia also sat up, her brows furrowed into a knot, looking at Dursley, who seemed frightened, and quickly asked.
"He…"
Dursley opened his mouth, his voice trembling and unrecognizable.
"That guy… he's already started trying to summon demons in his room!!!!!"
"What!?!?!"
Petunia screamed and jumped out of bed, looking at him in shock.
"It's true…"
Dursley swallowed and nodded desperately, then continued:
"I saw it, I saw it…"
"What did you see!?"
"I saw him in the room! Using a terrifying ritual like in the movies, summoning a hellish imp!!!!!!!"
"Plop."
Petunia rolled her eyes again and fainted on the ground.
… … … … … … … … … … …
In the room, Harry and Dobby exchanged a glance and couldn't help but smile at each other.
"So… is this also part of Mr. Charlie's plan?"
Little Harry smiled especially happily, and he hugged this strange-looking creature, not feeling scared at all, but rather somewhat affectionate.
"What?"
Dobby was taken aback for a moment, then seemed to understand something and quickly nodded, sincerely saying:
"Of course! Of course! All of this is Mr. Charlie's idea, he asked me to specifically bring you a gift!"
As he spoke, he took out the exquisite gift box from his pillowcase.
Unfortunately, due to the not-so-smooth journey, the gift box was somewhat deformed by Dobby's pressure during the bumpy ride, looking wrinkled and no longer as exquisite as it was when it first arrived in Dobby's hands.
Dobby looked at the battered gift box, and his large ears drooped somewhat dejectedly.
"Oh, dear… Dobby is such a bad elf."
"It's okay!"
But Harry obviously didn't consider so much; he had a smile of surprise, and his little face looked flushed because of excitement.
He didn't care how the gift box became; what was important was that this was the first official gift he had received!! And it was given to him by Mr. Charlie Black!
He quickly took the gift box from Dobby's hands and hugged it excitedly in his arms.
He could feel that the box was heavy.
Looking at the excited Harry, Dobby, who had originally felt guilty, felt much better.
"Mr. Charlie said that he couldn't come over to celebrate your birthday because he had some things to do… so he gave you this, and wished you a happy birthday in advance!"
"Thank you!!! I'm so happy!"
Harry nodded frantically as he listened to Dobby's words, as if Charlie was right in front of him, saying it to him personally.
"Oh! And Dobby…"
Dobby thought of something… his originally drooping ears perked up again.
Then, he hurriedly rummaged another wrinkled gift from the pillowcase.
But compared to the gift carefully prepared by Charlie, the packaging of this one obviously looked like it had just been made.
Using newspaper that he didn't know where he had found, he wrapped the original object tightly, and then, imitating Charlie's gift, he found a thin rope and tied it tightly, and sent it to Harry's hands.
"Thank you! Dobby! We only just met!"
But even so, Harry was still exceptionally happy, solemnly holding Dobby's gift in both hands, his eyes shining as if they contained stars.
Holding the two gifts, at this moment, he seemed to possess the whole world.
"Can I open the gifts?!"
Suddenly, Harry raised his head again, looked at Dobby, and asked excitedly:
"Of course!"
Dobby nodded quickly, then said:
"You can open Dobby's first! Dobby has prepared for you what Dobby wants most!"
"The thing I want most?"
Listening to Dobby's words, Harry, with a hint of curiosity, began to tear open the newspaper wrapped around the gift.
Under the layers of newspaper was a piece of clothing that hadn't had its price tag removed—a piece of clothing that was ordinary to the point of being utterly unremarkable.
